  • Third and final movement of my concerto called Metamorphosis. The idea behind the title was that each movement would get progressively more complex harmonically. Much of the promised harmonic development can be found in the cadenza, but this movement is also the most modern of the three in terms of orchestration and general style.
    cadenza: 6:10-12:37
notes: After nearly twelve months of writing I finished my first piano concerto. This movement is by far the largest and most grandiose in scale, filled with reference to my favorite composer like Rachmaninoff, Feinberg, Prokofiev and many more. There are also quotes to Lana del Rey and other music I like listening to generally. I think that some of the presto sections are too fast for orchestras in written tempo, so in performance they would have to be slower. This also uses the orchestra in a more cinematic way, as opposed to the symphonic way of orchestration seen in the earlier movements. The solo part is very pianistic but I struggle playing it at the written tempo. My favorite part of the movement is the cadenza; it is one of the most liberal pieces I have made so far. This piece is also the largest single movement I have made yet.

Instantly captivated by the opening, what a way to open the finale! It reminds me of Rachmaninoff but still has the originality that every composer seeks (I imagine). Anyway, very interesting musical language and piece, congrats!
