    I cried when they put the screws in, the pressure was unreal. When they removed it, it felt like my skull was going to explode, I could feel it in my teeth, but I would do it all over again as I now live a healthy life.

    My Daughter had this treatment at Barts, she found the headframe painful as her treatment was 4 hours, taking it off after can give a headache due to pressure of wearing it. Her AVM took around 3 years to go following this, so much better than surgery

    Everyone handles pain different now they dont say they have to numb your head with needles which was most uncomfortable for me because they had to stick me about ten or more times in the back of my head but they did make sure i was comfortable it was a 8 hour procedure i fell the sleep in the gamma machine i was so sedative other than that it is better than the knife my doctor's did a great job and the nurse's

    I had this gramma knife surgery two months back . Its not as easy as is shown in some vedeos. Screwing the head in a metal frame at the age of 70 was terribly painful but the doctors never explain it before fixing the frame. I cried a lot with pain but they say it will settle in some time. Though better than open surgery but really really painful .

    What the main differences between GK Perfexion and GK ICON?

    • @susanjohnson6795
      @susanjohnson6795 Před 3 lety

      Icon is the latest model. Perfexion is 1 generation old. The Icon adds the capability to use a thermoplastic mask instead of a frame. But the mask is rarely used. Most doctors are afraid to use the mask unless they are forced to perform fractionated (multi-session) treatments. Fractionation might be needed for malignant cancer tumours.

    I just had this procedure done 2 days ago, and I am perturbed by this video!!!! It was a very unpleasant experience. The smile on the patient’s face through out the video is an inauthentic representation of the procedure. The most irritating clip in the video is the lady sitting up with a smile and chatting with the staff! The procedure is a great alternative to surgery, and an incredible medical innovation, but this video misrepresents the process.

      I’m having it for the second time in the next few weeks the best way I explain it to people is. It’s like a magnifying glass when lighting fire it only works when the 2 beams touch an one single beam won’t damage tissue only when they touch. They concerntrate the beams so they touch around the AVM

      Shampoo Doesnt taste as good as it smells In theory yes but In most cases it causes necrosis around the lesion an takes a long time to work but it’s a miracle machine in my eyes

      Shampoo Doesnt taste as good as it smells Brain tissue that dies heals it’s self over time it’s amazing. After 2 years of my last treatment I suffered necrosis around the AVM. Then after 4 years it’s had fully healed leaving a tiny scar. I’ll be going for round 2 bring it on ✊

    • @philcosgrove6823
      @philcosgrove6823 Před 4 lety +1

      Shampoo Doesnt taste as good as it smells I know it doesn’t I said brain tissue. Brain tissue heals it’s self over time. If it was single beam or fractionated then this would destroy brain cells that’s why stereotactic is so amazing it doesn’t work till the beams touch at the point of contact of the AVM or what your trying to treat. Are you a doctor or had this treatment also

    This is the most awful and the most archaic thing that I've ever seen in my entire life! And it is also very terrifying! With all of today's technology there has to be a better way to do this without having to adhere a metal frame to your head! What I would like to know is why can't you use the machine to stabilize somebody's head without having to put a frame on somebody's head? Why do you have to screw in a metal frame in order to do the radiation? There has to be another way. And what would you do for a person that has an allergy to metal? How would you then do the radiation? There has to be an alternative.

      @@GobindaShort you should definitely have a consultation with a radiation oncologist before you make your final decision because you want to have the right decision for you based on the size of your tumor and your symptoms. I had radiation done in May of this year and they used a moldable plastic mask. It was a piece of multiple plastic that was dipped in hot water and it was molded around the back of my head and there was another piece that was molded around my face. During that time they also took a CAT scan and if you don't have an MRI then they can do an MRI also. Then I had to wait a period of two weeks while everything was set up and the doctor came up with my correct dosage and the correct positioning for the machine and everything that they had to do technically. So then when I had the radiation done the reposition The mask over my head which was a lot tighter because it had hardened. The radiation treatment itself only took about 6 minutes. I felt fine afterwards but I got sick that evening.
