Should be ranked by tonnage. This would include speedboats with guns as equivalent to a cruiser or aircraft carrier.

Fishing vessels are not warships, these numbers are highly inflated. Not to mention, both North korea and Russia's tank arsenal are cold war Era technology. Largest and most advanced airforce in the world belongs to the United States airforce, second largest airforce belongs to the United States navy

@MySTIC You don't send aircraft carriers into the heat of battle alone lol. They are heavily defended by multiple other ships and CARRY AIRCRAFT. Not to mention it would literally take a nuke to destroy one. They are HUGE. No torpedo or basic long range missle would do enough damage to sink one.
Some of you forgot that data, especially when it's a wrong data doesn't mean anything at all. For example UK and France navy were sailors since the beginning and have way more experience than Iran or Finland, plus the quality of the fleet is also an important thing to mention. I don't think a simple patrol vessel can rivalize with a propulsed nuclear aircraft carrier xD

Numbers are one thing but capability is another. A country might have 400 warships but the country that has 200 could be more advanced. If your opponents ships firing range is 200 miles, but yours is 400 miles... you know what to do.

I'm thinking the numbers are very misleading here. Are they counting a semi rigid inflatable with the machine gun as a warship, if so this might be accurate. This shows the US fourth on the list, and yet the US has by far, by orders of magnitude, the most Superior navel military force in the world.

For everyone mentioning the US mothballed fleet it’s size is only about 91 ships now and they are mostly logistics ships and not combat ships.
The actual numbers are off for a lot of countries.
I don’t think that the number of hulls/ ships is relevant. Size, capability, etc. have to be taken into account
Point of order, the Canadian numbers are incorrect, even counting unarmed training vessels we only have 40, the video creator is incorrectly counting land based training facilities
These facilities are named after historical ships and bear the same prefix as our ships (HMCS) oof
Add to this that Russia doesn't seem to ever retire their war ships till they are practically falling apart. So having a great number of vessels that are barely floating does not constitute strength. The US if you are looking at it that way, has a large number of ships that are decommissioned but are till viable if needed. China while having the largest Navy, is mostly made up of Patrol Class boats and not true destroyers or battle ships.

If this is a rank of strength and power then don’t you think the country that has more aircraft carriers and helo carriers than all the other countries combined plus spends more money on the next 9 countries combined be ranked higher than 4th?
The People's Liberation Army Navy has 355 front-line warships at least as large as a corvette. More than 400 if you also count small coastal and rubber boats as you did in this CG subterfuge.
The U.S. Navy by contrast, has 315 front-line warships. Supply, hospital, dinghies, fishing trawlers or tugs are not counted...
And most of China's ships can't even go into the ocean let alone cross it and that is why the Chinese fleet is called a Brown Navy. The ship are so poorly built they can't go but a couple of hundred miles from shore.

This is a fleet number comparison video. Not a strength comparison. If it was a strength comparison the US would be at the top of the list. Tonnage and firepower wise the US is the most powerful navy in the world.

@@jade7631 you really don't keep up on what the US military is building. The US has laser weapons that can destroy almost everything fired at it. The US also built a new radar that will detect any missile threat. We are building our own hypersonic missiles. We're building a 6th generation fighter craft for the air force, new helicopters, new destroyers, new frigates, etc. The US military doesn't need to build brand new stuff ever 5 to 10 years because we prefer quality over quantity, simple as that.

These numbers, i guess include the small Coast Guard ships,landing docls and non armed ships/speed boats,tankers,hospital,Cargo,etc...
In this present list,Portugal ranks 48* with 41 ships,thats correct,but in GFPower it ranks 34# with 107 ships after Vietnam with 109 ranks 33*.It maybe included all non armed ships,auxiliary,Oceanographic,Landing boats and speed boats.Pt Navy has 10000 Sailors,1500 are Marines,2500 Civilians in his shipyards and industries.Portugal plans until 2026 to build 9 Ships amd buy a new squad tanker.

Pretty sure you're purposely not showing the data by tonnage. Which is how you should be doing it. Bass Pro has a larger navy than China if you just count "any" boat.

This is a terrible list. It includes every floating boat as a "warship." If ranked by tonnage, the US would be #1, and China would have only 50% as much tonnage.

I just wanted to point out the title says fleet strength. In that sense, the representation is totally useless, as it doesn't take into account the type of ship or technology. The perfect example would be North Korea near the top of this list. They operate swarms of patrol boats no bigger than the size of small or medium privately owned fishing boat in other countries. Then they add a few North Korean sailors who are forced into service and largely don't receive any compensation besides somewhere to sleep and small meals resulting in malnutrition (particularly in the NK Army). Some of the boats may have a mounted machine gun, but even then with little or no ammunition, or literally just use the small arms (rifles) of the NK sailors.
@@michaelchipman1832 It has nothing to do with sensitivity, the list is simply terrible. No historian would ever compare WW2 navies using the number of landing craft, they'd use tonnage. Same goes for modern comparisons.

Were the Russian, China, and North Korean numbers doubled just to make them look better? Of course if you count the ships the US has in mothballs they out number China’s ragtag fleet. It only takes between 20 and 120 days to bring the ships out of mothballs and get them recommissioned. Or at least that’s the story the US Navy gives Congress. Note: The 11 air craft carriers in reserve would take considerably longer to recommission. You also might note that the U.S. does not count fishing vessels as military ships.

It all comes down to QUALITY not QUANTITY. For example just 1 US Navy Destroyer could take out 100 smaller vessels.

This is crap....... doesn't include tonnage. Does not even set tonnage minimum. Counts unusable mothballed junk. Let's be clear North Korea cannot handle USA Navy. I am a Canadian. I am very proud of our capable 4700 ton Halifax class frigates. Still, I do not see this being a situation where they need to be counted alongside our one commissioned wooden sailing ship with a deck too small for a full high school class.

@@2012slik Yes but when it comes to naval hardware quality beats quantity 100% of the time. U.S. Nimitz class carriers are far superior to all other carriers on the planet. Most of the other navies active ships are cold war or older tech. Effective yes, but it would be a slaughter if they tried to fight a more technologically advanced navy such as the U.S. . China and Russia are the only ones who may be able to compete but even their carriers are bath toys in comparison to American Carriers.

Only three true blue water navies there that can project serious hard power globally, France, U.K. and USA. With China still not having that capability yet. Canada, Australia, Denmark, Spain, South Korea, Japan and Italy all have very capable and powerful navies. Russia needs a serious upgrade on their surface fleet.

Someone mentioned the US mothballed fleet. The truth is the US mothballed fleet is probably larger than all of the other fleets combined and that's the mothballed ships. People really have no idea about things from this. The single largest entity on the planet is the American ( US) Military industrial Complex. FFS the US military rents more buildings then most other militaries have . That's not counting what they own. The US has a advantage and disadvantage by its location. Two oceans as defense. but to be powerful you have to have logistics mastered and that's what the US military does best. Ever since WW2.
