This is insanity. To edit a video of this scale would normally take a week at least. But the amazing team managed to pull off this gargantuan edit in just two days! Big shout out to Marcus, David, Lucas and Ross for making it happen and delivering an almost 40 minute episode.
Special thanks to Yasu for finding out about this island and to Ozaki san (the owner) for letting us on to film! You can find his much more easily accessible campsite near Tokyo at the link here! www.masaruhills.com/

Chris: *talks about how he enjoyed the day and is really looking forward to camp on the island*

I would've strangled Chris for pulling this amateur preparation stunt and then leaving me with only a handful of warmers compared to how many he used. Poor Connor, I sympathised with him the moment we all understood how badly planned this was 😂
Having camped and organised camps for a good 20 years of my life I can totally empathise with Connors reaction to the camping provisions
Connor and Natsuki freezing while Chris stayed warm reminded me of when you slept over at a friend's house and they gave you nothing but the thinnest blanket lol

@@fakelove1532 Yeah, Chris really comes across as quite selfish in this episode
@@inspiteofshame Chris typically plays it up for content, but this episode is 😬 ngl
Im with conner. Camping is not something to spring on someone. A good sleeping bag and the right boots make a big difference.
Springing cold weather camping especially is how you die or get hurt. During the warmer months it's really a lot easier to just wing it for a night at least if it's not raining or something like that. I know someone who went camping spontaneously during early October here in Germany. Suddenly there was a massive rain storm and the temperatures dropped and they didn't have enough protection from the elements and had they not managed to get to a train station to huddle in they probably would have gotten hypothermia or something like that at the very least.
yeah but its ALOT funnier if he doesn't know and is forced onto an island where he could very well die if he is not prepared.
Those were seriously the thinnest sleeping bags I have ever seen. I did not even know there were sleeping bags that thin. They definitely should have linked tents or shared. It would have been warmer.
Chris hogging all the pocket-warmers for the night really was some super-villain stuff…
I think this episode made it clear who (out of the three) you would want to be trapped on a deserted island with... Connor hands down.
Connor was the best of the group and he had 0 handwarmers, poor guy
What's surprising is they only built a fire and some tents. No terraforming at all (small things like dunes around the tent to protect from the wind, trenches in case the water rose and of course set the tent nails in wood then burry them deep it in the sand to avoid drifting in a worse case scenario)
@@lowkey276This is not suprising since they are no experts when it comes to camping. Although Connor obviously has the most knowledge.
Anyone but Chris. Did none of the work, complained the most and used most of the provisions LOL.
@@lowkey276 They’re guests on a privately-owned island I doubt the owner would appreciate them tearing up the landscape for your imaginary weather problems 🤦
Yup. It normally takes one night sleeping in the cold and you start being very well-versed in all kinds of winter camping gear. Shout out to our boy Connor, building the tents and keeping the fire going!
And I suspect the cameraman for getting up an hour earlier than everyone else and getting it going
Funniest thing about this is Natsuki actually getting the idea of Haiku the most correct of the trio. It's not about strict syllable count, it's about the mora rhythm and meaning in brevity.
it also is the correct length!

@@VulcapyroWell, no
@@KM41867 Um, yes. It is.

his "British Shit Man" from the other day still keeps me awake at night :D
I thought we wouldn't see Natsuki again till the end of the trip, this is a pleasant surprise!
Agreed 😂❤ I was shocked too
It legit takes only one night camping unprepared to forever learn that you can't be unprepared to camp. The cold is a great teacher.
Unprepared in Japan.... Poor Connor, he saw it coming and knew how ill prepared Chris gonna be.
Chris really owes Connor a 5 star hotel wacky weekend after this. Genuinely unsafe to do this while being so ill prepared.
That's and Japanese Love Hotel reviews part.....4 or 5 I think? *I know they have done 3 and then there's the Jurassic Park Themed Love Hotel* 😅
i think the reason these companies give people like abroad in japan free access to sites like this island is because he puts japan and its tourist areas in a good light. better than the other western vloggers that have plagued japan recently.
You guys really have to get legit winter camping gear. This could really get dangerous.
It also would have been better to share a tent.
I swear Connor is going to pack some of those mylar emergency blankets in his bag from here on out. And some thermal long John's. And extra socks. (You really should never keep wet socks on, especially overnight, especially especially if it's cold)
The utter look of surprise and then disappointment from Connor when he finds out he’s going camping but doesn’t have his gear 😂
I love that Natsuki's life got made more exciting from all these adventures and Chris's and our lives got made more exciting by Natsuki simply existing
Everyone needs a friend like Natski
bro you literally saw his name spelled right in the comment you were replying to. @@carsoncarolina2358
I liked this comment, and it was the 420th like xD But yes, I totally agree. It's so lovely seeing them all enjoy their adventures!
And to think it all started by meeting him randomly walking home and asking a stranger for a drink.
I love the way he talks
I like how first Connor is surprised they have no supplies for camping, and then is surprised they have too much food on the boat for camping. Not enough, then too much. Keep him on his toes.
To much of the wrong stuff is as useful as none of the right stuff
Connors horror at the lack of camping planning from a man who does not go camping - hilarious but also, I feel his pain. The correct gear makes or breaks any wilderness experience 😂
So next I want a Journey Across Japan: The Great Outdoors. 21 days of camping in the coolest places in Japan.
I think you meant "coldest places in Japan"
This is an EXCELLENT idea!
Coolest place literally or figuratively?
If you ever visit Sweden, there are thousands of uninhabited islands just like this one here. And setting up tents and do camping is legal without any permit.
Aye. That is quite an interesting thing that the Swedes are okay with.
Don't visit the Swedes, Finland also has islands... BETTER islands.
@@supercyberdigi visit any of the nordic countries. It's similar experience with some variations that one should research beforehand anyways.
@@supercyberdigi classic scandinavian rivalry lol
@@Erizo_xFinland isn’t Scandinavian
That was particularly confusing because the OTHER guy looked like Natsuki with a wig on.
I really hope this was a thorough learning experience for Chris.
Lesson notes:
1. You cannot enjoy camping without preparing and acquiring appropriate gear.
2. Camping by a body of water makes for an especially cold night.
3. You can never fully trust someone else to supply all the gear you need to be comfortable and enjoy the experience.
4. Surprise camping is usually not fun, it's survival.
5. The more insulation between you and the cold ground, the better.
6. Removing your outer layers of clothes helps you sleep.
7. Tents primarily provide a barrier against wind and rain, while blankets, tarps, air pockets, and cushions provide barriers against heat loss or gain.
8. Biodegradable wet wipes can make any trip more comfortable and hygienic.
Bonus:
1. Hot soups, stews, and drinks tend to help people going to and getting out of cold sleeping arrangements.
2. Being a stanky, Kentucky fried man-child is a bit disgusting and makes people not want to share an onsen with you. So, grow TF up and use the bidet.
Chris and Connor looked genuinely worried when Natsuki said "tonight talking, cooking, f*cking" 😂
Btw I got a bit scared when Natsuki was pouring oil on the flames. An uncle of mine did that when he was a teenager and he got horribly (and permanently) burn scarred. He learned to live with it, and he even makes fun of his deformities by calling himself "barbeque", but that's a very dangerous practice.
This episode was pure anxiety from the offset 😭
As someone who camps with some regularity, I find it incredibly stressful to watch a bunch of non-campers try to do anything.
Connor camps so he knows what he is doing
Glad that I wasn't the only one who was super anxious watching this and listening to Chris and Connor almost die of Hyperthemia
@@SPOOKS125 Still, there's only so much experience helps when cold weather camping if you have the wrong gear.
Journey Across Japan: Non-Stop Viewer Anxiety
I was honestly expecting Natsuki to make a surprisingly introspective haiku entirely in Japanese just to surprise us all but no. It's better. It's... it's magical. It's a perfect descriptor of the situation you're all in. The setting. The situation. The grim conclusion to it all that once again plays with death, as so many death poems during the Sengoku Era went. And it doesn't even follow the 5-7-5 rule, paralleling Natsuki's rebellious nature in the face of almost certain destruction. It's perfect. It's got my vote.
"Island,
No toilet
No life"
- Natsuki-dono, a modern poet monk and Black Santa himself, c. 2023.
When written out in katakana it does follow the correct 5-7-5 "on" rule.
@@chokladKuchen yes indeed, it goes アイランド/ノートイレット/ノーライフ
This episode gave me anxiety as someone who lives in the north and we have many minus degrees in winter... sleeping outside without proper gear can be dangerous. You can get frostbite easily if exposed long and without proper clothing etc. :( Good thing that everything seemed to go alright though...
I've learned to never underestimate the cold.
I would totally understand if Connor brings a huge backpack full of survival gear whenever Chris invites him along for anything in the future after this.
Personally I would’ve gone with the following haiku:
“TALKING with the boys,
COOKING in Matsushima,
FUCKING up the food.”
I hope I would make Natsuki proud.
You win the haiku writing competition.
You're amazing. ♥
"CHRIS out of his depth,

Sorry couldn't resist, had to do an haiku, everyones souns good.
Conner so confused,
Chris laugh crys,
Natsuki bad black santa.
@@dreamingofpemberly Well, it's not Haiku, but I still liked it regardless. (✿ ♡‿♡)
Props to you guys getting this done so quickly but jesus this was enraging to watch.... please prepare properly when camping!! it's framed as funny but it's actually very dangerous! 😅😥😥
This just goes to show that Conner would be the best person for a survival situation
Hats off to Connor, the youngest, for being the mom of the group. 😆 Also, that island would be a great spot for summer camping! Hope Ozaki-san keeps it because he allows people to experience it too. Can't say if the next owner would do the same.
Connor: Did you bring supplies?
Chris: Yeah!
Connor: Can i have some I'm cold.
Chris: Haha no.
Nastuki is a chaotic energy and I love it, he brings so much good chaos to the videos and makes everyone laugh and have a good time. Black Santa is here
I thought Natsuki was joking, but upon searching, "Matsushima-ya, a-a-Matsushima-ya, Matsushima-ya" was actually how the haiku went. WHAT
As a camper and former Boy Scout, everything about this plan and execution triggered my anxiety for y'alls safety 😂
Yes actually looking at what they were doing really was difficult sometimes. Sad how 1st not informing Connor left him unprepared (also not able to help plan) and 2nd just leaving important things just up to him when knowing the night was gonna go below freezing with a shit summer sleepingbag & no insulated pad. Yeah no shit it was miserable. As someone that guides friends while camping that shit is stressfully, you want them to be comfortable. This should have been Chris his responsibilities especially as he didn't inform Connor. But now he had to do it all without any preparation.
@@daviddemmers130I feel like Connor had to have half known before. Like saying hey be prepared for wilderness stuff. At least that’s what I hope.
@@ravenpotter3 in the video he really was surprised and even mentioned something like "why didn't you tell me I would have brought my camping stuff, I only have this thin jacket" could be played up but it honestly didn't look like it.
@@daviddemmers130He already explained on stream that he actually was not informed beforehand and is not happy with they way they handled the whole thing.
@@Allschmoiis there a clip?
Connor has moved up the apocalypse survival list. Chris has dropped to "first one's gone" level
I hope Ozaki san turns it into a resort. He can double the size with over-the-water bungalows like in Bora Bora. Could do kayaking, fishing or a meditation retreat. Good luck to him, I hope it turns out awesome.
Much better to sleep next to the fire if it's not raining or snowing, just keep the fire going all night, not as big as Connor made it by feeding it half the forest but just enough to keep you warm. Also the sleeping bags looked like they were made for Miami.
Oof I feel bad for mainly Connor, he was already freezing when reading out the challenge lol. I once went camping with like 4 degrees (C) and it was SO COLD already. And I even had a pillow, blanket, sleeping mat, and all of the clothes.
A blanket? In the middle of the summer maybe that's fine,in the winter you need a sleeping bag rated for the temperature you're in.
@@ffwast yeah a blanket additional to my sleeping bag (it's better than what they had but a little old so not the best).
Its funny how personal cold is. I've recently had subzero temperatures indoors at home, and while a bit uncomfortable, it isn't all that bad if you take sensible precautions and wrap up warm.
10 years and Chris FINALLY went proper camping. I'm honestly impressed. Never thought it would happen
This was not proper camping. hah. But it was closer than previous attempts I suppose.
It could’ve been a good camping had he brought the proper equipment. Inadequate equipment makes I don’t want to go camping ever again and goves bad memories :(
It's so great of Chris to inspect everything on the island while Connor and Natsuki mess around with the tents
25:44 connor was NOT pleased lol
This seems like an elaborate plan by the owner to get the beach cleaned up
Advertising,that's just a bonus
Almost 40 minutes of Journey Across Japan!? You know how to greet an audience as they finish a day at work!
27:16 Probably my favorite bit of entire video Connor changing his expression to make Natsuki happy :D
for reals man...
Man got roped into a ill-prepared camping trip that he clearly wasn't enjoying because he had to do most of the work, and still remembered to smile for the camera and to make Natuski happy. Big props.
Honestly, that beach with something like a yurt or small cabin style accommodation could be a great part of a trip to Japan. A peaceful escape, especially in a warmer time of year.
Camping with Natsuki and Conor, this has insane chaos written all over it and I am totally here for it!
Now i want a video with only Conner and Natsuki where Conner speaks only japanese and Natsuki only english.
I'm so glad that this was only for a one night stay and they got super lucky with the tides.
Natsuki is reciting the words from the popular anime "No toilet, No life".
While I very much appreciate “a rip in my soul” and Natsuki’s native speaker interpretation of the medium, I think Connor takes this one
As someone who grew up camping in the wild with this big tents you gotta share them with as many ppl as fit otherwise it’s gonna be cold as hell
Exactly, they missed an opportunity to cuddle up! Hahaha
I was thinking that too, was surprised they didn't go two by two to keep warm, there's definitely enough space for two in each of those tents
I kept feeling something was off as I watched this and realized Chris has entered his villain arc.
Natsuki coming out of the tent as black santa was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
17:50 Natsuke suggesting the Buddhist monks meditating for 3 days were thinking "I just want to go" is hysterical
20:10 Chris is the crisps inspector. Legendary LOL
Can't help but appreciate Natsuki revealing the camping agenda:
1. Talking :)
2. Cooking :D
3. Fucking D:
Connor comes across as the mate who constantly worries about stuff like an old woman and Chris is the mate who says everything is fine regardless of the perilous situation you're in. Finally Natsuki is the crazy friend who causes a ton of havoc and makes things even worse....lol
Great dynamic if I must say
If it wasnt for the old woman they would sleep on the folding chairs huddled together for warmth.
Awesome hard core camping. This challenge of camping seemed easy compared to the Haiku challenge. Entertaining videos keep up the great work. Heading to Tohoku in March inspired by this channel and Ryotaro and sharmelon . Aloha.
Connor taking care of his two friends is hilarious, great vid Chris.
I love it when chris speaks japenese to locals, wish we saw more of it. Enjoyed the interview of ozaki-san. Great vid 👌🏻
I love each and everyone of Chris's friends/co-hosts but there is always an extra-extra layer of funny when Connor and Chris get together
Spent a whole day watching ur and cdawgs video love it man keep it going still have more video for me to complete of the series
The last bit of the video was so funny with Connor finding all the hand warmers in the others’ tents
I love Natsukis straight delivered jokes so much sometimes. Chris thinks hes making a good and funny although simple joke and then Natsuki just comes in with the purest and simplest driest delivery to finish him off.
Loved this one!!! Keep up the amazing work!
The editors deserve a raise.
From his elegant ramen sentence to "Talking, Cooking, FUCKING", Natsuki is a man of mystery
I love that whenever Connor or Chris do an impression of each other, they both do the same posh Boris Johnson-esque voice
Hand warmers are the best! I use them all the time when hiking. I really like the ones that have the small metal piece in the jelly that you kinda crack, because they get really hot and when they are done, you can just boil them to ''reload'' and use again.
Omg I love Matsushima! Went there this summer, and it was the best place of my month long trip. Whilst the place was small, and there weren't many shops and restaurants, the amazing scenary and the lovely people really made up for it. But I will agree, it is best experienced in the summer heat ;)
