    That's exactly what I thought: the dry track sounds really good! Makes you think about the importance of volume balance from the start, and if you can't do that because the recorded tracks sound like creap, it's time to rerecord.

    I’ve been wanting to see you do this for so long Joe. Especially on your voice. I’m looking forward to seeing you graduate this to non stock plugins then maybe to your favourite plugins on Your voice maybe even using the same song phrase as you used here so you can really A B compare between the final mix.

  • @maksqwe1
    @maksqwe1 Před 2 lety +3

    One important thing I only realised pretty late is that it’s important to learn on high quality recordings. I’ve struggled with poorly recorded tracks for a while and I got so frustrated that I almost gave up mixing because no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to sound nice or even cut through. When learning, it can be hard to differentiate between good and bad rough mixes and while your ears are still being trained, it’s good to have an example of how a mix CAN sound and have a reference to compare to. I’m still definitely a novice, but I actually proved to myself that I can mix when the tracks are half decent. Yes, it’s good to learn how to fix things, but as I’ve learnt from editing photographs it’s easier to subtract and tweak from a detailed file than to try and add something that’s not there.

    This is one of the reasons that I enjoy using my Console 1 with Studio One so much. It really limits me to one set of EQ and Compressors (and console emulation, which seems to eliminate some of the EQ need for me). While this is not "stock", it meets a similar criteria of getting to know one set of tools and then expanding on those to incorporate others where they are needed. Whether with stock or with something external that is consistent, it seems that the "learn your base plugins" is a good lesson. If your source is good and you have good command of a few good stock/goto plugins, you can get near 90% of the mix done and THEN add those extra spices so they are really effective. Thanks for another great tutorial, Joe!

    I would just like to say that I am brand new in this recording area. I have been making songs on my little $5 app on my phone for YEARS I never really considered going to a studio because I don't really make music to try to be a big huge fancy artist LOL I just do it as a hobby for fun because I absolutely love doing it whether my material is what the world wants to hear or not LOL anyhow..... so I bought the AudioBox Studio ultimate bundle package at Guitar Center and I have it all set up and everything's going great and I have now figured out how to record by watching your videos. There is no other CZcamsr that explains in-depth and shows us how exactly to do something the way you do. Applause to you my friend. You are one hell of a teacher thank you thank you thank you thank you. I have learned so much just from this little video.. Wow thank you man thank you... Where can I find one of your videos about the de-esser?? I'm the type of artist who has a very sharp S and a very poppy P..... once again thank you so much man this video was amazing

    Great Tute - thanks I've saved this to go back to. I realize that I master my voice based on my dislike of the sound of my voice, to try to make it closer to what I'd like it to be, rather than what a "good production sound" for MY VOICE should be. Be objective not subjective. I look forward to going back through this again. Thanks.

    If there was an “after compression blob preview button” in S1’s compressor to see what the blobs would look like while adjusting the compressor settings - in real time mind you - and displayed maybe on an adjacent track along with the original, it would be fantastic.

    I have a deep seeded appreciation for learning the importance of mastering the basics of the recording craft. these are elements that need to exist on almost every recording and you and Gregor present them quite well. Because of my acquiring Studio One 5 Professional, my subscription to Sphere and the wonderful instruments I've bought and learned over the years, my muse has been unleashed.Thank you all so much for your continued contributions. I can't wait to progress from the essentials that you so masterfully instruct Joe, to learning the eccentric methods of the industry used in the works of Peter Gabriel, XTC, The Police and others. I look forward to a little George Clinton or Steve Lillywhite methods in the future. Til then, Thanks for schooling me in the methods you have mastered. All of you at PreSonus have my unending gratitude. I have so much more to learn from all of you. Thank You..

There’s always little things that you encounter that are hard to find an explanation of. Thank you as always
