    I just received one of these from a friend for my birthday - it goes with me on every ride. One of those tools you hope you don't need, and you're really glad you've got it if you need it. Wolf Tooth has excellent gear and thanks for the review.

      Yeah man, it's a product you love to have but hope you don't need (unless you're helping a buddy on their bike HAHAHAHA)

  • @automotivedistributors9708

    I have been wanting to buy these since last fall and keep forgetting. I regret not buying it when I broke my derailleur hanger and couldn’t break my chain since I forgot my breaker at home.
    It’s definitely cool there are multiple tools in one, especially keeping the quick links from being loose in the pack.
    Wolf tooth makes some solid products I have all enjoyed. Plus these pliers come in different colors too.

      It's such a PITA opening a master link with a pair of standard pliers. Like I say in the video, it can be done, but what a bugger to do!!!

      I'll be keeping this in my backpack at all times. Since I work on bikes so much I might still buy a full size master link tool when working in the shop. If you only mess around from time to time then this bad boy is all you need :-)

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Před 6 lety

    I have tested it out, I liek this tool a lot, tyre lever is stiff, but I bet I own't be needing the tyre lever on the trail as often, if at all, but this is a smart tool.
    I break most tyre levers pretty fast, even park tool metal levers snapped, only lever I haven't snapped yet, is Crank brothers tyre lever, I will see how long this last,
    but the Wolf tooth is stiffest lever I have used, it works well.
    it does every thing well.
    I recommend it.

  • @mtbboy1993

    2:33 Tip: this is how I do it:
    step 1 put in the valve stem, step2 Loctite 243 step 3 pliers of your choice to tighten until there is no movement. I haven't had a loose valve stem since I have done that.
    This method works well, pliers is also a must-have item.
    The silly thing is that manual on some packaging say don't use pliers.
    But this is a nice product, several tools in one.

    • @rdunk77
      @rdunk77 Před 6 lety

      Is loctite not a bit excessive? Wouldn't it make it more awkward to remove the valve if you need to stick a tube in while you're out riding?

  • @Durwood71

    Of course there is some debate about whether or not you should use a metal tire lever. It will, at the very least, mar and possibly dent a metal rim, and it will almost certainly crack a carbon rim.

  • @uncheel527
    @uncheel527 Před 5 lety +1

    I was initially thinking this would be a great tool to have and was about to purchase one, but I can't really think of a scenario where you would use this tool on a ride. Can you? If you break a chain, you're gonna need a chain breaker. If you break a derailleur, you'll need to shorten up your chain, and thus need a chain breaker as well. Can anyone think of a field fix that would require you to open up your master link?

    • @pawelwityk1963
      @pawelwityk1963 Před 4 lety

      Had the same thoughts exactly. Only time it could come in hand is when needing to replace a masterlink if damaged or broken somehow but this can also just be done without the tool by just craking on the pedal and braking to click the master link in place so its not really a necessary tool at all.

    • @Durwood71
      @Durwood71 Před rokem +1

      I can think of two scenarios:
      First, if your chain slips and gets jammed somewhere in the drive train, it can sometimes be necessary to separate it in order to pull it loose. In that case, you might need to pop the master link, assuming, of course, that it happens to be accessible. Sure, you can break the chain at any point and then use a master link to secure it, but why not avoid using a master link until you really need it?
      The other scenario is locking a master link into place by pulling the plier handles outward. I know you can do it by putting the link into place at the top of the chain and then cranking down on the pedals, but I had it happen once where in the process of climbing up onto my bike, one of the master link pins jiggled loose, and I ended up only fastening it on side and bending the opposite plate outward. Securing the master link with a tool avoids that admittedly rare eventuality. But then, we only carry tools with us on the trail for rare eventualities, so I don't see that as an argument against.

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Před 6 lety

    I ordered one, but I also need a new multi-tool, I don't want to carry more than one., Lezyne or crank brothers probably, but the knife on the Lezyne scares me, so probably crank brothers m19.

      Johannes Nilsen You know I'm a fan of the m19 :-)

  • @jonmarshall1502
    @jonmarshall1502 Před 6 lety +2

    I carry a length of string in my pack to break the link. Cheaper, lighter and easier.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  Před 6 lety

      How does that work? Do you thread it around the link and just tighten it with a stick or something to collapse the master link?

    • @jonmarshall1502
      @jonmarshall1502 Před 6 lety +1

      Regular Guy Mountain Biking I think Seth used a shoelace but I used a piece of Venetian blind cord coz it’s light and strong.
      I put it around both ends of the quick link and pull the two ends towards each other, and the link goes pop! It’s so easy . No need to carry another tool around in my pack. Try it, you will be surprised how easy it is.

    • @rgmtb

    Neat product Gene. Do you get a cut if we buy through the Amazon link above? If not, I will order from WolfTooth and get the grey one. But if you get a small %, then I don't mind helping ya out.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  Před 6 lety +1

      I do get a small cut if you buy via Amazon. That being said, it's not enough money for me if you're not getting the one you want. Sure I would appreciate the help, but please make sure you're happy. That's way more important to me, honest!

    • @aldenwilkins
      @aldenwilkins Před 6 lety

      Eh, for something that will sit in my pack, the color really does not matter. If you get enough to pay for the air you put in your tires, all the better. LOL
      On Amazon, the picture says it does not include the master links and I just checked Wolf Tooth's site, and it says the masterlinks are not included either. Just FYI.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  Před 6 lety

      geeluker1 baby That's a fair statement. I do think this product would be part of the repair process. Would you agree? Plus, depending on the break it could do the full repair. Again, your thoughts? I'm always open to your opinion on these videos and thank you for them!

      I'll make a video on that for you :-) In the meantime I do have one on how to replace your chain that you might like. czcams.com/video/otQ1znfbbwU/video.html

    • @michaeldoyle3320
      @michaeldoyle3320 Před 6 lety

      Cool that sounds great. Can you fix the chain with that Tool if it breaks?

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  Před 6 lety

      Totally! Normally when a chain breaks it's because a link finally breaks. You know the old saying "A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link". Since the tool has extra links in the handle you can just replace the broken link with one of the master links.

    • @flyinpig
      @flyinpig Před 6 lety +2

      When a chain breaks it's usually one pin that separates from the inner and outer plates not both. This tool is great for master link removal and storage, but if you need to press out the second pin in the damaged link you are out of luck without a traditional chain tool or replacement chain that has been cut to the correct length.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  Před 6 lety

      Very good point. A chain breaker tool should be in your pack regardless of having the Pack Pliers. A good multi tool will have one. Check out my review on the Crank Brothers m19 czcams.com/video/EpxBCF5RH3c/video.html
