  • The 72-hour total shutdown imposed by the Sadar Hils unit of the Committee on Tribal Unity from July 16 at midnight culminated amid continuous firing on day 3.
Reports of firing started pouring in from around 5:30 pm on July 18 and continued all day on Wednesday with no confirmed reports on the number of casualties. Firing and explosions were reportedly heard all day in the peripheral areas of the district.
Meanwhile, within the district, the third day of the bandh witnessed all business establishments, educational institutions, Govt. offices and banks being closed. All kinds of vehicles, except for those in medical services, are kept off the road. Volunteers, mainly the womenfolk, were also seen monitoring vehicular movement along the highway
Speaking to EastMojo, members of CoTU said that the 72-hour total shutdown will be followed by various democratic agitations such as sit-in-protest in the district.
The CoTU's also urged the central government to expedite the Kuki-Zo political talks with the UPF and KNO and bring immediate solutions to the ongoing violence in Manipur.
