Hannah Corneau gives a breathtaking last performance as Elphaba at the Gershwin Theater on Feb 23rd, 2020 (Evening Show). Madame Morrible: Alexandra Billings Glinda: Ginna Claire Mason
I feel like we got used to Elphabas that spent time on tour or came from the London production. Hannah was the first really new Elphaba in almost 10 years!! So it seems like it was short lived, but she was on Broadway for about a year which is normal. But she didn't have the year+ on tour or elsewhere that we are used to. That said, it is too short. I hope she tours or comes back to Broadway. She's too amazing to not be amongst those that reprised the role.
elphbwckd yeah, and I also think it’s smart to not play this role so many years in a row for vocal health reasons considering it’s her first time, and she had that bad case of laryngitis almost right at the start of her run, so it’s good she’s getting some vocal rest. But I love seeing new actresses getting a chance to play such an iconic role.
elphbwckd I mean it wasn’t really a year. She did a 9 month contract (May to February) and 1-2 of those months she had vocal injury and was out. So it was quite a short stint in my mind. 7 ish months.
I know I'm commenting this SO late but yeah I don't even remember how long she was Elphaba for but when I went to see her it was amazing and of course I cried about 8 times throughout the whole show but yeah I really do hope she comes back she was great :(
it annoys me when people act like the number of riffs = the quality of a performance. Hannah sticks to score but she doesn't need to riff. her voice has the power to carry the score as it was written.
@@x0xTHLover4Lifex0x i don’t think elphabas are allowed to do crazy riffs on broadway anymore (probably for consistency)... jessica vosk was a powerhouse elphaba and she didn’t do any special riffs on her last performance
I know right! I also always say, Hannah creates the perfect bridge between Elphaba and the Wicked Witch. You can really see Elphaba’s change in mind through her voice ! So good 😍
I saw her last defying gravity, I was there! . Flew all the way from Europe to say goodbye to my favorite Elphaba. I wish she'd return someday to Wicked, she was born to play Elphie. Flawless vocals and perfect acting. 💚
Slytherin Elphaba Supporter I was there too! Front row, first ever broadway show, I didn’t even know it was her last performance :( Edit: I lied I was there the 22nd but it’s still so sad she left :(
She reminds me of a few amazing Elphabas combined. She has the clarity of Jessica Vosk, the vibrato of Julia Murney and the dark, low vowel tones of Eden Espiosa. And she combines the best parts of those performers to perfection and crates her own sound. She OWNED this character and I'm very sad I didn't get to see. This is the first Broadway Elphaba debut I've missed and I'm very sad and angry I never got to see this perfection live. She deserves a spot amongst the titans of Wicked. And I hope she is remembered.
I love seeing elphaba’s leave the role when they are at their vocal best and strongest. I think it’s a great way to go into their next role!! It’s a shame when they leave with tired and damaged voices. She is amazing! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I agree. If she wants, Hannah can always come back to this role and she'll still be in good shape to do so! Taking a break is not a sign of weakness, and a lot of folks forget that.
It takes an insanely talented individual to pick up where somebody like Jessica Vosk leaves off, and she KILLED IT. I'll really miss her, let's hope she comes back for the tour at some point!
