The SWP has this on their site:
“The slave who murders the slave master, who torches the master’s house and perhaps kills the “civilian” slavers’ family and servants is wholly justified in their act”.
To give more context the writers are pointing out that the oppressed who are oppressed with violence and killing are allowed the same actions in return towards their oppressors. On the surface this makes sense, but I cannot understand the belief that killing children is justified in any way. I bring up children because in the above scenario the writers say that burning a family (which can easily include children, and the writers don’t state it’s a childless family) is justified. How is murdering children ever justifiable? Sincerely, how? This should never be okay. Ever. Both “slave” and “master” have a choice in how they mete out death, whether they will purposefully kill children or not. Did Hamas have to kill children? Did Israel have to kill children? Apparently Hamas did have to in the opinion of the writers of the above quote (again, assumption). Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they literally had no choice when they were killing adults. Same for Israel, no choice when killing in their retaliations. I just don’t see justifications for any child’s death. Maybe there are some arguable stances - certain life-threatening pregnancies? I don’t know. But is killing children in how it’s being done between Israel and Hamas the same as that aforementioned example?
Moving on to the other quote n the site:
“Our criticism is not that of detached observers. It’s because we want to see real victories over imperialism and the capitalist system that produces it. Overcoming the imperial might of states like Israel or the United States won’t happen just through military resistance or guerrilla tactics”.
Again I’m assuming but it seems that they are advocating for extreme violence in a revolution in the United States, one that I’m also assuming they will see as or act in as justified.
This is all my opinion. I’m not stating anything as absolute fact because I don’t know those in this organization or heaps of their planned goals or ideas, but the above two quotes don’t seem to have much nuance to them which is why they stood out so blatantly. If I’m incorrect in my opinion and immediate thoughts then that’s on me. I don’t think it rare for people to have irrational or rational sensitivities when the deaths of children, implied or not, are spoken or written about. Any road to any kind of peace will be bloody and maybe I’m too naive to think adults could do better in protecting children from violent deaths. And that’s just the thing, Israel and Hamas both know that their militant actions will cause more children and civilian deaths - but I guess they all see the deaths of their own children as justified, too.
