Type of braided like?
I have only been fishing bass since Thanksgiving 2021 when my son came to Florida and showed me there were fish in my retention ponds. Being really new to this sport, I don't have a boat so I am fishing exclusively in a retention pond in my subdivision. I bought the rod and reel recommended in the video - great setup. Learned how to tie a double uni and put 15lb fluorocarbon on 15lb braid. I was throwing a Texas rigged 7" Strike King Rage Tail in green pumpkin and on March 3rd, 2022 I caught a 9.85 pound, 25-1/4 inch large mouth bass. Hooked for life. Thank you for all the advice.

Damn that YUGE!
Baitcasters are a lot of fun, despite their quirks. But if you can only take one rod out with you, it should always be a spinning rod IMO.
Versatile
Definitely
YES đđ„

I've always use spinning reels and recently acquired a baitcaster. This video helped me understand what I was doing wrong with the baitcaster...I was using the wrong weight lures. Thank you.
Awesome!
Takes a big man to admit he was wrong and make a special episode just for that. A+ bro, still one of my favorite, most educational fisherman in 2022.
I just bought the exact reel, and line setup with the leader and it casts amazing. No more twists or curls unspooling in the reel it casts so much further. Total game changer with the braid.
So glad to hear that! Make sure if you did not, to shop using the links in my video description! Affiliate revenue helps the channel growđđŒ
what size is the reel?
Which line is it? Iâve been watching the pros use some very high visible line on their spinning reels and canât figure out which kind of
The spinning rod, the classic!
Of course!
Caught a nice 2lb yesterday with a drop shot/wacky rig. I recently switched everything to braid with leaders and the difference I noticed in both my casting and sensitivity is insane.
Morale of thr story, when everything else fails, the spinning rod combo and set up pulls through
Why do you use leaders with braid ?
@@mikefreetage6808 cheaper and you have more options. Cranking? I can tie on a 10 foot mono leader. Skipping or using finesse techniques? I can throw in a fluro leader as well as change line sizes. I essentially have limitless options with just 1 rod. Also, it is way cheaper in my eyes. Braid last way longer, no memory, and the most sensitive of the bunch. You can a 100 dollar rod into a 200 with braid lol
Think you have the only intro that I never skip lol
Thatâs what I like to hear!
Spinning Rods are the juice! nostalgia and they just flat out catch fish! to each his own just use what works best for you. Great vid and explaination!
Love your channel dude I'm 65 and I relate to your views on fishing and life keep up the killer content â
Well howdy Charles! Happy to have you along the journey with me on this channel
Love the thumbnail picture! Glad I could help you out with it!
Haha yessir!
I would really appreciate some advice; I am a beginner. I bought a St. Croix Premier medium power fast action 7 foot rod with a Penn Battle III size 3000 spinning reel. My main line is a 20 lb Power Pro braided line and my leader will be the 15 lb Seaguar Blue label fluorocarbon line. I have hooks of all sizes from size 12 to 5/0, offset worm hooks, extra wide gap hooks, gamakatsu octupus hooks, size 2 Walleye hooks. I have spring as well as slip bobbers and tungsten slip sinkers as well as split shot. I also have swivels. As for bait, I use live worms, I also have crankbaits, senko worms, shads, poppers, finesse football jigs, strike king rage bugs and spinner baits. I plan on fishing on lakes from my fishing canoe for walleye, smallmouth, largemouth bass, perch, bluegill and the occasional pike or muskie. My question is, how do I set up my rod? For example, I thought of using a swivel between the main and leader, and then I can attach various pre - cut and pre - tied leader lines that have different hooks for the different fish I am targeting, which will go on and off the swivel via a figure-of-eight loop knot. Above the swivel (on the main line), I will have a bead, and then 1/2 oz bullet slip weight and then a slip bobber with a bead and bobber stopper knot on top to control the depth. But then I see many people saying they hardly ever use swivels and they just tie the braided to fluorocarbon leader directly. And then I see many fishermen not using a bobber at all. So I am not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long message.
You donât need swivels. Just tie straight from leader to lures
That fish was bonafide big. For spinning gear I have the Lewâs Custom Pro but I have also fallen in love with the $59.99 Lewâs Speed Spin. Itâs been a great reel and I have caught some of my biggest Smallmouth of the year with it over the last month.
For sure man!
My favorite setup! Spinning rod for the win!! Thanks for the great work!
Thanks for watching cam!
I use 30lb braid with a 15lb fluoro leader. Besides having the clear line if I'm in clear water, I'm not wasting all my braid constantly when I retie. I use my spinning rod for Texas, ned, and shakey head fishing. A lot of times jerk baits too.
Blood knot for me for splicing lines.
Dude, that's a fatty walleye...holy s$#%
đđŒ
Honestly i love both baitcaster setup or spinning setup they both catch fish and get the job done.
great vid this definitely educated me with line because i used to just use 8 lbs low vis green mono or 15 lbs braid
Awesome!
I'm weird. I started with those long bamboo poles as a kid like 1980. Then spincasted (good spincasters are also underrated). Then used the old school ambassador baitcaster and thought it was awesome. Finally as a teen with a job and license, I finally bought my first spinning reel. Later I got into the sleeker, smaller baitcasters. I think I still have more spinning reels than baitcaster, from size 10 (1000) to 6500. But you're right , it isn't even an option. Having versatile spinning combos with you are a must!
Great knowledge and input!
In Florida I use spinning rod using wacky bass fishing and ned rig fishing but for jerk baits rattle traps and crank baits I use a bait caster
If you guys are wondering how long his leader is you can search up trf leader to learn more but basically he said when you reel your lure all the way to the tip of your rod the leader knot should be just on the outside of the reel maybe 1-2 inches
idk why people hate spinning rods but i absolutely love them so versatile and i catch the majority of the bass on said spinning rod meanwhile my gucci baitcaster gets put on the back burner lol
Love my casting reels but been using that same spinning reel set up for about a yr now and itâs my go to, love it. My lews spinning rods are awesome an have been great but just got a Okuma medium + set up and have to say itâs pretty sweet.
Thanks Tyler for your video on spincasting setup . I have never used braided line, but after your video I am going to try it. Nice Walleyeđ
A spinning rod is also more accurate on long casts. It's very easy to feather the line with your index finger. Nice Fish!
I can promise you, a spinning rod is not more accurate for bass lures
I really enjoy your videos. New to your channel and your teaching are well done! Iâm in Minnesota and just started bass fishing last year at 57 yrs old. Yet to catch anything big!
Learning to use my baitcaster currently and honestly right now all it is to me is a depression stick. Need to buy a nicer spinning rod so I can stay happy but still cast effectively
Watching from the Philippines đ”đ
Amazing!
Can you fish glide baits &/or multi-jointed swim baits with a spinning reel? Especially the bigger types or is that reserved for baitcasters only?
Using a swivel between your main line and leader will help get rid of line twist but if your using a top water like a popper you definitely donât want to us a swivel.
czcams.com/video/Irf8sPed1PI/video.html
I still prefer my spinning setup to my baitcaster, I just grew up with it and I feel way more accurate. But nothing beats just the one handed operations of a baitcaster.
Exactly, I feel that
Love your content. You help me so much with bass fishing.
Awesome! Iâm so glad
Hi Tyler, awesome video đđđđ
Hey Tyler, you might not see this because this video is 3 years old, but I was just curious what swimbait you are using. It looks like a nice little finesse lure. Great video Tyler keep up the good work!
Once i learned the FG ive never considered a different connection. I made the lazy mistake of not usimg it to tie my main line to the backing and it cost me a trip.
What is a FG
Tylers Reel Fishing, nice informative video and awesome Walleye! Keep doin what you do!
Thanks bud!
Dope video
Sick sick walleye! Congrats đđ»đđ»
Hey Tyler the tip of my rod broke off and it was a 7ft CastawayRod with my H20 Express mettle hd baitcaster so would you want me to get a new rod or just continue to fish with it?
I would recommend getting a new rod, if your worried about breaking it get a ugly stik gx2 or SixGillFishing creature.
Black and Blue Bassin Thanks
Get you a new Lewâs rod
TylersReelFishing Ok what would be the best one for my reel
That is a MONSTER WALLEYE!!!
SO BIG
Drag is key when using small hooks!!đ€đ€
Really liked how you set up the chapters on this one. Thanks for taking the time to do that! Great video (as always)!
Thanks Mitch!
Great description. Thank you.
Great stuff Tyler! Keep killing the game!!
try an alberto knot for braid to leader
Iâm loooking for a main everyday spinning rod.. is that what you suggest? The lews 7â2 medium? Thanks
As long as its not a "Shakespeare" rod combo I'm all for it..
And itâs not
What size of reel are you using on this?
Wait you use no backing for your line?
Great as always. Could you talk about leader lengths and why different folks recommend different lengths.... spinning and baitcast leader length comparison.
Yes I definitely couldđđŒ
Wow thatâs a huge walleye. my pb walleye is a 9lber that I caught in Canada on a rattle trap somehow, and great video as alwaysđ
Thatâs a big one for sure!
Hey Tyler I'm new to the baitcaster I have 2of them I'm don't fish alot but I'm wanting to learn to use them but what I'm wanting to know is what is the best line to use for them for example I already on a video I wanted you said 50 lb test for frog and chadderbait can I use 17 lb test for crank and plopper and plastics can I do this
Informative. Thanks.
That was some rough water!! Once again thanks for the info!! So detailed greatly appreciated!!
that's a monster walleye dudeïŒsome people also think baitcast are cooler lookingïŒbut actually a nice spinning reel could be fancy as wellïŒfor me i like spinning
For sure man
Spinning rod works better for some many things such as finesse fishing. People that only use baitcasters handicap themselves
I agree man
I can't decide between tatula xt MHF, dobyns maverick medium/fast, I could maybe get that normal tatula or the dobyns fury, but still the recommended lure weights are really throwing me off. I want to weightless 5 inch senkos, but have a big of wiggle room for a tad lighter/smaller or a tad heavier. I know this isn't really something that can be done without buying 2 rods, so I figured I'd probably go lighter end and then if I want heavier I need a baitcaster secondary.
I use spinning rods. I throw plastic worms with them and catch bass. I regret nothing.
Do you think this set up would be good for a mix between pike/bass fishing?
Tyler, are you still liking this combo? When I click on the rod link I donât see the âtube specialâ. I am usually fishing the lake front/river in Chicago which are pretty deep. Are there any other set ups you recommend for the area I fish? Thanks!
Love your videos! Learned a ton. I tie the FG knot and Albright. You gotta learn those! You can use longer leaders as the knot can go through that last eye easier, especially the FG!
For sure man!
Why is it for beginners? At 48. Iâve been fishing most of my life and I still use my spinning with plastics. I use bait caster for crank baits.
Great video, old guy learning a lot. Do you use a different line as a backer for your braid. Or do you just use braid and fluorocarbon leader?
Braid on the spool, flouro on the leader
I was just pike fishing with mine yesterday here in Alaska. Not much luck up here. These were some solid tips bro!!
Iâm sure youâll find em!
How long should the leader be?
Search âTylersReelFishing leaderâ
@@TylersReelFishing thanks bud. đ
You are a spinning genius
Beautiful walleye
Thanks ty!
Question. I bought a lews Mach 2 spinning reel and itâs noisy right off the bat. Have you heard of that?
Add some more backing and bring that line right up yo edge of spool! You'll get a lot of casting distance
That walleye was a monster how many inches? my pb is 31 inches ice fishing in Minnesota
I donât know if I want this reel or the abu Garcia Zata spinning reel
That was a massive walleye dude! Congrats! And they are great to eat :)
Yes it was!
I canât decide between shimano vanguard 2500 or 3000 for freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds. Mostly bass trout. Also st croix premier or victory
I donât use any of those brands, I use Lewâs. Sorry, wish I could help!
Beautifull fish my friend..congrats!!!
My signature one is basically an ugly stik gx2 and a shakespere reel
I love how you post every dayâ€ïž
I spooled up 30lb braid with 8lb floro leader. I fish erie smallmouth. Is 30lb to stout?? I mainly did to save on spooling more line..
Yeah I use 15
I use a lews Mach one with 30lb braid to 12 lb fluorocarbon, do you think I should use 15/20 pound braid mainline?
Yes. No reason on a spinning to have anything over 15
That walleye is over 30 inches great job
28in!
TylersReelFishing still a great fish
@@TylersReelFishing did ya weigh it???
Had to be over 10. Multiple people have told me that too
Spinning rods started becoming popular ever since Jeremy Wade used themâŠâŠthatâs why I started using đ
The last item that I need to complete my TylersReelFishing spinning combo is the rod, what size do you recommend for primarily bank fishing?
7â0âM
Ned rig terd??? Killer on bass!!!
How long of a leader should you use when connecting to a braided line on a spinning and baitcaster reel?
No longer than the rod in my opinion. I want, when I cast, to not have the connection knot in the spool. See this video: czcams.com/video/C9kSs-IC2QE/video.html
I us both spinning and bait caster
For sure!
Hello
If you are ever back up in ny in the spring Iâd do anything for some time on the water with you.
Maybe one day!
I never trust the drag on my bait caster every time I go to set the hook my drag is either to lose it too tight đ€
Operator error! Lol
That rod might be the spinning rod I have been looking for. With all the brick and mortar stores out of stock on everything it is hard to actually go look at something in person. I was thinking of the TP1 Black as I love the casting version however I like the idea of not having the micro guides on my spinning combo.
Yeah Iâm not a huge fan of micro guides
what size hook/jig is that?
Hey just a quick question for you Tyler! In your description the link that you provided with the spinning rod what size was the one that you used in this video? 6â10 med LT Or was it the 7â medXfast? Please let me know Iâm curious
The latter. It should be linked in the video description, but sometimes I forget.
Personally I only use my baitcaster for heavier baits plus I get more distance with my spinning reels
Great video, Tyler. 2 questions for ya: What size reel is on that combo? I saw 4 size options in the link...and how much did that Walleye weigh?
3000 size. Didnât weigh it, but several walleye guys have told me it was over 10 EASY
Great video, any tournaments soon?
Most likely not. COVID made a lot of them change
Ive never used anything else... didnt think baitcasters were the norm lol. Honestly they kinda make me think of kiddie poles.
Look at the boat deck of every professional angler and youâll see 90% baitcasters. They are by far the best type of fishing rod for efficient bass catching
I disagree with the accuracy statement lending to spinning rods not being accurate. They are all I use. I can fish a bait caster but only would use for punching or frogs but also throw frogs with my spinning setup. I just prefer the feel of the spinning rod and the casting distance.
I understand your experience with them, but Iâm just telling ya: try skipping a dock or flipping lay downs with a 3/4oz jig, and tell me how many accurate pin point casts you can make in a minute. A baitcaster will far outperform
@@TylersReelFishing Your talking speed not how well one is over the other.
Why do you use a right hand baitcast but left hand spinning....habit? I'm trying to start baitcast with a left like my spinning.
Hi! How long would the fc leader be for this setup? Just bought braid and fc for my spinning rod and I wanted to know how to exactly set it up. Thanks in advance! Love your channel! â€ïž
Hi Rosie! I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully someone can help explain lol
About 6-8 foot long. Just short enough to cast and not have the connecting knot in the reel. I want the knot above my finger holding the line
Whats your favorite size in the spinning reel 2000 or 3000?
3000
If a rod is labeled 6-12 lb does that go for braided or os it ok if I went with 15lb braided?
Itâs probably ok with braided
Hey Tyler I have a question, what size spinning reel do you recommend on a medium rod?
2500-3000
