Once money, politics, media etc are involved I can see how the game can become a “Job” more than a “Loved hobby”. A high percentage of these guys have been playing the game so long with everyone around them noticing the talent immediately at young ages. Inconspicuously they start to push “NBA, NBA, NBA” into the players’ head never caring if they love the game or is doing it just to generate life altering money for loved ones that alone can kill the love of the game making it just another job just one with a large pay sum. Everyday they step on the court could be their last day of working in that field. It's their job to play ball. They've fought for this all these years, through AAUs and tryouts, HS and college. Like PG and DeMar said, they can feel who does not love the game. If a player only shines when his contract is about to be up, then he is just a bad professional. As much as the NBA and the media like to make it all seem like hard work and loving the game will get you to the NBA, the truth they don't tell kids is that if you don't have talent and size you're not going regardless of "love of the game" and "hard work beats talent". The most successful have love and competitiveness but plenty are probably still in the league on talent alone.

I feel like as the newer generation comes and Players are getting paid for everything they do, You can really see how people don’t love the game and you can tell who actually loves the game of ball. Kyrie Irving says he doesn’t Play basketball or watch basketball outside of the nba sometimes you can see that he doesn’t love the game, even tho he’s just so talented and naturally gifted, Ben simmions you can see that he doesn’t love the game. But players like Lebron, Giannis, Russ, Demar, Paul George, even Pat Bev you can tell they actually love the game of basketball cause of the chip they put themselves through. And I feel like the nba not penalizing players on certain shit just further ingrave that players don’t love ball like they claim they do. For example Ja morant who’s about to get damn near 200m, I feel like yeah he loved basketball until he become a superstar and got money now he wants to act up and do all this stupid shit, and It’s like If you really love basketball and understood that you can get kicked out the nba if you keep it up then you would know to stop

It's true & you can tell who those players are by watching them play. Regardless of their God-given talent, fans respect seeing a a player get as much as they can out of their gifts. Players used to realize that their $ comes directly from fans in the community (not from owners, even though they technically write the check). So players worked hard to do right by those fans. Michael Jordan when asked why he played hard, "it might be a young fans 1st time seeing me play, so I want to show them what I'm about." Effort was part of the responsibility that came with getting a dream job. However, if pride & effort cease to exist in this younger 'next gen' of players, then they risk the entire guaranteed pay for the NBA. Owners will not continue to guarantee salaries if this trend of young max players not caring continues. Injuries happen, slumps happen, losses happen. As a fan, we can live with it. But don't ask us to accept apathy. You wouldn't accept apathy from the guy who cooks your food to the mechanic who fixes your breaks to the surgeon who repairs your knee. Stakes are different in NBA, but the principal is not.

This is what's different about today's game vs. how it was in the nineties. Players today get paid so much money that the game becomes secondary. They become infatuated with living the LIFESTYLE that comes along with being a professional basketball player rather than being a professional basketball. Mansions and fancy cars and buying out the club has become way more appealing than leaving it all out on the hardwood. Meanwhile players back in the nineties didn't have all that. Sure they were making good money but it wasn't obscene like today. All they had was the game. If they lose they didn't have a private plane to take to their villa in Tuscany. They had a nice Range Rover and a fully paid-off house but their source of happiness was playing basketball. If they lost it hurt. And winning meant so much more to them
