as a native french speaker, the best part is, his french pronunciation is absolutely horrendous. Like, I have to actively concentrate to try and understand what he actually says.
I'm pretty sure it's just a not necessarily intentional consequence of the actor not actually speaking french in the first place, but it just deliciously adds on the pretentiousness of it all.

I dunno why, but is so satisfying seeing Michael being so smart.
Well, we do see him being a super skilled salesman a fair amount of times but being smart? Not really. You can be an incredibly skilled idiot, which is obviously the case here (the show never tries to hide it).
Accidentally knowledgeable in one specific situation mostly because he was unable to read the children’s book.
If that’s your definition of smart, then my good sir you are a genius.

It's also satisfying seeing him be kind, like encouraging Jim or going to Pam's art show. Same goes for Dwight. It's always very rewarding seeing a character with negative traits suddenly have positive behavior.

Yup it makes more sense, compared to Ricky Gervais character in the UK version who was shown to be routinely incompetent yet still somehow was in charge.

That look on Jan's face when she realizes Michael just got the County School District contract. It's a huge deal for Dunder Mifflin. And he nailed it because he was friendly and he related to them. Scranton is his home. And it's said several times throughout the show that Michael is the best salesman in the Scranton branch. Even better than Dwight.
She's just so happy that after all that he nailed it. She realized he knew what he was doing. He can be childish but he knows selling paper. He's passionate about it.
It's a shame they made her character nuts and ruined her. She was a good foil for Michael.

Agreed. Early Jan was so good and honestly had they went a different direction with her, I would have much preferred Michael being with her than Holly(who was essentially just a female Michael Scott in many ways.)
Just like Ryan her downfall was so great to watch. So unexpected, and pretty realistic (in the crazy side of normalcy)
@TheeDeputy Hell no, I don't agree with that at all. Jan and Michael were ALWAYS wholly incompatible. Even in the early seasons, when Jan was a relatable and grounded character, you couldn't actually see them leading a fulfilling life together. She was a business-minded careerist while Michael was a rambling goofball. And, frankly, she was way too smart and beautiful for him, too. Michael and Holly were a perfect match precisely because they were so similar.
Are you kidding, Jan's character development is one of the best in the series, it was a lot of fun to watch her slowly go insane with Michael

Jan may have ended up a nutbag by the end of the series, but you can't deny that that smile of hers at the end of this video is just gorgeous.
And it was her totally realizing what Michael is capable of. I don't blame her for not wanting to be with him later on but still even if Michael has a lot of flaws that just makes his skills and abilities shine brighter.

Really enjoy the scene where Michael shows his skills in sales and people. He says everything so casually yet serious and even undermines Jan, refusing to let her speak. The writing for this sitcom is genuinely unmatched.
big facts. one of my favourite scenes. not only is the writing excellent, but so is the acting. Jan's face lighting up when she realises the spiel- and the way Micheal kinda muscles over her in the convo. Brilliant stuff.
Michael maybe nuts at other things but he is great at being salesman. That's why jim and Dwight looks up to him as a mentor in sales buissness.

@@sidvyas8549 mine too. It was a huge character development and arc as they butchered him Season 1 (most) and showed his qualifications at scenes like that. It’s a similar feel to where himself and Jim sat down in the conference room eating cake and he said he acts the way he does ‘lighten the tension/mood’. He might be a man child but he’s a very good boss. Would love to talk to the writers cause I think it would be interesting if they wrote him with the possibility of him being on the spectrum. (Might be way off, please don’t get mad)

The “Tuna” gag from Andy will forever be the greatest. Even better than that’s what she said. The fact that they left the tuna gag in for the entire series is so amazing. It’s so normal throughout the series that most repeat watchers don’t even stop to realize Andy rarely calls him by his real name. They just accept the tuna without thinking about it.
gay bar trivia scene is one of THE best in the whole series! I LOVE when Erin gets the nautical question right (via Andy)...and how Meredith, Kelly and Kevin get to show off what they know.

Jan goes to speak up and Michael quickly signals her not to, just goes on to show how well he knows to pitch, when, how and whom to pitch it with. He calls Jan in later at the end when he knows he's got the client.
REGIONAL MANAGER FOR A REASON.
Those types are my favorite moments in the show! Few and far between, but their rarity is what makes them such treasured moments and really adds to the genuity of the character interactions.
He's like Kevin. When it comes to calculating how quickly they can make it to donuts, suddenly Kevin is Rain Man. Generally, Michael is completely blind to social cues, lacks any self awareness, and has no understanding of the dynamic of the social situation. But when it comes to selling paper, his social awareness shoots through the roof.

Yep. Because just like in every other industry and company out there, Dunder-Mifflin assumed that being talented and skilled at one job means you'll be just as talented and skilled at the next position up even though it requires a completely different skillset.

Loved that Chili's episode. From what I recall, that was the first time they really showed Michael's competence. Loved the way Janet looked at him like she wanted to take a bite out of him. LOL
It’s easy to forget how smart Michale really is because of his personality but he’s a great salesman and was put into the manager position for a reason. Also an underrated Michael moment was when he met with David Wallace about his company and got their jobs back

The chilis scene is still one of my favorite scenes from this show. Jan’s realization that Michael actually knew what he was doing the entire time is golden.

Thinking about Phyllis casually agreeing to a pre-emptive nuclear strike on China.
I can’t be the on,y one who’s watched The Office countless times but still comes back to these 10-minute completions, watches a few of them every day, then ends up going back to watch it all over again. It’s such an incredible show. I’m from Scotland and disliked the UK one at first, but I watched the US one and absolutely loved it. Then I went back to the UK one and loved that as well. Such a great show. Steve Carrell is such a brilliant comedic actor and Ricky Gervais and Stephen Marchant genius writers.

The michael scott sales scene at chili's has to be one of his best moments. It really moves him beyond his stereotype of incompetent that we see leading up to it. Combined with his other sales scene, it creates an added layer of immersion to the office. Long live michael scott

He got to be a partner in an existing bar that he was a patron of, and since everyone was buying him drinks since he lost his job at the office (and the documentary came out, celebrizing him). So to keep up with the demand, they just offered him shares, since he couldn't drink that much lol... this was revealed in cut footage that the office youtube channel released
