what surprised me the most is how much japanese people are helpful and kind. also the vending machines theu re everywhere . i remember that time when i was in kyoto i got kind of lost in some area where there were nobody and discovered an isolated shrine wich by the way was magnificent but most of all there where about 4 vending machines in there , i was so surprised and gratefull cause it was so hot that day. Haha
Want to visit Japan !!!!

When I was in college I had a roommate from Japan who was shocked by toilets here. She found it very strange that toilets are pretty much the same everywhere. No special buttons or anything. Another thing she found rather odd was the fact we have beds that just stay. They don't get rolled up, and had to have the whole "make the bed" thing explained to her because it's very different in Japan. Sitting in a chair at the table was also kind of odd for her. She was used to sitting on a pillow or on the floor with a low table. it bothered her so much that she just refused to eat the the dinner table and used the coffee table instead. Oh, and the clothes. She was appalled by the things she saw people wearing (or not wearing) when they go grocery shopping, namely Walmart. People in pajamas, folks wearing what she considered very promiscuous, women not wearing makeup, and people not covering their tattoos.
Yuuko Song lmao😂
That last girl had no idea what she was talking about. 😓
What surprised me when I first visit Japan were:
1. Fast train (No train like that fast in my country)
2. Solar powered houses (Narita area while at the train)
3. Few cars in cities
4. People walk fast
5. People ride bicycles in sidewalks
6. Yellow markings in the sidewalks
7. Pedestrians are prioritized in streets when crossing
8. Clean surroundings
9. No street sweepers
10. Polite people
11. Flip phones
12. Prompt attitude
13. Serious work mode
14. Enjoys beer a lot
15. Food prices (x4 the price in my country)
16. Noddle based foods
17. Almost all Japanese women are pretty
18. Relax mood of people around city
19. Just right outside temperature
20. No cars are honking
21. Vending machines everywhere
22. Food always tastes great
23. English is not spoken by most people
I have seen workers, very likely volunteers walk around certain stretch of streets looking for rubbish. Thats how they keep the streets clean :-)
lol at 3:12 girl saying people in Japan are more relaxed. bwahahahaa...she needs to stay longer in Japan
Cathy Cat has this unique half british half japanese accent going on lol
I never went to the UK and I used to think that British girls are the least pretty looking girls in Europe but apparently I was wrong. Cathy changed my views. I would totally marry this girl if I had the chance lol.
+Rc Enhancer Cathy is german
rafael shono
Yeah I recently found that. Still she is amazing!
+Rc Enhancer Germans learn british english :D
+Tobey C Ich finde man hätte uns eher amerikanisches englisch beibringen sollen xD
The cleanliness is huge!! My bf and I visited Tokyo last Summer and there are these random electrical boxes or idk, ash boxes just on the side of people's homes and it seemed even those are dusted and not rusting. Also I love you sanitary and free public toilets. I feel like everywhere else I go, toilets are either free and dirty or clean but cost money.
What surprised me was how safe it was like we were walking around at 10pm and we still felt safe! There was even a kid riding his bike lol.
what surprised me a lot were the trains since they came perfectly on time or even earlier plus i thought the whole system with these marks on the platforms was super organized. and i liked the fact that even in crowded places nobody bumps into you or pushes you~ anyways people stared at me quite a lot idk
I love Japan so much... People are nice, the whole country is very clean. People come always on time. They are accurate and precise in almost everything. And many more.. That’s why Koreans envy them soo much.
I guess Japan & its stuff guarantee expatriates many surprises. Japan's full of many curiosities, after all. Anyhow, it's interesting to ask expats what make them surprised in Japan. I love those guys' reactions in this video.
When I was in Tokyo I was a bit surprised by the toilets as well (both traditional and new with 20,000 buttons haha). Also, that smoking is still allowed in many restaurants. The biggest shock for me was that I could go into a convenience store and buy alcohol, and drink it right after paying, even while walking on the street!! I walked past cops and they just nodded and kept walking. That blew my mind. OH, and pizza in Japan... NOTHING like pizza in the USA haha. I grew up in New York, so I love pizza, but the pizzas I found (my friend wanted Dominos) were all crazy with a ton of toppings, really small pies, and very expensive! $15-$26 US for a pie here that would cost only about $6. I ordered what I thought was plain cheese (this Dominos didn't have English on the menu) but when I got it, they had HID THE TOPPINGS under my cheese! And 4 different toppings, each 1/4 something different haha. I love Japan so much, but I think I'll always find things there to shock me!
Yes, this alcohol consumption thing. :D In Germany you can drink on the street without trouble too. In the US you have to hide your beverage in this ugly brown paper bags that marks you as an alcoholic ^^
I am a man from Algeria I want friends from Japan I love the people of Japan and I love Japan😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Yeah, she got that wrong hahaha
+P3MC LOL, more relaxed my ass. I may be a foreigner but I know that working in Japan is something else
+P3MC maybe she's from Manhattan?
1:35 Cathy Cat was like, "I am not a kid -_-"
I think that the kindness of the people and that they are so organized and tidy , I would love to go again nwn!! Greetings from Chile!
Never heard about "squat toilets" before I came to Japan. I was, pretty shocked when I saw the first one.
Also, people being quiet on the train and generally introverted is no myth. Even for a German guy like me (we guys are pretty introverted) japanese people are shy and quiet.
+ the vending machines. Vending machines everywhere, especially for drinks. Was pretty helpful cause I was there in summer 14 and it was hot af.
Agree with the "stares" thing. I get a lot of stares...cause I'm butt-ugly. So in every country that I go, people keep staring at me saying "Omg, Ugly af!!" LOL But when I went to Japan, nobody stare at me. That's nice.
P.S: Cathy looks amazingly pretty in this videos ^^
lol I saw a movie script while reading ur comment. But you know what Japan is for everyone, the nerds, the weirdos all kind of people. I think as a society Japanese people are more aware and respecting towrds everyone.
Rc Enhancer Oh yes. The tolerance there is amazing. I belive that anyone that goes to Japan is really susrprised about that, and that's the main reason that I love that country. The people is incredibly nice ^^
And they don't care about my butt-ugly face
+Arlekin Vergeltungswaffe Haha come on your not that ugly if thats the way you are born then no one should think your ugly. In fact many famous holywood actors used to be fukin ugly but look where there talent took them. I guess even if someone will not look that appealing to most people still he or she will be able to change peoples mind just by accepting her/himself. Just be positive man. And am sure Japan is a tye best place to be positive haha.
Rc Enhancer I was so ugly as a baby that they tell the boogeyman "Watch out, Arlekin is going to get you" LOL
Don't worry man, I'm only joking. I accept who I am. I like to treat myself like shit so people laughs XD
Arlekin Vergeltungswaffe Hahaha well you made me laugh from the first time bro.
Cathy cat you speak English very well.I like you I love you very much thank you from Pakistan
After some 35 years in Japan, first impressions are really valuable.
One of my first impressions of Tokyo in the mid 1970s was that it really smelt bad.
LOVED IT.............
Japanese people are more relaxed? where in America are you from
@Polyhead
Really?
That's interesting:))
Polyhead Wait - what? Does the east coast have a reputation I don’t know about?
Cathy looks a few years younger in these series with the horns (compared to that part inside the studio at the end for example). Make-up magic? Or lighting?
Japan's obsession with corn.
corn...corn...so much corn...
Change c with p
We eat a lot of corn here too.
That's Indiana also xD half the state is cornfields
I really really want to go to Japan one day!
Me too!
you guys should ask what Japanese think of Visual Kei. I've read that its pretty much the equivalent of Justin Bieber (as in only teen girls listen to visual kei bands while the rest hate them) but it would be awesome to actually hear first hand what they think of it
Hey Cathy! could you do a video on asking foreigners(Indians,Arabs also which I never saw in videos) wearing their traditional clothes of their interest that why do they wear and what makes them motivated to wear them including yourself
3:02 Wow it’s Mel off FOTC !
in japan people are more relax!? you have not idea, you talking about the busiest working culture in the world oh pls
I was also offered an umbrella by a stranger when it was raining like hell :o
3:00 - she said it ....... 4th dimension is everything, its mostly just the west coast but people move to and from and because of that the 2020s are supposed to be better
actually, can she be my gf?
cathy's shirt looks so nice :>
Every big city I go to I always can find Turkish food. Nepali food is also relatively common here.
WTF Americans are way relaxed xD
2:09 That's what dude is working with, lol
It's interesting that they say cat cafes are a shock to them because I live in the US and there is a cat cafe in my city!
I love you Cathy 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
3:01 is like... really? rofl
Haha, I wonder if it's only Aussie's who refer to places as "hole"s? xD
It was always like that growing up, especially with rivaling neighbourhoods. "[Such and such place] is such a hole!"
Did that guy seriously say "shell-shocked?" ._.
Lovely Cathy Cat...
I just wanna go to see a Perfume concert *-*
I pretty much liked that night life is very vibrant. You can also do shopping almost until midnight or one because the shops are still open. The restaurants and convenient stores too! Suica card really helps reducing the annoying coins in your pocket. The way japanese people dress is very stylish and unique. And also how educated they are is impressive. The greater attention for details in everything from products to interior design architecture or urban planning. The helpfulness and how on each door or corner there is someone to guide you. Love japan and japanese people !
NO, THE RISING SUN FLAG IN TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC!! THE RISING SUN FLAG WAS THAT JAPAN USED DURING THE WORLD WAR II AND THE PACIFIC WAR BY THE EMPIRE'S NAVY AND SOLDIERS.
wa~~oo~~!!english isundersatanding!!
love you cat :) ... lol
Cathy, where are you now, still in Japan and if so what are you doing now here?
The girl at 0:12's shirt though, I think I need one too.
thank you rial now this.
One thing I'm confused about the Japanese, is how they remember their alphabet and such. Like, don't they have like 46 or 71? All I know is the English alphabet. But then again, English is considered to be the hardest language to learn. So I'm not exactly one to judge about that.
I think they use 3 alphabets together.
Does the last girl think people are more relaxed?!!
It's dangerous to sleep on the street so be careful.
From Japan

I couldn't understand that british girl xD... it was too hardcore english :).
I didn't like that American guy hanging on to his wife or girl friend. Looks like he is afraid she might run off and leave him. Also that brit doing the same thing.

+Muneo Yosi
gasitugasugoi
How is it that no one talks of Chikan (groping), harakiri forest, isolation, old age citizens, hard work-for what? Also the non willingness of the Japanese to learn English to communicate better? Is this channel biased?🤣🤣🤣
