Shopping Mall Roof Collapses During Thunder Storm

- This is the dramatic moment a shopping centre roof collapsed during a thunderstorm.
Rain started pouring through the ceiling of the CentralPlaza WestGate mall in Bangkok, Thailand, when the city was battered with severe storms this evening (18/09).
One shopper began filming as the leak cascaded from the 60ft hight roof. Seconds later the ceiling came crashing down as locals screamed and ran for cover.
The filmer, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ''If it landed on a person they could have been killed. There was nobody directly underneath because people had moved away from the water pouring from the ceiling.
''The thunderstorm was very, very strong and the rain was powerful, but the building should be strong enough to withstand that.''
A severe electrical storm with thunder, lightning and driving rain hit the Thai capital just after 8.30pm local time causing flash floods on roads. The rain was still pouring at midnight.
Staff at the shopping mall, one of the busiest in the city, cordoned off the area where the roof collapsed and began repair work.

Good thing someone at that stand had a roof over their head to keep them from getting hit.
This scene is the same as a heavy rainstorm in Hong Kong at the end of March 2014. The ceiling of the mall has collapsed.
What is disturbing is that this person is recording before this happened.

It is very important to keep the roof drains unclogged. Enough water weight will bring the roof down
Burke I can attest to that being true one time back in my childhood the Sears that was located at the Holyoke Mall at ingleside here in Western Massachusetts in the city of Holyoke suffered a partial roof collapse because there was too much rain water on the roof they were able to repair it and reopen but you're not wrong!

That department store had so many red flags, but everyone ignored them. Especially the person behind the project, it was basically everything that was wrong, went wrong. If you’re not seeing constant leaks and groaning noises from the building, you’re probably safe
