What an absolute legend Sir David Attenborough is, I could listen to him talking about wildlife all day long, the man could talk about paint drying and he'd still hold your attention, a wonderful human being 👍😎

We aren't descended from apes, we are apes. We share ancestors in common with the other apes and also monkeys

@@Mike-km2ct are we descendants of our parents? Is the answer no because we are still homo sapiens as our parents also are? I think we get the point that the original posters are trying to make, which is that we are in some way the result of millions / hundreds of thousands of years from species that we would commonly consider apes to who we are now. Words mean different things depending on the context of how we use them, much like descendant does. Though this comment isn't to disparage what you said, just to comment that your comment and what the original commenter said isn't in the same intention of meaning.

Hominids share a common ancestor with other primates, but the family tree diverged giving rise to various taxonomic orders and families. We are related to them, but had not descend from Great Apes such as chimpanzee.
