How does one achieve such an amazing vocabulary for someone who did not educate past high school. For what it is worth (nothing), Todd is my favorite music production engineer, composer, lyric writer and sometimes guitarist. Also his vocal tone and pitch is something very special.

I grew up in the public schools of the late 50s and into the 60s. The schools then were actually GREAT, and actually taught their students. If you didn't "get it", you did not pass the class (or the year).
That all started to go downhill in the late 1970s, and has never really recovered.

Like myself he's probably wide and well read over a broad range of subjects over a long period of time.. But that in itself has nothing to do with what level of conventional indoctrination he 'attained'. Basically he's a very intelligent person. Higher functioning probably.

He married her mom, gave her his own last name, raised her as his own daughter til she figured things out. She still says he is her dad, as much as Steven is. MUCHO RESPECT FOR TODD🥰👍🏼❤️🌈🔆😎

His mix of covers was eclectic And I love it when Todd rocks his guitar! But I also must say that I always seem to leave Todd's shows feeling very satisfied.

@20:32 I whispered "A Cappella" to myself when he was asked that particular question. I absolutely LOVE that LP. I was only 19 when it came out in the mid 1980s and I also was so lucky to have seen that tour on Landsdowne ST. In Boston, Mass. I had a few solo Todd LPs and a few Utopia LPs as well so I was already a fan of Todd but something about "A Cappella" put him into a completely different category for me at that point in time. I can still remember watching him do a 3-5 minute clip on some show like Entertainment Tonight about how he recorded the LP. I thought screw MTV why can't they have cool segments of Todd Rundgren on their 24/7 pathetic channel while some random entertainment show on network cable can. It did not make sense to me and I already knew what direction MTV was going in & it wasn't very good or creative. I have a music collection that spans multiple genres and in the several thousands as well as I am a guitar player/musician who has played around with putting my own bands together. At the time around 1985 when it was released metal was huge both heavy Metallica type and the LA glam metal type along with the top 40 of that time period, Madonna, Phil Collins, and a variety of MTV video orientated cookie cutter style music as well. "A Cappella" was such a breathe of fresh air and because it was not guitar oriented I did not learn most of the songs which usually resulted in me loving & respecting the release but also added to me wanting to take a break from listening to it as well. I can still remember playing it for many of my friends who were the same age as me and most did not get it and many were strictly metal heads and thought it was too electronic for them. I am so happy I love many different genres as only listening to one genre is boring as hell and not for me. If others like it, that is cool but I need more musical stimulation than that. I also found Todd's releases to have interesting lyrics which most popular bands did not do both then and now. Even the goofier songs on piano had awesome story like lyrics such as "The Viking Song" and "Tiny Demons" just spoke to me somehow hehehe. I am glad "A Cappella" still has a special spot for Todd in his extremely vast body of music he has created. This was an excellent interview/discussion to watch & I truly enjoyed it. Thanks so much for sharing with us here.

Roger Powell took me to Mink Hollow in the early ‘80s. The remnants of Todd’s birthday party (held the day before) were scattered on the lawn. I was invited up the spiral staircase to Todd’s computer lab. There I was greeted by Shandi Sinnamon who was testing a new version of “The Utopia Graphics Tablet System” on an Apple III with a fancy hi-res graphics card.

I'm just beginning to discover Todd Rundgren, so I took a good nap yesterday (Sunday) and began having dreams with him in it. Nothing kinky. He was the age he is now, and it involved a road trip, Todd, and my extended family...and cousins I never see. And somehow the cast of the Goonies was involved too in one part of it. Anyway, I love how the subconscious works. Been enjoying all the Todd content, maybe he will show up in a Sunday nap dream again sometime.

Any Todd interview is interesting because he is interesting. As with this one, sometimes the interviewer tends to get in the way when they (i) forget their role, and/or (ii) don't recognise that the guest does not require a sidekick. Todd's interview with Rick Rubin is a good example of a knowledgable interviewer in terms of topic and technique. Rubin also has a great voice for an intimate chat. That isn't the case here, though three things must be said to the interviewer: Don't laugh into the microphone. Don't shout into the microphone - you have a mic so you don't need to shout. Don't attempt to be funny (when you're not), particularly when the guest is speaking. Kudos to Todd - 10/10 for patience and perseverance. Otherwise, thank you, this was enjoyable.

I spend a lot of $$ on my obsession which, like everyone else here, is music. Box Sets, Limited Editions books, VIP tickets (too many) etc., so I'm really surprised that I didn't take to these "Rock Cruises" from the get-go.....
Does anyone remember what the first "Rock Cruise" was ?...I feel like Yes was on one of the first ones ? Probably they go further back than I realize.
But I never got the itch to do them. One factor has to be that I really dislike cruises as a vacation-style travel. Yes I've gone on a couple of them but, for me...NOT the way to travel. But then again I've gone through A LOT to see some of my favorite bands/artists.
But the real reason came to me watching this interview (which is a great Todd interview...other than the schmuck interviewer) and it's...I really don't want to see some of my idols in swimming trunks and flipflops. There's something really undignified about it. God forbid you're relaxing by the pool and the hell-raising, drunk asshole next to you turns out to be Joe Walsh ! Or you're ordering a hotdog and have to elbow-fight for the ketchup-mustard dispensers with Edgar Winter ! I'd almost wish the cruise was split into two different sections of the ship...all artists have one end of the boat and the fans have the other.
