- The Holiday Inn hotel in Blackpool Town Centre opened on May 1st 2024. The hotel is part of the huge Talbot Gateway project, which also contains the new tram station.

The trams start on the 12th June (specially invited trips for local people), full passenger services start on 16th June from what I've read.
I've entered a lottery to be on the first tram.

That is a lot of staff for the size of that property, hope they know staffing levels will be reduced once its settled in and all teething problems are solved, Good luck to them all

I might have a stay at that hotel although I usually try to avoid chain hotels I'd rather support the smaller independent hotels

Get your room quick whilst it's clean and free from low lifes. At least it won't have roaches yet 😂. I love the old Blackpool Transport colours on the Leyland Olympian. Harks back to good memories of Leyland PD2 and the heritage trams .❤

857 is a 1987 vintage ECW bodied Leyland Olympian that originally operated for London Buses. It would be converted to open top for the City Sightseeing operation which, in Blackpool, was franchised out to Blackpool Transport. When City Sightseeing pulled out, Blackpool Transport kept the bus for Private Hire & Special events.
D was 1985 as F was 1988 it was my first car I passed my test in it 😮

Fantastic. Scenes like this make it hard to believe it’s not in Las Vegas or Monte Carlo. Just imagine the scenes if it had been a new Travelodge opening, or a Poundland. And they’d have Taylor Swift cutting the ribbon if it was a new Greggs.

Generally quite expensive hotels are Holiday Inns.They should have got Alf Roberts or Len Fairclough to open it or what about Benny from Crossroads!The most interesting Holiday Inn on Earth is the one in Beirut, Lebanon which is a big skyscraper and has stood empty since the civil war.
The bus is a Leyland Olympian. I rode on it at last years Morecambe Ribble bus rally up to Carnforth and back.

Blackpool 857 (D257FYM) isn't even an old Blackpool bus. Was new in 1987 to London Buses and is a Leyland Olympian with ECW bodywork.
Jack aka David Platt is more used to hair cutting scissors in Corrie 😊

I'll definitely use it. No brand confidence in the small guest houses. Places like this provide hope for the town.
A mix of both is good, but at least you know the Holiday Inn will be consistent standard that you cannot guarantee with the B&B's.

According to DVLA website this vehicle was 1st registered registered in February 1987.

Yup ..I live in Layton Blackpool Stephen and I decided to stay in it on the night of opening may 1st '24
My neighbours laughed at me this morning getting out of my friends car with my pull along holdall ..
Asking me did I go away to somewhere exotic?
Answering "The holiday inn"
Which had them baffled..
"Whereabouts ?"
The new Blackpool one!"
They couldn't contain themselves..😂
A twenty minute walk away .
Oh well they don't understand what it means to place a mark in history and be one of the first to stay there
Besides It gave me a break from my two up two down semi and a good excuse for not doing my chores 😂
Met some lovely people *Jordan Freya And Shay * ( not sure of his spelling)
Also everything that could go wrong went wrong ..
Firstly they double booked my room
Secondly I think I might have set off the fire alarm ..as we all had to evacuate the hotel at 11.15pm and I was touching things I wasn't supposed to .
And come the morning I was first to use the toaster at breakfast ? And it wouldn't brown the bread!
The bread came out as bread!!
An hour later it was finally fixed ..but it has to come in three's doesn't it?
I was given a guided tour at 4.30 in the morning as I was too hot to sleep.. ..plus first ever to sit in the VIP room
I also think I damaged the gyms tablet computer thingy..as it wouldn't shut down after I pressed several buttons ..
The same thing I was doing when the fire alarm went off ...
Just pressing buttons aiming to see how this and that works etc ...and that's when the fire alarm occurred
I'm a bloody liability! 😂

Just checked out the rates for a 4 night break starting Monday 10th June, £81 a night, you have to be a Hilton member but it’s free to join.
