    Appreciate this data. When I read user reviews, I always find 8 people who say this or that helmet is super quiet, then 2 guys who say it's insanely noisy and they couldn't bear to wear it. I think that the person's riding style and motorcycle must play a part - maybe their specific windscreen sends a blast of air into a spot that in that particular helmet causes noise. Or something like that.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety

      Our pleasure! That's precisely why we test these helmets out in the way that we do. Though noise is always tricky because multiple factors such as wind screens, positioning, and fit can play a role, we always use the same bike and set up to ensure that helmets are fairly compared.

    I saw this review, compared the hjc rpha90 against all helmets on the market for this category and finally bought it.
    It was £190 on ebay new so it was the best deal and overall it is the best value helmet I have ever owned (daily driver for 8 months now).
    I have had many and only the shoei gt air II or the neotec II beats it on noise isolation and a snugger fit due to more shell sizes. What those 2 don't beat it at is on: weight, price and sharp rating as those are still arround £300 and the is max 2 (rpha 90 predecessor/sibling) ranked sharp 4 never opening the flip up mechanism throughout all tests: 100% - better than neotec 2(70%) or even the older neotec (93%). It was well worth every penny and I will buy it again and again until something even better comes along. Ride safe.

      By the way I am curious to know if you will ever do a review and road test of the unique modular retro the hjc v90 which to me also seems to be the best retro full face for the price out there. Let me know please as I can't wait to buy it for my cafe racer if it turns out to be good. Also no one seems to know if it comes with a chin curtain or not, a very important detail for us winter riders. Cheers

    I just got a sportmodular and it’s soooo noisy! 😩. My Neotec is much quieter and I know why. I had to buy a XL in the AGV and I’m a large in the Shoei. Although the AGV fits snugly enough there’s too much room on the sides. The C4 was too small even in the XL! Since fit is so different I think noise comparisons like this might be too theoretical. Gotta go with best fit!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety

      Noise is always a tough factor to take into account, since it can be influenced by a range of factors such as riding position, fairings, and fitment. It is for this reason that we always do our best to control as many variables as possible, which allows us to compare our helmets.
      Nonetheless, as far as safety, it is always best to go with the best fit.

    I switched from a Schuberth C3 Pro to a Shoei Neotec II this year and was hoping for an overall improvement in quality and noise reduction.
    While the Shoei does have a higher quality “feel” to it, it is in fact not... I’ve done a about 5000k with it this year in all kinds of weather conditions and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s overpriced and overrated. It actually leaks rain drops on my face through the top of the visor when driving through rain on the highway (not on b-roads for some reason). And most annoyingly of all, it seem to do a bit worse in terms of noise-it’s just plain loud.
    I’m now looking into the C4 Pro for next year, but I’m kinda worried I will once again be disappointed in terms of noise.
    Can anyone tell me whether the 2db difference between the C4 Pro and Neotec II is actually a notable improvement?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety

      Hi Ron, we're sorry to hear you had a tough time with the Neotec 2. When dealing with higher decibel ranges, a small change such as 2dB is very noticeable to the human ear, and a result of 99dB is indeed very impressive since this is already an improvement over a substantial number of full face touring helmets. At the moment, the only modular helmet we've tested that was quieter was the HJC RPHA 90S Carbon, which came in at an equally impressive 97 dB.

    @redbynight Před 3 lety +1

    Are you able to say if there is an appreciable difference in noise insulation between the C4 Pro and C4 Pro Carbon? I have the carbon version and empirically speaking my experience is that it is not all that quiet. I am wondering if the shell material affects noise insulation (by Schuberth's own admission it already impacts intercom range, although they are not very upfront with that piece of information).

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety +1

      Though we have not road tested the C4 Pro Carbon, we did test the C4 Pro and found it to be among one of our quietest modular with 99 dB. Looking at our results for carbon vs non-carbon helmets, in this case mainly the HJC RPHA 70 and HJC RPHA 70 Carbon, it seems there is a slight difference. Though the carbon was slightly louder, we did not find it pushed the helmet out of its star ranking band in our matrix nor was it drastic enough to change the results on our measurements. So, though the different material was slightly louder, we did not find it made a significant difference in the end.
      Thanks for the question!
      Besides noise, how have you found the C4 Pro?

    • @redbynight
      @redbynight Před 3 lety +1

      @@Championhelmets thank you for the insight! I have mixed feelings about the C4. The fit and weatherproofing are good. The intercom range is abysmal - the Sena unit should cover 1km, but Schuberth has hidden a miniscule comment in one of its brochures that the Carbon Fibre one has an advertised range of 400m. From experience, I can say that 400m is more like "line of sight". The speakers are also flimsy and the right one keeps losing its sound. So, not happy with the less-than-honest information available from the manufacturer for the premium version of a premium helmet. The placement of the intercom buttons is also ridiculous. BUT the helmet is comfortable. I have had to add some homemade padding to relieve a hard spot on the forehead, and borrowed some Arai padding to make the fit on the ears more snug. All simple fixes, but I should not have to do this to a premium helmet... No more Schuberth for me.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety

      @@redbynight The SC1 Advanced intercom has had its fair share of issues though the effect of the carbon fiber on the system's range is definitely frustrating. If one of the speakers in the helmet is not working properly, it may be that it falls under the helmet's warranty. In this case, if you purchased the helmet from us, then you can outline your issue in an email to info@championhelmets.com and we can then check with Schuberth.
      We also found the helmet did very well for comfort, and another reason for the fit may be a result of the fact that the Schuberth has a slightly more rounded fit. Though it's true, you wouldn't expect to have to add extra padding to this level of premium helmet.
      Thanks for letting us know how you found the helmet and system, we appreciate it!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for the question! While this is a broad question and you can get full face helmets that are quieter than some modular helmets, the general expectation is that modular helmets are usually used for longer distances and touring so the hope is that they would be quieter for added comfort. While not all modular helmets are quiet, we've tried to include the quietest in our guide

    Champion Helmets, I’ve recently decided that I need a quieter helmet, and I’m trying to put these noise levels into context.
    My current helmet (LS2 Breaker) is simply uncomfortablly loud at highway speeds, but I don’t have any way to measure the dB level, and I don’t really grok how the differences in values translate into what it feels like to listen to it.
    Is there any way you could repeat this experiment with a few helmets *not* billed as being quiet, to give a ‘standard’ baseline?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety

To get a better idea of what a louder modular helmet looks like, you can also check out our main modular helmet guide for 2020 with a similar lineup to our quietest helmet guide(czcams.com/video/iS355u3DkC8/video.html).

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety

      That's a great question! Most full-face helmets that we've tested (that are in the same quality range as these modular helmets) come in at about 101-102 decibels. In this high decibel range, you can usually notice the difference of several decibels. Depending on how loud your bike is, how strong the wind noise is, and how long you're riding, this can cause fatigue and would limit the use of an intercom. So, it would generally be best to go for the quieter helmet

      The fit is a bit tighter than other HJC helmets. The chin curtain and otherwise snug fit make it warmer than other helmets I’ve had. I live in a cooler climate, so not a problem.
      It is quiet compared to the 3 previous HJC helmets I’ve owned (CL-17 for example). Light weight compared to what I’ve worn before. Ear pockets/cavities are correct fit for Sena 20s speakers with a bit of space for something larger.
      Easy to install a Sena 20s Bluetooth communicator.
      The vents make little difference when opened, but noticeable.
