To be honest, I'm a 16 year old kid from Scotland and seeing him perform recently here with my dad was FUCKING. BRILLIANT... my dad was a punk himself, he mixed around back then, he wore the swastikas, he did his hair, he got into the trouble we hear on documentaries. He found half of the shit he did stupid, but regardless it's hilarious to me, i wouldn't do this stuff myself because i'm here for the music... there's nothing going on that pisses me off to dress how i feel about it, say what i think, and what i think is right. But Johnny Rotten will always be someone i idolise for being honest, and telling it how it is, and say what's on your mind because honesty is better than lies... I'm still an occasional liar but i try my best 😂

I especially loved John’s words to his mum at the end. Mine passed away in 2013 literally minutes after we (my 2 daughters and me) left the hospital thinking she’d done a complete turnabout after caring for her (she had crippling dementia) for over 2 years in addition to my eldest who has physical, mental and complex medical disabilities since my wife passed away from a stroke when they were babies. I guess what I’m trying to to say is this : I didn’t grow up in a British council flat in Finsbury Park or lost all my memory to spinal meningitis ... I grew up up in a nice middle class family in Australia that was nevertheless fractured by communication breakdown (my parents) and delinquency (me and my mates) that almost saw me sent to a ‘home’, molestation by the court appointed “social worker” (not quite Jimmy Saville but if he’d been given the time and opportunity who knows ...” Anyway, flawed as I am ... I love and cherish my kids and my real friends. Peace, Out and hopefully I’ll see see you both soon Mum and Dad.

The one thing that's always irritated me about Lydon is his utter dismissal and destruction of any other act that isn't to HIS taste.
His opinion of Status Quo is meaningless to the millions of people, including me, who loved them.
    Same thing for the Ramones.
Being 58 now, I'm of the punk generation, listen to Lydon these days and he's become everything he despised in the 70's, a middle aged rock dinosaur banging on about the old days.
Having said all that, the Pistols were an awesome rock n roll band and NMTB is a genuine classic album and should be remembered as such.

John has been manipulating the press a bit recently regarding the 'Pistol' mini series and has shown a little bit of disrespect towards his ex band mates, that doesn't bode too well with me but that aside he was and always will be the voice of a generation.

    • @SynthJohn
      @SynthJohn  Před 2 lety +1

I love John, Steve, Paul, and Glen, and it's a shame that this mini series has fragmented the band, perhaps, forever.
To be honest, Steve has never really liked John, and there are times over the years, they have slung mud at each other , so I don't think the venom always lies with Lydon, although, Jonesy has mellowed a lot, and, I am happy for him that he's still doing Jonesy Jukebox by podcast now. John is John, despite his faults.
The venom between each other frustrates me as a fan, because I really want to them get on, and they are not getting any younger. Time is so short, and it doesn't wait for anyone.
The mini series looks like a pile of shite to me, made by an corporation, I have no time for, and for me, there is no film or documentary that has done Sex Pistols justice apart from The Filth And The Fury, and Huddersfield Christmas 1977.
And yes, I agree he is the voice of a generation.

@@SynthJohn You are correct John and Steve never got on, from Lydons audition to Winterland and even through the reunions there was always friction, travelling separately, different hotels etc.
The Pistol series I did watch and the six episodes centred around Steve Jones so I wouldn't class it as a sex pistols biopic, there were a few accuracies in it but there was also a fair bit of fiction which was only to be expected for something 'based' on someones memoirs and the fact it was over 45 years ago peoples memories are a bit hazy.....including mine.

He was the voice of my generation, and I have told him that face to face in the mid 90’s but he isn’t anymore. I am happy he is taking care of his wife! And I am sorry about Ari-up. He has had tons of grief and sadness in his life lately. I think he should have been involved in the pistol series, and he was asked. Maybe he was to busy, but he said he never know about it, and that is just not the truth.

Lydon has always been outspoken when comes to the dismissal of American punk. Imo, I think Lydon saw the effects of heroin on the British punk scene when Johnny Thunders came over, and the effect it had on Sid, so that might have started his resentment towards the American punk rock scene.
I've never understand why American and British punk is compared all the time. Both were completely different scenes. I prefer British punk, because i'm British, and i'll be honest a bit biased.
To be honest, I do find Marky Ramone a bit arrogant, going on about which band came first. It shouldn't matter. Punk is universal. You don't see Black Sabbath bitching to Deep Purple on a metal panel on what band came first, only in punk that happens 😂😂
