    If I am on a boat: Top-water: Heavy, fast. 7,6 Moving: Med-Heavy, fast. 7,4 Texas-rig: Med-Heavy, fast. 7, 2 Spinning: Light or Med-Light, Fast 7, 0. This year trying to reduce to three rod set ups while kayaking. If I am walking the bank I reduce it to two deciding what I what technique I am using. My sons gave my dobyns rods and baitcast shimano reels when I retired several years and I really like Cadence spinning rods and reels for ned rigs, wacky rigs, and dropd shots. (I don't like retying drop shots either). I like my 6, 6 glass rod (Favorite) for cranking because I am vertical challenged and struggle with casting longer rods. I fish at least once a week (live on a small lake) and often several times a week in the summer. Enjoy your content. Thx.

    The TFO Taction looks very similar to a G Loomis. I really like the looks of it.
    My typical setups are
    MHMF 7'3" moving baits
    MHF 7'3" all around
    HF 7'4" jig worm
    MF 7'2" Finesse
    I'll use a 7'9" swimbait rod and kick the spinning rod out.

    I use spinning combos a bit more than most people here being a walleye fisherman, as well as pike but that’s a different world. I really like a 6’6”-6’9” M or ML for fishing ball head jigs with grub (anything similar to a Ned rig/shakey head style lure would be similar) for a quicker hook set and more sensitivity. A 6’9” M spinning with a fast tip would complement the 7’6 ML very well to cast lures that might have a little more weight and thicker gauge hook.

    Great Video!!! I am really curious about the ML (~1/8-1/2oz) range of casting rods and what reels to pair with them. This range seems to be the bridge between the BFS and standard bait casting gear. I already have a ML spinning setup, but would like an ML baitcasting set up. There are a number of BFS rods AND standard baitcasting rods offered in this range (1/8-1/2oz). What exactly is the difference? The only thing I can think of (other than marketing) is that the BFS rods often have micro guides. At what line size and lure weight does a BFS specific rod and reel make sense, and why? If one is in the grey area of line and lure weight/size, what factors should sway you towards a BFS and non-BFS rod/reel. I live in the Chesapeake Bay area and do a mixture of inshore and freshwater fishing, so I need a versatile ML casting setup. Any thoughts about Rod and reel “parisons” for an ML casting setup? Thanks so much for the great content!

    • @aaanglers
      @aaanglers  Před 2 měsíci

      Good question. It's a pretty niche market for those rods and reels. We like the Mojo Bass Trigon ML paired with a BFS reel like the Kastking Kestrel, Ark BFS or you could go with a 70 or MGL Shimano Curado or SLX.

    • @aaanglers
      @aaanglers  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Okay! I found 2 good options for you. Well actually 3.
      BPS Cranking Stick 7' MHF 3/8 - 1.5 $99
      Lew's Xfinity pro 7' MHF 1/4 -2. $40-80
      Lew's KVD AP reaction MHF 1/4 - 2 $100
      All 3 will throw deeper divers up to the 8xd on the BPS and 10xd on the others. All 3 will throw the Berkeley dredger 25.5, the ultimate deep diver imo. I build rods. Crankers specifically.
      I'd suggest the KVD. It's extremely versatile but it will absolutely crank. Very sensitive.

      @@aaanglers you're welcome. This literally my job. Building/finding super specific rods.
      I like y'all. Wouldn't mind building you something if you'd like. My lead times aren't long right now.
      If I do it right, I'm the fishing version of the Wizard of Oz in 5 years. 250 rods a year max. Super specific. Hand crafted. No machines. Only I build them. Nobody else. Nobody meets me, I have a pro angler for a pitchman.
      It's like the old days. An angler you fished with shows you something he had made. You like it. He calls me with your request. I go to work and eventually, a rod shows up. I build to specific baits. That's my calling card. Not a crankbait rod, a Berkeley BX Brat rod, etc...
      I'm going for the ultimate niche: Custom builder to the top level Tournament angler. I already have a BASS opens guy, and 2 top guides in my area, 1 being the top guy.
      No BS, I'm good at this. HMU and give me a way to send you my contact info and I'd gladly build you both something.

    Super awesome video!!! I was a little confused when you were talking about the first “redundant” rod at 17:04. You refer to one as “medium mod” and the other one as “medium heavy”. However the “medium mod” that you’re referring to is the “medium heavy” moderate-fast action rod (TFO Professional) in your first combo pick. The only thing different about the “redundant pick” is that it’s a fast action instead of moderate-fast. Is the fast action the reason it does better at jig fishing and spinner bait fishing?

    These gear deep dives and a cup of coffee in the morning make for a good Saturday morning . Upside down glasses know it all would say. You should be fishing on a Saturday morning , loser.

    I think having a rod for every kind of bait is a load of crap, if it’s in the weight limit that’s all ya need to worry about… different rods is more about species specific, having a rod in every length action and power is a gimmick. 🥱
