  • Have you ever felt out-smarted by your smart phone? No worries. You’re not alone. The phone seems to be the simplest thing that these little modern miracles can do. The power and the independence that you can enjoy with a smart phone or tablet is unlimited, especially for people with vision loss. However, if you need your mobile device to talk to you in order to use it, you need to understand the difference between artificial intelligence, screen-reader technology, and dictation. These are 3 very different features of your smart device that might get confusing when you’re just getting started. Watch and share this video to learn how accessible mobile devices can be for people with all degrees of vision loss. No vision required.

Nicely done. I just subscribed. I also have a CZcams channel where I do technology demonstrations for the blind, piano tutorials and more.

what motivated you to get out of the emotional effects of blindness towards your success

Hi Margaret. It all boils down to acceptance. Everyone has unique gifts and talents, strengths, and areas that could use some improvement. No two people are alike. Once you embrace what makes you unique and learn to showcase it instead of hide it, life becomes much more enjoyable and interesting. I have discovered that my vision impairment makes me interesting compared to your average person. People are curious. They ask questions. They are fascinated to learn how I do things because most people cannot imagine how you can live a normal productive life without vision. Once you become comfortable in your skin and except who you are, then you can learn to relax and just be yourself. I know that it’s not as easy as it may seem, but you have unique qualities and special gifts that are all your own. Let these things define who you are, not your vision loss. Having diminished vision doesn’t change who you are it just changes the way you interact with your environment to access information. Once you except this notion and stop allowing your vision loss to define who you are, you’ll find acceptance. Good luck, my friend. You are on the right path. You’re asking the right questions and making progress. No worries. You’ve got this.😁

dear jazz how does a blind person cut their nails and toe nails ?

    • @Insight4blind

Hi Margaret. If you have a good feeling in your fingertips and hands, you should be able to clip your nails by using your sense of touch. Take your time and gently squeeze the clipper to be sure you know where the sharp edges are before you pinch all the way down. You might want to start by just clipping the tips and then taking a file to file and shape the nail down to the length you prefer. No worries. You’ve got this.

I don’t know if you already have a video about this, but I was wondering when I am on the phone with my earphones on I want to be able to hear the numbers outside of the air phone so I can push them how do I do that

Hi Sandra, it’s difficult to answer this question without knowing the devices you are using. It seems that you should be able to hear the tones of your phone with your headphones on so you can dial a number. When I have my AirPods or earbuds in, all audio goes through them, so I can hear everything I need to manage the function of the phone. I’m not sure why your phone would behave differently. Perhaps, you can work with a tech-support person where you purchased your phone. Good luck. If you discover a special trick for resolving this issue, I hope you share it, so we can all benefit.

@@Insight4blind I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. For example when I call my Walmart pharmacy it is talking and telling me the different prompts today end it is hard for me to hear the numbers. I was wondering if like he can fix it to where you hear the numbers that you’re pushing outside that your phones.

Well, if I am understanding you correctly, I do not think there is a way to do what you want to do. If someone does happen to know or if you figure it out, I hope you let me know.

Ah, I understand what you were saying now. It’s hard to hear the numbers over the automated system talking. I wish I had a solution for this, but I am not aware of a method for separating those sounds in your phone. The best advice I can give is to be sure that you eliminate any background noise before you make such a call. Using wireless earbuds that have noise canceling features can help to clarify the sounds as you try to perform such a task. I wish I had more to offer. If you ever learn of a method to separate the number tones from the automated speech, please share on this channel.
