One of McCarthy’s most glaring flaws in my mind was that he did not want bipartisanship and considered the Democratic party as the Enemy-except when he desperately needed their help. It was entirely in line with his practices that he would bash them afterwards. I hate the divisiveness in U.S. Politics today, that only deprives the American people of good governance.
His character preceded his presence.
McCarthy can now walk silently into the night. His name will be remembered and forever laughed at for being the only speaker who was ousted by his own party because he doesn't belong there in the first place.
The Democrats could have saved him but he had to talk all kinds of trash about Democrats ON LIVE TV this past Sunday. For a politician, Kevin McDummy doesn’t know how to politics.
This whole thing makes me think the only difference between Congress and high school is that there is some adult supervision in high schools.
Unfortunately in a position like that you have to try and please everyone and if you do try that, you will please no one. It's better to just be blunt and tell people you don't like that you don't like them or their way of thinking and vice versa. I think the American people that lean to either side would appreciate that in a politician more than anything else.
You don't have to please everyone. You only have to please the majority. McCarthy could have ignored the fringe Republicans if he'd kept *most* of both parties happy. Instead he conducted a scorched Earth campaign against the Democrats, doing ridiculous things like starting an impeachment "investigation" against Biden for the High Crime of being a Democrat.
The only time he did anything remotely bipartisan was in the recent Continuing Resolution vote. That doesn't make up for what he'd been doing the rest of his term. He knew he needed Democratic votes to keep his job, and instead he sneered at them.

The house rules and congressional offices have baked in that the Speaker is elected from the majority party. We don’t have a traditional of independent speaker like in the UK- US House Speaker is more like UK Prime Minister in that he’s the leader of the legislative majority.
