  • (1-8-20) This is a very rare and awesome O&K moving walkway! I've seen these go between two floors many times, but this one goes up THREE floors! There's also a short spot towards the top where the incline gets smaller. For those who are wondering, O&K stands for Orenstein & Koppel.

Not only is this the only O&K moving walkway in the States, also the only moving walkway with that "wave" shape in North America! Amazing find!

Even rare than their escalators. I've never rode an O&K moving walkways before, only their escalators.
Reminds me of the ones in Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand which are KONE.

Interesting setup for an inclined walkway (or "rampalator"), especially for such extremely rare brand.
The flat area near the end of the walkway if pretty weird too & the "steps" seems to have the same width like the ones used in an escalator.

I've seen similar designs at Disney World before on rides. But the wave on this one, wow that's amazing!

We have some O&K escalators here in the Houston area. Primarily at 1 or 2 Dillard’s stores. Would love to find an O&K elevator here in the states but have not yet that I know of.
Did you know they started as a German producer of train locomotives

There are no O&K elevators in North America.

O&K never made elevators, just escalators and moving walkways until they got acquired by KONE. However, O&K had some sort of a collaboration with a now defunct British elevator company Keighley Lifts in England back in the 1970s, in which both companies made elevators under the O&K Keighley brand in England. Not sure when this partnership ended, but Keighley Lifts was eventually sold to Schindler in the 1980s.

There are still a few O&K locomotives here in Indonesia, which are all in Java. As for the escalators, we have three which are all found in Surabaya. There used to be five in the country but one was destroyed by a fire and another one was replaced into OTIS.

@@idl3k_elev Thanks for clearing that up, cause I saw some videos of "O&K elevators" in the UK.

That’s actually a travelator. Moving walks are COMPLETELY flat, stairs and angle. Travelators are moving walks at an angle.

Travelator is pretty much just another term for any type of moving walk... in common terms this is an inclined moving walk.

Very interesting. All the escalators on the bart system in SF were originally installed by O&K.

STL Elevators BART is slowly going through a system wide escalator replacement project. So most are original right now, but will be replaced in the future.
