The brilliance of that subtle “Stephen” joke. Perfection.
My mom wrote Steve, often in the 1970's. She got one of those letters from him. With the "Looking at eachother" filled in. We sent him a telegram to the Tonight Show, a couple days before we were going to see him in Chicago. It was telling him we were sending a box backstage and to please accept it. It was a Coral color rose boutonniere . And when he came on stage , he was wearing it ! Wonderful memory .I was in 7th grade at the time. And so glad that was my first concert
That's awesome!
That's super awesome.
So he's a classy guy right along with being wild and crazy... That's good to hear!
Aww, I love this story! Good for your mom!
Not to drag the story out, but , I always wanted to go to the Letterman Show. And on a fluke , had to go to a trade show during the last weeks of Dave doing The Late Show. I got a call back , and they were shooting 2 episodes that thursday. The first episode guest was Michelle Obama , which is great, but the second show was Steve . So I picked that one. My mom has passed away, but getting to that show, I felt she was there with me. Dave and Steve were "fake" crying, I was teared up. And the Song Steve did with friends was, '"May The Circle Be Unbroken " . I was in tears .
Steve Martin is 74 years old but hasn't aged since 1990
Serious!
Very true
And his voice, energy, and wit are still exactly the same!
Vampire!!! ;)
"Oh that's so sweet, how old's your daughter?"
"55."
LMAO
I know! It's so unexpected! ROFLOLOLOL...
@@carrotjuse unexpected? He has WHITE hair!
Melissa Steed his daughter is actually 6. She’s his only child. He was being silly :)
Feasibly he could have a 55 year old, if he’d fathered one around 18, so it’s possible... but he didn’t have any children into his 2nd marriage.
Stephen got an autograph and stole steves pen..lol...
I noticed that. I wonder if he has a collection.
I watched it again. He did take his pen.
I wanna be at that stage of my career where I can just say, "yeah, I'm here for the money, and also I'm not 100% sure where I even am"
Whether you like his comedy or not you can not deny his pure genius at the genre.
Martin Short has left the chat.
🤓🧐
Martin is looking good for 74 years old!
I’d forgotten about Steve Martin
His timing is spot on
cupidstunt22 such natural talent!! A person of character, who is a character! Also, fine musician!
What do you mean by that, does he never miss the bus?
How, What, When did he disappear from your appreciation of his multi-talented wonderful works?! "Forgotten"!?
michael wertzy about 1996!
Man Whodrinksbeer comic timing, and I suspect he never misses the bus!
-How old is she
-She is 55
I didn't see that coming
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Luckily Steve's not wearing his white suit, or I'd think he was just a negative print of Stephen, interviewed by himself.
Brilliant! :)
Steve: I grab her by the arms and toss her in the air
Stephen: How old is your daughter......?
Steve: She's 55
LOL!
"Just 2 wild and, crazy guys"
Steve Martin created the Auto reply??!!
Hard to believe Steve is 74 years old. I hope he makes it to 100 (and Martin Short, too!)
Lol, this interview had me dying several times. And it's all in good fun but the fake condescension was just pure comedic gold.
"And I realized, he wasn't drunk at all. He was just singing incoherently."
Ah. Sounds like a future agent of the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Steve Martin 😅 I miss him in movies but I watch his Greats over again! And again lol and crying where appropriate.
I was watching' The Jerk' yesterday!
"She's 55"
I have always loved Stephe (Steve) Martin.
and I have become a huge fan of Colbert since back on Daily.
but I hadn't realized how much until my wife and I watched this.
"Duh! it seems like you patterned your whole personality on them both!"
a little Sesame Street and Hawkeye Pierce to boot,
but YEAH!
He doesn't age. He looks exactly the same as he did in the 80's
4:28 I've never seen such a lifelike 'Kermit quietly swallowing hurt feelings' as Stephen's expression here
I had no idea Steve Martin was doing comedy since the 70s
You should all go and watch old episodes of SCTV from the 80's if you like Steve martin, John Candy and Eugene Levy.
I think you mean Martin Short, not Steve Martin? I know Steve hosted SNL a lot, but I think only Martin did both SCTV and SNL. Regardless, you'll see quite a few comedy legends on SCTV, so it's definitely worth checking out
Steve’s never been on SCTV
Conspiracat Martin Short was on SCTV and SNL, Steve Martin was only on SNL, hoser.
Steven Martin roasted the shit out of Stephan and his show, on his show lmaoo
Maybe All Celebs Should Make Cards Like That For Their Fans Because That’s Really Pretty Cool of Steve
Wild and crazy guy.
its called ACTING!
dana375
Showing your age. Maybe.
ML Feathers : So are you. I'll raise you a King Tut.
Who else has watched Trains, Planes, and Automobiles a thousand times?
LA Story, The Man with Two Brains, All of Me - three far superior movies you gotta see instead
@@TeamSugoiFrog LA Story sucks
I probably watched "Dead Men don't wear Plaid" a thousand times when I was a kid :)
Just thought about it. Often.
I am a fifty year old son of a marine, and I still get choked up every time I see that movie.
Missed you Steve!
Steve:”I Don’t go Around Calling Myself Stephen,That’d be so Arrogant”
me:Calling Out Colbert
Love love love this naturally funny man, Stephen Martin. Lol, ie Steve. I saw him at the Martin Short show in the Summer of 1992, and honestly Steve was the only funny part of the show. He even did non-scripted humor during the show, as well as made the cast laugh throughout the "commercial breaks."
Steve and Martin's recent special was hammy and awfully scripted. Still good in parts but honestly a bit cringeworthy.
Like, they are the ying to the other's yang. Martin Short is hilarious being loud, needy, and over the top; while Steve Martin is hilarious being calm, acerbic, and indifferent. I get how one, or both, might not be your comedic taste, but to not see the genius of the two coming together to wreck utter havoc is just short-sighted.
I see he's still as funny as ever 💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s crazy he doesn’t ever age he remains the same ❤️
nothing in this world more depressing than realizing steve martin is getting older. i love him 😭😭😭
It's depressing that I'm going to look older than Steve Martin in 30 years.
Stephen Martin said no one wants to listen to 12 tracks. That's why I stopped at eleven. Never mind that it's 56 minutes long.
His "What's the name of this show?" 😬😉 Oops We'll call that a joke. Ha. Ha. 😆
Freaky seeing him on the late show, I was only watching 'Dirty rotten scoundrels' a couple of nights ago and forgot how funny Steve is.
Actual legend.
IF Martin Short was married to Steve Martin he'd be Martin Martin.
HILARIOUS!
That is REAL humor!
Well EXCUUUUUUUSE MEEEEEE!!!!!!! I was just getting small.....and then Steve and Stephen were on my screen and we all got really small together......we're so tiny we can bounce electrons off the sub-orbital shells....
Comedic. Genius.
What a great touch from Jon Batiste - playing the melody of Antonio Carlos Jobim's 'Wave' right after Steve Martin fills in the sentence about the trip to Rio!
Steve Martin is legend. Personalized reply card and letter💡. References “Death of a Salesman” and Lil Nas X. Original 1955 Disneyland cast member, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”, Shopgirl novella.
Stephen Colbert I love your show and I'm a huge fan of Steve Martin 😃😃😃 ... I remember back in 2013 when Netflix was just starting with only good movies ah ..ah I mean... Just starting, I watched for the first time Planes, Trains & Automobile I want to share this because I remember that I laugh as very few times in my life 😂😂😂😂😂 the scene he (Steve Martin) get out the shower and have to dry himself with single use hand papers I passed out that so much I laugh 😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👏 you guys are beyond words✨
What a Super comic!
nah
yah
Colbert clearly doesn't realize how funny Steve is being here.
Maybe he's feeling a bit.....outshined?!! 😳
Still love 'The Jerk', 1977.....
What a classic!!
Daniel Brown - Stephen was nervous. I think he was trying to hid his inner fan girl by amping it up to impress Steve & to get the laughs that sooth him.
Freaking love that movie!
Didn't think he was funny and it seemed like the audience wasn't laughing as much either. Also, I couldn't tell if he was sauced or old age is catching him
Usually when Colbert has a comedian as a guest, they're already friends and the chemistry is wonderful.
A shame it doesn't seem that way with Steve Martin.
He's had a couple bad interviews with Steve Martin. They just dont really jive
I agree. I feel Martin is a little dismissive of Colbert. How DARE he be rude to my Stephen.
Steve Martin I don't think thinks Steve Colbert is funny
Steve is a different kind of comic and usually keeps the gag going during interviews. Stephen jives well with people who are (mostly) just being themselves.
@@agalo3631 actually I think Stephen's best work was back when he was with comedy central and he would do interviews on other people's shows in character. He was really dangerous because he was subtle and quick thinking.
Maybe the problem is that Colbert's best comedy was satire and Steve Martin is more character-actor comedy. But I'm sure Colbert gets along with other character actor comedians like Martin Short.
Thank God for Steve Martin!
Y'know... I can just see Steve performing Old Town Road, dressed as Cowboy Gill from Parenthood! :)
Is that a manicure 💅 Steve's nails are polished 😂 I haven't had a manicure in ages 🙈 I feel so bad about my self 🤣
That story with the three guys and the one is singing, I thought it was gonna end with that was the inspiration for The Three Amigos. Lol
Damn, Steve Martin looks fucking gooooood
Me thinks Steve was just a tad on the "sauce," tonight, lol!! Good on 'm because he's still on the proverbial "ball, no matter!" 🤣
Loads of comments are saying he hasn’t aged since the 80s but he looks way older than he did even in the 90s.
I think they’re blinded by the grey hair.
I regularly rewatch his movies - _The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains_ and _Housesitter_ are in fairly regular rotation and he has clearly aged, albeit very well but he’s no Paul Rudd.
One of my favs. Still have his first comedy albums. Lol. I promise to be weird. I promise to be unique. I promise not to repeat things other people say. Lol.
What a coincidence to see Steve Martin on ... I watched Cheaper by the Dozen 1&2 back to back today on the telly and had some good laughs! What a Human Being, gorgeous, and funny never hurt eh!!
When you don’t know if Stephen likes Stephen or dislikes Stephen...
Or whether Stephen reciprocates those feelings...
@@DrDespicable you mean steven?
@@jacencade4019 I think he means Steve or maybe it's Stevie?
Stephen x Stephen
I think Stephen likes Stephen, but I don’t think Stephen likes Stephen as much.
When I was a kid I always got confused between Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Martin Short came into "fame," way before Steve Martin. Steve Martin is the funny one. Naturally funny. Martin falls "Short," usually needing good comedic writing. Lol, that's how you remember the difference between these 2.
Oops got the first part backwards, Steve Martin came on the comedy scene before Short did.
Should have gone to Specsavers.
steve martin and harrison ford were the same person as far as i was concerned.
Mantis Toboggan
What?! No connection there, except generation!
Netflix has an Steve Martin & Martin Short special. Watch it. Best 1,5 hour of your life.
Steve Martin you are a special soul. The world needs more people like you. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Mr Martin is a national treasure.
Saw him in San Antonio way back then. 💖
I always liked Steve Martin. One of those actors that stood out to me as a kid. He has great smile and that happy attitude.
Some Steve love for sure. Yeah, baby!
He's so sharp and energetic. Almost...too...energetic.
He looks amazing
San Antonio! Woot woot 🎉
It's a rare fellow who walks along the beach in Rio to look at _rocks_ instead of _women._
tbf, those WERE some pretty shapely rocks lol
That letter idea is pure genius!
Steve Martin is such a legend
Going around as Stephen, that would be so arrogant. 😆 Zonk!
"that cat was the best fuq i ever had"
I laughed so hard at this.
There is a National Comedy Center. I recommend Steve Martin donate some of these items to the Center.
I arched SNL every Sat in the 70s. He was awesome! Still is.
Steve martin is a national Treasure~!
Too much funny in one space!
Steve's been my fav since i saw him host snl. He looks great.
How does he still look exactly the same as he did in the 90s??
Is it me, or does Steve Martin look the exact same age he did back in the 80's.
He looks almost exactly the same as he did in Trains, Planes and Automobiles. Only his eyebrows age it seems.
love you stevo colbz! u da man!
She's 55... Tip my hat to one of the greatest
Gotta love Steve Martin.
❤️
Hey Steve Martin: maybe you could represent me as a lawyer in a felony trial? After all, you're a lawyer too. It could be performance art. The possibilities are endless.
@4:09 Colbert just can't believe he's doing a bit with the great Steve Martin.
4:41 A bit of Jobim in the background ... though he kept referring to them as “Samba” rather than “Bossa Nova” pieces ...
caught that too. wave :)
I was hoping the last insert in the letter to Stephen would have been "butts".
@ 4:05 😂
A Simple Twist of Fate
I remember that card!
I had no idea his name was spelled Stephen Martin!
He's a legend. Miss him in movies. Hope he does more films. Maybe another Cheaper By the Dozen.
He's made 49 films if you don't count documentaries or short films. and that's from my career stretching all the way back to 1972 that's a lot of films although you're right he hasn't made a movie since 2015
That will help empty his mailbox... lol
Steve Martin is a national treasure.
Old Town Road is such a weird unusual pop hit (same as with bad guy) that you can't help but think older people who don't "get" modern music could absolutely fit right in with it because it resembles (in concept) the kind of weird experimental stuff being made in the 80s
Steve Martin gives as good as he gets!!
Steve Martin discovered Mad Libs.
