    How to install rings, piston and hone a cylinder, Honda 3 wheeler, HELP! ATC Repair
    In this episode I rebuild the top end of a Honda 200cc ATC engine . Each video in this series breaks down another step in the process of rebuilding and maintaining your Honda ATC 3 wheeler. Think of this series as a "How to" or an online shop manual for easy, quick repairs for your 3 wheeler. I pick up where the dealer has left off. Many of these tips will apply across the model lines of most ATC 3 wheelers from the 70, 90, 185, 200 and even the 250 four strokes and 350x. I focus on the major repairs that are most common to ATC owners. I show you how I make the repairs and hopefully you will save some money for yourself and be able to get back on the trail enjoying your ATC.

    Nice video. Reminds me of the teen years overhauling straight 6 rambler engines at my uncles shop.
    Question. Why are you putting so much pb blaster on the hone just to spin all of it off before using the hone?
    Moist is more than enough. Especially for just a cross hatch on these tiny engines.

      Hi Oscar, are you refering to the little rubber plug part number 12271-383-000
      If so it acts as a block off to keep more oil in the top of the head and on the cam. The larger end is pressed into the head and then expands to hold it in position. Hope that helps thanks for watching.

    Hey man, nice video, I just had a question, when you “stagger” the position and oil rings, do you put all of them 180 degrees from each other, so none of them are facing the same way? Does it matter what way the oil spacer ring faces?

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes, I stagger every ring. Some say it dosent matter because they walk around when the engine is running. But I have always done it.

      @@mrcbuilds I have a ProX piston and my rings are not marked like the Shindy rings. I was asking, does your middle ring have a groove cut in the outer top of it? ... And is your Top ring a little thicker?

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  Před 3 lety +1

      @@11GalleryATV I would suggest go to their website, every manufacture dose it alittle different. The shindy rings are the same thickness but the outer edge angle is different between the top and second ring. I would hate to tell you wrong, I am not familiar with the proX product.

    • @11GalleryATV
      @11GalleryATV Před 3 lety

      @@mrcbuilds I understand and respect that. Upon all my research all the brand's (Shindy. ProX, WiseCo, Namura, etc.) 200x ring sets, including OEM have one ring with a slight cut (or groove) notched into it and one ring is squared. I cannot find one ounce of information on which ring belongs at the TOP and which one is the "Scraper" (middle). I am just asking which way you did yours and does it run properly. It looks like you put the darker ring on top and the grooved ring as the middle ring. My rings are Marked "R" and "RN" but I cannot find a definitive answer as to which goes where.

    Hi, Rebuilding an 84 honda 200es. Bike smokes. I have rebuilt the valves with new seals and cleaned them and seated them per your videos. Bike still smokes. Now going to flex hone cylinder and replace rings. Piston is STD, old ring end gap was .024. bore is .0015 out of spec for new, new rings have .016 end gap. I believe spec is a lot less. Should i go with the next over size ring and file them down to spec or should that gap suffice? any help would be appreciated.

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi steve, I would replace the piston and rings while your there. Check the end gap on the new rings when you get them. You are at the limit of needing a over bore if you plan to keep this bike, go ahead and bore it out 62.25 order proper piston and ring and be done with it. Paying to have one bored out is less than 100.

      No more than a couple good heat cycles, unless the exhaust is full of oil, that can take a long time. You may want to soak the exhaust in a cleaner

      Hey Stretch Nuts, I have never had a problem with the provided rings with a piston purchase, I am sure it is possible to be sent the wrong parts, I not going to lie to you and tell you I checked them. Once the jug is on and the piston cycles with no binding or excessive slop, I move on. Thanks for watching and I will try and take a moment to check that next time.

      Most agree now on a 4 stroke the rings walk around, with that said they would align at some point. So its said now it's not as big a deal as it use to be. But to help them stay unaligned start off by having them stagered. I try to stagger them about 90 degrees from one another.
