    David Cooper is indeed one of the best Horn players I’ve ever listened, I’m from Chicago and have heard him in the CSO when they played Ein Heldenleben and I loved his playing since. This concerto he played had so much emotion he put in his playing. Loved it!!! As a horn player in high school, I look up to this amazing hornist!

    Shout out to my friend David Alan Cooper with the Dallas Symphony! Wow! I loved how you performed the "Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 in E flat" so beautifully and passionately! This was one of my favorite pieces that I performed when I would have auditions. Awesome Bravura opening and runs in the composition. Your crystal clear, warm tone throughout the dynamic range of this piece and the sweet melodic singing of your horn make your performance unforgettable! I also loved how you were able to add your signature artistry and musicianship in such an enjoyable way while remaining true to the composer! You are one of my favorite Horn Masters!!! Keep bringing the AMAZING performances! Can't wait to see what's next from you and the Dallas Symphony!! Happy New Year!! :-)

    The first recorded performance I've heard to nearly rival that of Myron Bloom, which I still consider to be the best ever. Very controlled and refined, not the "horn hero" Boris Becker approach used by the other players I've heard.

    • @colesorensen3540
      @colesorensen3540 Před 5 lety

      I think the hero approach is better, in my opinion. It has more risks and it isn't as dry. The brassy edge of a horn shouldn't be completely eliminated like this, because it takes away a certain color and texture to a work that makes it sound less musical. Completely my opinion though! We are all entitled to our own taste, and this certainly isn't mine. I prefer the hero. It suits the horn.

    THIS is how the Horn should sound ! Unique, centered, tightly held, and clear. I have no patience with musicians who think the Horn should sound like a Euphonium filling up Yankee Stadium. Or played like a timid soy boy. Or a turkey trapped inside a crate of wool. And the WORST being played with tremolo like a musical saw or sounding like the "banana man" when he forgets to take his haloperidol.

    • @danielibanezgarcia
      @danielibanezgarcia Před 3 lety

      @@ejlabarre I've been accompanied many times at the piano playing Strauss 1st when I was a horn student, and I've never heard anything like that, so it's an educated opinion. I can tell you, many many notes and chords are wrong. I'm not saying he was missing notes, I'm saying he didn't know the score.
      I do respect if the guy was feeling nervous or anything, and probably he's a great pianist, but to me it's a fact that the interpretation is flat, and he was guessing notes rather than making music.
      Here you have an example of what I consider a proper piano playing, also with Cooper: czcams.com/video/rLeSZ3ejpjI/video.html. Hope you appreciate the difference.
