2 other things I've noticed between the Chinese and global ROMs:
1. I can use 3rd party launchers in the global ROM. So Niagara works. Could never get it on the Chinese one.
2. Global ROM supports eSIM for the 2nd SIM slot. Unfortunately, that means that you have to choose between a second SIM *or* eSIM. You can't have 3 lines (i.e. 2 physical SIMs and 1 eSIM ).

Hi Mike! You said in your video last time the Ticwatch pro 5 did not connect after the google latch has that changed for the chinese rom. Feally hoping there will be a flashable version of the global rom to iron out these small deficits. Really happy using my Chinese rom v2. Addicted to it))
The reason Verizon in the US has connectivity issues because they're a legacy CDMA provider rather than GSM provider, so they have different bands and until LTE they didn't use SIM cards.

I have 3 folds the fold 5 , oneplus open and the magic v2 , i see which one is better software wise that goes to samsung having 3 apps open in multi apps , the oneplus has best sound and the v2 wins for being thin and light plus battery goes well as well

Hey Mike! Lol, after having the Chinese for months(Google patch), I'm really amazed at the number of people that bought the global versus Chinese.. Especially after seeing this video! I pretty much figured, like yourself that there were only going to be one or two features that the Chinese doesn't have. Personally, the only one I'm interested in, is the assistant that I'd love to use, hoping it's like Bixby in controlling the phone. But it's such a massive price jump for the global version! It's like rape me raw!

Nice video Average Dad. I have the Global variant and also gotten the Magic Pen recently. However, I noticed that the Chinese variant has more stylus/pen features built in. For example, when you tap on the circular pen icon, there is a list of options for the Chinese variant whereas the Global variant only has 3 options to select. Also, with the Chinese variant you can crop any image from any source and paste to the Notes using the Magic Pen. I can't do the same with the Global variant. Since you have both variants, can you confirm my findings? Thanks.

Mike I got my V2 on Monday but going to return it. The phone specs and build quality is amazing but not impressed with the software. There are lot of apps which you only use vertically in multitasking and cannot use horizontal multitasking for it. Do you anyway to work around this where like Samsung Fold phones you can use any app in multitasking in any orientation. Thanks
The z fold 6 and 7 will be awesome but Huawei mate x5 is perhaps the best
settings -> foldable phones -> app scaling - change apps to full screen. have you tried this yet?
My query isn't regarding the app scaling it is running multitasking horizontally not vertically. I tried to run Mxplayer Pro and Chrome horizontally in multitasking but it gave an error that MX Player Pro does not support horizontal feature. Whereas on my Z Fold 2 I didn't have any issues running MX Player Pro in horizontal multitasking
@umairjehangir1208 samsung has the best software in android on my opinion . Look up the z fold 6 prototypes
I think I have the same problem as you, when I use certain applications that don't fit very well in the horizontal position, I get a white or black bar on the left of the screen, which is very annoying. I've found a solution to this problem, but it doesn't work for all applications. The hardware is great but I think this phone lacks software optimization. Does the Google assistant work in the Chinese rum I'm sure it works in the global ROM? For example in the Chinese rum can you use a gesture to ask Google to set a reminder.
what about the notifications on Apps ...Everyone said the Chinease versions either delayed or some of them you won't get a notifications

- First answer (2 week ago) = A big update will be implemented end of january (And Google Service will be include inside like you say in your video)
- Second answer received yesturday = Update is now postone to end of february...
I loved my Honor Magic V2 Chinese rom. The only negative for me was no macro video mode. I make a lot of Instagram reels of small coins & artefacts I find metal detecting. The I Phones do this perfectly. I’d be happy to know if any of the other folds like the One Plus Open offer a macro video mode with auto focus? Thanks for another good video Mike 😎👍

Again....nothing is missed in AD channel's product reviews, ..and the Global v Chinese rom argument is always detailed and broken down on the channel, A great video would be AD installing a Global rom on a Chinese Honor V2, if this is a possibility?
Saw a video of someone installing a global Oxygen OS rom on a Chinese OnePlus 12 which had a Color OS rom. I'm assuming you can also download the global rom of this phone to one which has the Chinese rom.

Great comparison. I'll think I'll stick with my Chinese ROM unit. Not enough extra on the global ROM to warrant the extra cost I'd have to pay out even after selling the Chinese one. Thank you for making up my mind 👍🏻

Hello Mike. The T-mobile roaming feature is not working outside the US with my Chinese ROM V2. T-Mobile says the phone is the issue. Can this be patched? Thank you for your insightful videos!
Average dad your a man of your word. I have a question. You can only have ONE main phone for the next 2 years. Honor v2 (£1,199) or oneplus open (£1,439). Which one you choosing? (iv watched your v2 vs oneplus open but still can't decide)
at those prices... the V2! they are so close at the top
And another question concerning the Windows mobile connexion (to have access from windows to android phone) :
On my chinese V2, It's not working because my phone (Microsoft can't connect to my phone when it will be used outside from china...)

Mike, thank you for your video. Can you verify a difference between the both please : Your European version have the an eSIM card option available ? (Honor web site information = Wifi 6 + eSIM card) and in the chinese version, it's Wifi 7 without eSIM card. In my side, I have one V2 from china buy in january, end I don't have eSIM ... (and no Google services.... horrible !!!!)...

Not so. The pen/stylus is lacking tons of features in the Global variant.

I'm glad i just kept it in my basket, reading comments that auto rotate isn't working properly. Great prototype, ill hold off until its cheaper in cex and i'll just use store credit instead.
My next business write off might be the mi fold 4 or the next one plus.

My global V2 is actually better than my Fold 4 on OneUi6 for screen rotation.
I would say multitasking is a little limited. As some have said, not all apps support horizontal split.
I did find earlier today that I couldn't multitask "Settings" alongside a food delivery app, but it was easy enough to use gestures to switch apps.

What about the yoyo assistant? I don’t think that works in English, probably not even the new magicos 8 version with ai will. Also, those cool widgets that honor shows with the plane ticket, the train time or the package information? I would love them but no reviewer are showing them, making me think they’re only on the Chinese rom. Thanks!
That's right. Yoyo speaks only in chinese, so we can't use it. We can choose other assistant like google or copilot but i have to figure out how to launch them. Those magic tricks of AI for calling a car or use a calendar are just fantastic, for an expat are lifesaver

You said in an earlier review vs the oneplus open that you can't split apps horizontally, e.g., have youtube landscape on one half and another app on other half. This still true?
did i?? this is a problem with Chinese ROM phones usually... the open has always been able to split horizontally... now the V2 global does too

AD - would have liked to see more detailed use of multitasking (since it's a foldable and all) and perhaps have you digging into some of the advanced settings you've found useful.
Sure you don't want to get too niche, but if these vids remain superficial they become generic (in my opinion).

Have you checked out the Honor Magic VS2? As far as I can tell it's the same body and build but older chipset and specs at a lower price?
I have the Vs2 alongside the V2. It feels lighter in the hand and has ever-so-slightly different dimensions (slightly shorter, slightly wider). The slower chipset is definitely noticeable.
Oh OK thanks. I went ahead and got the V2 on a Chinese new year sale and it was definitely worth it. If you never opened the inner screen it would be a very good very snappy phone with a great screen, tons of storage and ram, etc but way too expensive. But when you factor in the amazing inside screen and how thin and light it is, it's just nuts.

I believe the supported bands are different between Chinese and global services. That is a physical difference and the main reason it took them so long to release the global version.
A big difference is the 16GB + 1TB variants (either the ridiculously expensive Porsche model or the more decent Ultimate Edition) is only available in China and both are not available (officially) internationally.
I got the 16GB + 1TB Ultimate Edition from a Seller who bought it in China and decides to offload it when he came over. As the Honor Magic V2 is a Google Play Certified model, I just need to do a one-time sideloading of the Google Play Store APK file and the rest is a walk in the park:
Gmail? Checked!
Google Maps? Checked!
EVERYTHING else in the Google Play Store? Checked, Checked, and Checked!
Does the global version do away with the frustrating Chinese symbols and lettering on the keyboards? For those of who doesn't use Chinese / Mandarin it makes the keyboard very busy & confusing! TIA

Can easily instlite play store and all google Apps and services plus you may get faster software upgrades but try to delete a lot of chinase apps

Will it be possible to install a Global ROM on the China version in the future?
That depends on two prerequisites:
a) Unlocking the boot loader (which is not possible as Honor does not provide the unlock codes)
-> that is required to flash other roms in general if they are not signed properly (digital certificate)
or
b) having a global rom that is signed with the same certificate as the one used on the Chinese version
-> that would allow to flash the global rom
But independent of that it would require a download link for the global rom. And Honor pretty much locked down there servers so you can´t figure it out easily.
Somebody would need to share the direct link ....
I am also a software developer and the more I see this stupidity the more I have to say they have to change their software distribution. Make it possible to have one ROM that can be changed with tap (preferably linked to the location setting) to change between a chinese or global version. Yeah I know Android Auto and some settings need to be changed and yeah the changes sometimes are that big that it does not make sense to have both variants installed in one ROM. But then make it at least downloadable. Honor has the ability to also install systems apps and replace chinese with global or vice versa if necessary. That would be the best solution and most convenience for the customers.
Its not only Honor also Xiaomi, Oppo and others need to do this imho. It also would make it easier for the manufacturer to test stuff.

I have android auto and my phone can connect with Samsung galaxy watch classic 4 (it wants a chinese Samsung account bcose the laws) and garmin vivoactive 3. For Samsung Didn't try out of china if it still wants a chinese account.

Oh there are a lot more things that are not the same.
First of all:
You can not change Honor Board with Google Discovery (swiping right to get the Google News shown)
Secondly:
You can not change the launcher
Third:
You can not enable the Google Location History
There is more, but it is not like you could not live with the Chinese room.
Oh and I forgot one thing:
Chinese version does support VoLTE, but it does not support WLAN calls (Voice over Wifi). And this one can be annoying at times if you have bad mobile reception as you can not do your phone calls using a local WLAN.....

There is no WiFi calling on Chinese FYI. Had I known I would not have purchased. Epic fail.

Do you have the GMS update? you had to apply for it! if you did not then you have to use GBOX and Gspace..... download the APK files from websites. as i said... i made a full 20 minute setup video recently

The only reason I want global rom is to get Mobvoi health app to work so I can update my Ticwatch pro 3 GPS to wear os 3 to get whatsapp working on the watch.
Mobvoi health app dont work on chinese roms if its wear os 3. Ticwatch with wear os under 3 works fine beacuse it doesnt need Mobvoi health app.

Honor Magic V2 512gb is disgrace for this price and no 1TB for Europe.
But Samsung Fold 6 with 1TB or 2TB for Europe will bring chinese phones to its knees.
