  • Today I am organizing my next breeding group and inserting CIDRs, a device silimar to a human IUD for results similar to birth control. They are in for 12 days only, to stop the ewe's cycle, and when I pull them out, the ewes should all begin to cycle together on the same day. This helps me in 5 months when the ewes start lambing. I know when they will start, and finish and plan life around that.

    You do so many things by yourself, really amazing!
    At the same time, I also saw that although CIDR is very expensive, it is very convenient and fast to use.

    I wish I could clean the CIDR applicator for you :)
    It's interesting that the rams all live together without being territorial or fighting. Even when I see them with the ewes, they don't seem to be particularly competitive.
    Terminal line?

    Hello Sandy, how are you? I'm Mishaal, one of your followers and fans. Thank you for your effort. I want to ask you, is the use of Cedar very effective and can I rely on it in setting up a model project for meat production or not?

    After inserting CIDR, i prefer to conceive the ewe by using endoscopy rather than mating with a ram.

    Hi! I am binge watching and fascinated with your vlog! A
    Question I have on the previous vlog and this. It looked like there was a mixture of sheared, and not sheared, to my untrained eye. I apologize if you already explained.

      I do not 100% understand Your question but these scheep are shorn like 7 weeks before expected delivery, as ewes pregnant are divided in 3 groups over the Year, there are differences in wool cover.

    Terminal breed?

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  Před 6 lety +14

      Keith Brettell are you asking what is a terminal breed? Basically, a breed that gives off more market-type traits. So heavy-muscled, fast growing genetics off certain breeds. Some breeds are more 'maternal' meaning they throw off genetics like ease of birth, milk production, prolificacy. So I use that type of ram for replacement stock, and a terminal trained ram for my market lamb stock.

    how many females per ram in 1 day?

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  Před 6 lety +3

      Reinaldo Fernandez I have been running 5 females to one ram on this CIDR program. In the past I’ve left the rams in for 21 days to catch two heats. This past month I’ve actually changed my program and only ran rams in for 4 days then removed them.

      Hello, good night and sorry for bothering her. when I use the cider and I take it off after 10 or 12 days that I have to wait for the sheep and if you do not have to eat anything else thanks

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  Před 6 lety +1

      I take the CIDR out on day 12, then add the rams 12-24 hours later, or sometimes that same day depending on my schedule.

    Could you rent rams for stud fees, like dogs, kind of?

    • @janepipkin8139
      @janepipkin8139 Před rokem

      I like your thought process there and the question. One of my thoughts is that Sandi’s other videos present a lot of information about all she does to keep her herd healthy and disease free. So wouldn’t that process be a risk to the rams and also the entire herd if any disease exposure? I do understand from watching her videos that whole herds may have immunity to certain stuff but not different stuff and/or variants. Hey, does anyone do AI with sheep yet like they do with horses?
