I Bought A 2024 KTM 300 XC-W TBI (First Impressions)

- After a year of trail riding kids bikes I decided it was time to get back on a smoker. With the introduction of Throttle Body Injection in 2023, I patiently waited for KTM to bring it to the EXC / XC-W model. Thankfully a year later we finally have it and I just so happened to get my hands on one thanks to the good people over at @AOMC
Having skipped the entire TPI generation of bikes I think you will be surprised to hear my thoughts on the new TBI model. I absolutely loved my 2018 which was the last year the XCW came with a carburetor, and with the '24 supposedly being a 90% "new" design, I guess I was expecting a bit more.
Regardless of my "seat of the pants" diagnosis, this dirt bike is a fantastic machine that I look forward to racking up some hours on and beating myself up in the woods.

Good to see an honest first review from someone who isn't a pro or elite rider. I think it's easy to get caught up in the hype of a new bike when they are reviewed by riders who can actually tell a major difference. I can't afford a new bike, nor do I ride at a level where I could really tell the difference between my new to me 2018 300XC and a 2024 model. I'm just thrilled to have a bike with e start. lol
Exactly I’ve been look at a 2023 300xcw for 7999 and I know the 2024 is extremely better on all levels but I am not going to spend 12999+ for something I can’t really tell the difference because I don’t ride at a level to tell the difference in older bikes to newer bikes
@@richyrob45just get a new YZ250X. E start is over rated
I have spent over a thousand on KTM starter issues. I'm ready to go back to kick starter
@@fattie2550 after getting my first bike with e start, I would never go back. For an intermediate rider it’s a day saver on technical terrain where the bike is constantly being shut off. Fortunately my bike has a kick start as well.
@@daviddeming8102 I’ve got E Start also and it’s definitely nice.
I'm so here for the man in the van that pulled up and instantly did a one wheel peel. MY GUY
also, congrats on the beautiful bike. Enjoy it!
Gotta have fun!!! 😁🤘
That honk made me jump pretty good 😂
Dudes a party on wheels
@@TheOutsideDev me too. I was waiting for the diff to let go on that one wheel peel.
Aww, man, here we go! Good luck. Excited to see you have fun with this one!
Congrats man! Glad you like it. I’ve been thinking of going the 2 stroke enduro route, but not sure I’m ready. Only have had two dirt bikes a crf230 and now the wr250r dual sport. I’ll definitely stay tuned for more KTM content. Enjoy!
Finally! I was waiting for this moment! Can wait what you do with the bike! I have a 2022 xc 300 tpi and i love it! ❤️
More to come for sure! Thanks for tuning in!
Crazy to hear you’re not blown away. Crf300L is my first and only current bike. I’m a amateur at best but like the slow speed stuff. New suspension and re-geared to 14-45. Just took it up the “most difficult” trail full of boulders and loved every second of it 😂. I’m in inwood wv let’s ride together sometime!
Beautiful machine Tanner! Congrats! Good to see Tilley again.
Thank ya! I’m glad to be back out riding with Tanner again!
finally honest review on 24 300 ... I was about ready to trade my 22 300 in based on all rave reviews I kept hearing on 24's... you saved me thousands... THANKS
A very, very good review and So detailed and easy to understand. THANKS!!
“It’s a kabota” lol I love it. I picked one up about a month ago but been recovering from an injury, I can’t wait to ride it a little before snowfall here in Maine ! Love the videos man
Great video Tanner. We appreciate you over at @AOMC !
Thanks Ryan, happy to help represent AOMC!
Hell yeah!!!! Congrats on the new whip
Appreciate it! 👊🏻
Congrats Tanner !
Thanks for posting. I resonate and have the same comments about really liking the 2017-2018 but not being interested in and skipping the TPI generation. Once TBI was announced, I was waiting for it to land on the XC-W line. Will keep watching to see what riders have to say.
I have 2019 TPI, zero issues and imo the only good year for them, I'm skipping ever since and will be skipping this 2024 as well, since KTM for sure will have some circus with them, need to wait for aftermarket to catch up and it's simply ugly.
Heck yes bro! Killin it! Lovin the bike!
Thanks man! 👊🏻 more to come!
Great review ,the front fender ,and them hand flags are ridiculously huge
Beautiful bike! 💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻
class video this mate, well enjoyed it 7
Nice addition to the channel! I still miss the kx100 vids tho :(
I'm 54 (we have 250F's as well. They're bulletproof) Love my 23' XCW 300 (including the front fender) best bike I've ever owned. Road a 24' the other day and it's the best motor and chassis KTM has ever produced imo. Be psyched to grab one in a few years. Def the first person that thought it was "eh"
It’s about time! Got to mix it up every once in awhile! So glad I added a te300i to my Hondas last year.
You can’t beat them in the woods. The tbi suppose to be a lot better than tpi and I’ll likely upgrade at some point.
Enjoy that beast!
Like your buddies Norden. I’ve got over 3100 miles on my Norden 901 Expedition and love it! A good ADV and a two stroke are all a man needs! And at least one CRF of course! 🏍️💨
Edit-“I’m not Billy Bolt, I’m Hillbilly Bolt” nice one Tanner 🤣 I’m using that!
Thanks Lukefish, good to see you still tuning in! Definitely can't argue ya with you there haha
Owned KTM carb, several TPIs, and own a 23 300XC TBI now. The XC TBI is by far my favorite Ktm to date. Not even close
Finally! He's back!!!
Great to see enjoy it
Now I see why Tilliy isn't on the kdx anymore! Congrats on the new bikes!
a very sobering and honest view ,,, thanks , well done ;;
I have 2019 TX300 and it only weighs 217lbs. I put a lectron carb on it and its amazing. I bought it brand new for $10,000 and some change.
Well done man, takes balls to be honest after spending that kind of money. I raced at state expert level and have ridden/owned pretty much everything and I'm happiest on my Honda 250x (with mx ergo's) I love reading the constant revisions to the KTM's and get a little excited but then I ride them back to back with someone's 25 year old CR and I prefer that.
Proper bike!
Dude! You’re in my neck of the woods!
Love hearing about the 250f in comparison. I have a TE250 and am considering a 250f to train on.
They are both really great bikes but ultimately are still set up for different kinds of riding. There are just some things that the power of the 250F would not be capable (or fun) on but in general is a great bike to master basic skills on.
I just got the 2024 GasGas EC300, and love that thing. I was riding a 2022 EX350F for two years and needed more low end power. What the 350 did well, the 300 does great! I agree with your thoughts on the suspension, certainly much more plush. Not that the 350 was a bad set up, but glad I made the switch, especially for the riding trails around here.
Hey man nice that you included the 250f in your comparison, here in my country a ktm weapon is really financially salty, the 250f not so much really obtainable. Good trails, enjoy the bike.
I’ve never been on a dirt bike but rode BMX, mountain, and then sport bikes for years. I’m afraid I’ll fall in love.
I am glad I waited. This bike lugs in the bottom end so good. I've ridden my buddies 300 TPI and the TBI is very noticeably better at low rpm.
First review that really wasn't trying to just sell me the newest ktm. I appreciate that! But I am hoping to see some upcoming content with the ktm and beta on some tough stuff!!!
Sweet bike! It seems like that ‘24 has a lower, bassy note on camera compared to the previous models.
Is nice to see purple on a bike again. Haven't see that since the KLXs from the 90s 😊
I know! Definitely my favorite colorway in many years!
Nice review! I hate the shrouds a lot more than the fender so I bought a Husky.
These are the times where a man feels like a man!! Hopping on a new shiny ktm and that smell of the pipe starting to turn blue, thank you brother for allowing us to come along on your good day. Now go put on some damn pants and safety gear. Lol
Ronnie Mac that front Finder 😂 🪚
I own a 24 300 xcw and I rode it side by side with an 18 250 xcw last weekend. They’re night and day. The throttle response on the 300 alone makes it worth it. Ride them on the same day and you’ll get a clearer picture!
Does the 24 xcw feel much heavier then the 18?
Very nice, i've been drooling over this bike.
The HardEnduro version is over 15k here, i'll have to keep riding my KDX for the next 20 years or so lol.
KDX’s are nice, I love old two strokes but a KTM XCW is not even in the same planet. This is a professional level hard enduro bike.
I got one last week. Congrats. 24 300 xcw.
I also have a 21 W. Had a 17 W from new.
That’s awesome! How would you compare the 17 to the 24. I have a 17 300 and I’m wondering if it’s worth jumping to a 24 or not
Damn that’s a nice bike - I wanna see more Norden content
As somebody who rode with guys with the TPI's, I've seen a lot of issues so I waited and I'm glad I did because so far, theses bikes are proving to be way more reliable.
There’s no way I can buy a 13k bike that’s gonna need more money right away in protective parts, so I’m damn tempted to just buy a 22 or 23 TPI. I don’t think I can wait another 1-2 years for the 24 to come down in price. Seems like plenty of people have great luck with the newer TPI, but there are those that don’t
@badcompany1313 Carry an extra crank case pressure sensor if you get a tpi. It's not very fun when they crap out in the middle of the mountains when your 10 miles from the truck. Getting my friends' bike back ruined the whole day.
awesome bike. You are so much better than a C class rider, you have excellent balance and clutch/throttle control. Come do an EROC race with us sometime!
Buddy, in the van!!! I would’ve never noticed, but the front fender does look like a pelican/ toucan beak from head on. Like some kind of angry Disney bird. Sorry, just sayin. I have a new 2023 Beta 300 RR after four Yamaha WR 450’s and it is a revelation! I have no doubt you are going to love that bike and it is probably the first KTM that I would ever own but I’d have to take a lot of ribbing from my friends if I bought one. Cheers and thanks for the great video!
Sick bike homeboy! Great choice.. funny how quickly brand new dirtbikes start looking like older well loved dirt bikes. That's why i stopped buying brand new dirtbikes.
So cool, you went past my road, and then past my college (Marshall University- Huntington,WV). First video I’ve watched on your channel. Coincidence……I think not. I’m also an Ohioan. Are these Wayne National Forest trails?
Hell yeah
Hell yeah! Come out to Idaho and lets rip some single!
So down! Need a west trip with this one for sure!
looks like it has more than enough power that's for sure
I just picked up the 2024 husky 300 pro, apparently I'm first one in New Jersey to get one.
Appreciate the video.
You aren't "blown away" by the new suspension?
Lucky!
Hello Tanner, great information and video thanks. where in the States are you? Looked like some nice trails. From sunny UK 🙈
Hey from overseas! Thanks for tuning in - were in the midwest currently!
Probably keep my mint '18 300 xcw with lots of goodies then.
Cool video! One question: what's the brand of these fancy pants? Love them (besides the bike)
I have a 2017 250 xcw and looking to pick one of these up soon! I’m worried I’m going to miss the carb though lol
Hi Tanner, great video, I understand your not blown away by the 2024 is it the mild manner of the motor, is it a little more tame then you expected, do you think the XC would have been a better choice, I heard that the general consensus is that the XC-W is very nice but tame. I’m certain a lot of riders would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Either way man enjoy the beautiful ride,
Thank you Stephen! Power is fine honestly it is more about traction anyways and you are right that's why they make the XC, I guess I was just expecting a much bigger difference overall from my '18.
I actually really like the front fender and wish they would have done something similar years ago.
Curious to see how much you will ride the 250f now? Just finished my Bruce suspension front/rear. Strange being on a bike meant for my weight!
She's a BEAUT Clark! A BEAUT!
Didn’t see this coming
Keeping my 2018 carb'd 250 xcw forever. However, I did recently ride a 2023 TPI Husqvarna and it was so much smother in every way. I'm much more a fan of the concept f TBI over TPI though
Looks like the redesigned pipes are smaller giving more useable torque at the bottom !
I'd like to see you get an old school trail bike like a Honda XR400R or any XR-R series bike
Same but the CRF250f is pretty much an XR250r with e-start
@cooganbeggs4942 True, but I think the XR-R series is the better trail/play bike because it's as simple and basic as they come, and there are more size options. I am too big for the 250f and 250r. The 400r with a couple of small mods should be the right size for me, engine and bike size. The 650r is probably to much bike for a beginner rider like me. I'm 6'10" 255lbs I need a big bike lol
@@travisbarr5367 Can’t comment about how good the 250f is because I haven’t ridden one but our boy here raves about his and I just watched a vid the other day saying its just like the XR but with fuel injection and estart. Id get one in a heart beat if they could be road registered in my country. I do own an XR250r for off road and its an absolutely unstoppable beast, particularly with Gordons mods. I imagine the 400 would be a beast too. I don’t like too much power in the trails. Your a biggy brother, I reckon a 600 could be struggling under you!
Ktm should be giving you bikes by now lol. You are literally the reason why so many are putting $ on the 24 300 including myself as I didn't want a tpi being honest.(Husqvarna i get cheaper also however the Erzbergrodeo is on my bucket list lol.) You only live once & unlike wine, your health doesn't improve with age. Stay safe brother
Where were you riding? That place looks awesome!
Couldn’t agree more with your TPI vs TBI observations. My concern is how the rear of the piston on a TPI gets lubricated properly. Just air hitting it from the intake through the reeds!? It’s no surprise they went back to TBI. I guess euro regs may have been initially responsible for TPI. I’m surprised you were able to get your hands on a new 2024. It’s going to grow on you the more you ride it. Cheers from north eastern Ontario Canada!
Not air, but air with oil - the oil input from the pump is to the intake. Only gasoline is injected.
But it is true that if the piston is attached to the TPI, it is usually always on the intake side.
I have TPI in EU - it literally came with two pipes - one to pass the technical inspection, another to ride.
Didn’t age well 😂. The 23/23 TBI are having issues during high revs. Supposedly the rear of the piston is contacting the crank. Thousands of cases unfortunately…Kymco cylinders prolly didn’t help things either.
bring the 24 to hillsville or wellsville!
man that sandwich look good save me some!!
You should try an EXCF350 (not sure what they call it in the USA), if you like the 4T. I’ve got an FE250 after owning a TE150 and love it. Little tractor.
Feeling good! Might go drop $12,000 on a new bike. 😎👍🏻 Have you ever thought about getting a Rekluse clutch? I’ve heard it helps with slow riding. I guess you aren’t supposed to be able to flame out with one. 🤷🏼♂️
Sweet bike! Where did you get your bike hitch carrier?
I agree with you the cable clutches when setup right are better than the hydraulic clutches.
four stoke power delivery is way different than two strokes. the softer suspension of 250f will allow you to get traction pretty much anywhere. The 300 is more of a torque runner compared to any 250. Wring out the 300 like a 250 and you will be using brakes alot.
likely to end in tears but let us know , rack up some reving hrs !
Bro got the 2024 version before 2024 was released
😅🤪
2017/18...best xc ever made
First mods, luciolo and v33s gummy.
I’m looking for a first bike in my adult life. Plenty of street bike time though. Was looking at a newer 350 xcf or xcfw. Had not considered 300xcw. What for you like better about the 2t? Thanks
What tractors better, this or the x trainer? im inly 5'8 and only ride hard single track. Currently on a XR250
I wish we had and could ride in woods here. You can only drive on-road
Ronnie Mac can fix that front fender for you!
I recently sold my 2 stroke to get into a 4 stroke. I definitely miss the power at times. The KTM 300 really tickles something inside me...
What 4 stroke did you go with? I have a 2020 300 xc tpi and I am always keeping the 350 excf in my head..
Sips fuel. Could one got 50 miles on the stock tank? Thanks for the excellent review, I have wanted one of these for a long time but will drive the 250 X-C W as well for comparison.
Absolutely! I'll have to do a fuel range test soon. Really depends on the style of riding.
They need to put a betting system in for hpw long his bikes last before he replacing them. I reckon 15 months
How does the 2024 300xcw feel weight wise compared to the 300 tpis? Can you feel the extra weight difference?
@ 82 years old I just bought a new 23 KTM 300 XC-W Erzbergrodeo, big difference from my old 011 KTM 200...no more gas mix and e-start, make my day, the low-end grunt factor is awesome with these 300's and with an eye bleedin' top speed too.
I just spanked my new Katoom on the Gas up an 18 mi dirt road with 15 switch backs to the 10,500' elev. top of a Mesa...think Pikes Peak.course.
Gotta love that one finger Brembo front brake, and easy adjusting suspension right out of the create...Old retired riders never die, they just make it easier for us to live longer because it's so much fun. czcams.com/video/ChfSu9bcz4Q/video.html

In your narrative when you wrote “After a year of trail riding kids bikes....” were you referring to the Honda crf250f as that bike a kids bike?
TBI is a great motor but Im selling mine, I only get 45 miles on a tank and the location of the fuel pick up is not ideal. Yes I can run a big tank and get 60 or so, but still pretty weak! Other reason is the chassis is rigid. I was shocked after jumping back to my 23xcw how plush the chassis is!
I'm Holding Out for a 350 cc 2t Enduro because I need a little bit more power.
Which map do you prefer, the mellow or aggressive?
How do you wheelie it on such terrain? My backwheels just spins everytime I barely step one the gas.
Crazy on how dirt bikes are 10k plus now uh days.
That's where I Baugh mine
Good folks!
im not a fan of the mx 33 front but there isnt a better tire to do everything with than the at 81 rear
