@Henri Hänninen I would agree with you, especially at the beginning of this section. If I were Mr. Caballero, I would try to play this a BIT more delicately and sensitively. I feel like he is playing a bit too much in extremes for a soloist. This is just my opinion, of course; I hope I do not offend anyone.

I think it would sound far much better on a Horn with more resistance like the Alexander 103 or Dürk D3. It wouldnt sound that "extreme" brassy or how it's called in french: quivrée. The excerpt is just too loud for the Horn I think.

it's the other way around actually, it is very hard to play really loud on 103 without getting brassy

its not about resistance. i actually try a ricco kühn, wich has less resistance but has more power than my 103, which is a good one

@Felix Noll I completely agree with your statement. I think that's why Stefan Dohr's performance of this piece is so beloved; he plays on an Alexander just like the rest of the Philharmoniker horn section if I'm not mistaken.

I found this to slightly too hasty, the conductor had too much energy behind the piece. I think the best performance of this is Stefan Dohr's.
    Still beautiful though!

I would say Solti Chicago is my preferred taste. Having heard this in person I have this as second. I actually prefer the extreme brassiness. Unfortunately playing like this will get any horn player not named Bill Caballero kicked out of an audition.

@@pirate8507 Well, except for the fact that his softs were very tasteful.

@starwarsjunkie7777 sure. I studied with the guy firsthand so the style is unique.

Jeffrey Chan that’s a Paxman triple callabero is playing on

You know Dohr was sitting in that audience thinking to himself "yeah, I can play that better." Actually all horn players do that but you get my point. This was awful and way too brassy. Doesn't really sound like horn to be honest.

      Thanks.
I was gonna say this but in actuality i think it has to do with that fact that hes playing an alexander. That soft is so quiet and delicate... honestly completely out of style but.. u get my point

That’s fair. It’s quite punchy. Not as tastefully sung as it could be. I agree. Still a great performance…different, and yet great too.
