Edge: Coticule Slurry on Surgical Black One Hone Stone :)
In today's adventure we give another shot at shaving with a straight razor! We honed this razor on a surgical black using coticule slurry and working our way up in refinement using the dilucote method. The edge was great! How do you rate the shave? I always read and reply to all your comments so make sure you drop one in the comment section! Cheers - Jak na to + styl
What did you think about this one hone stone edge? :) Surgical black as the base stone using Coticule slurry to set the bevel all the way up to shave ready!
Lovely, sometime I'll try coticule slurry on a black Ark....as black arks aren't much use to me 😊
@@Martins-Shaves123 Thank you Martin! I like the use of the black ark as the base stone because there is no way of going further back… with a regular coticule some people might use too much pressure and kick more garnets into the mix. The ark is so dense and hard that there is no way to go backwards unless you use incorrect technique, what slurry you have is what you get hehe cheers my friend
@@seanstapelfeld , Spot on Sean , next stop harder than a black Ark would probably be granite 😆
@@Martins-Shaves123 knowing our little group someone will look for one and hone on it haha and I would love that
@@seanstapelfeld probably me 😆
Hey Sean. Nice quick shave. I'm actually starting to realize that in my case the lather does not necessarily have to be like 100% perfect. It's amazing that the one stone actually worked. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that wonder what should be the one (or two) stone they should get 🙂 to not have to spend way too much on stones. Have a good rest of your weekend
@@borbelyhaz321 Thank you my good friend! I think you’re right when it comes to the lather, if the blade is keen enough it will plow through the whiskers either way. Sometimes I get bored and play around with it, some days I make it really thick and other days thinner and slicker. Thanks for always being here my friend
You got THE ROAD RUNNER beat… beep, beep. Zoomed right by me in a flash.
Todays video was a quick one hehe good thing it uploaded really quick to youtube 🤣
When they add shaving to the Olympics, I know to hedge my bets on.
@@BigEShaves You know I was actually wondering what the Guinness world record is for a straight razor shave with 3 passes but I can’t find that. Hehe
Wow... just wow!🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@josuetirado4499 thank you my friend!
Lovely fast clean shave 👌 and multi pass 🎉
@@Martins-Shaves123 Thank you so much Marti!
Great, efficient, fast shave. I'd have to try it sometime. I watched the film with pleasure. I also use Arcansas black surgical to finish the blade . But on oil only, without suspension.
@@kwasek1971 Thank you my friend! It’s a journey that never ends, it really feels like the more you do it the better you get. I heard someone say your first shave will suck and your 10th shave will be a lot better then your 100 will be better and then your 1,000 shave will be better and it keeps going. Thanks for watching and those kind words
Nice! An effortless, fast, 3 pass shave, I’d say that edge is legit!
@@subtleartsoapco Thank you sir! Not my fastest shave with a straight, the record to beat is 2:15 but hopefully in the future and with a lot of caution I can get a 3 pass in under 2 minutes. Cheers
It sounded nice and sharp! Once I finally invest in a black ark I’ll give this a try. Seems similar to what you’d do with a Jnat using nagura.
Yes! My friend jacques and Leon made videos using the black ark with jnat nagura. I've only tried the coticule so far hehe
Nicely done 😌👏
We did a sub 3 minute shave straight/shavette 3 pass challenge a few years ago. We all managed it and it was a fun challenge, but I’m happy to watch other people do this kind of thing now.
Dave Card! You’re the reason why I do these videos. I watch your videos and Paulo caravelho and matti lindholm! It’s been a while since you’ve posted a video but trust me that I still watch your old videos and learn a lot. It’s an honor for me that you saw this video because you’re the inspiration behind this. I’m honored
@@seanstapelfeld thank you very much, and it’s me that is honoured by your kind words. Both the other chaps you mentioned are so talented, they have two of my favourite techniques. I was watching Matti when he was still doing his videos in Swedish.
Yes, I haven’t made one for a while, my heart hasn’t been it since losing my old friend Frank Strömberg, another very talented shaver who had some unique moves.
You made that shave look very easy, I think I’d better stay in retirement. 😌
Have a good evening!!
@@bendycard I know Frank was very close to you, I didn't mention him in my list because I didn't want to bring any sad memories but in this video when i'm lathering and smile at the camera I did it because of the inspiration I have of him. There's only a few videos of him since his passing but the one video i've seen of him he smiles at the camera while lathering so I wanted to keep his image going on this one. Thank you again! You don't know how much it means to me hear those words!
Beautiful job ! I remember doing something like that a few years ago. 😂
Great channel you have here!👏
@@pedrotrust Believe it or not you’re the inspiration behind all my fast shaves I do haha it’s an honor that you got to watch this!
@@seanstapelfeld It's a pleasure watching you shave, great technique ! 🤗
Thank you! This means a lot to me coming from you my friend. I’m so glad you posted a new video as well. It had been like 2 years since the last one, I’ve seen them all haha
Oh I see I have a long way to go so fast! 🤜💥🤛
@@RobertsClassicShave Thank you Robert! We will all get better shaves the more we share with our friends and the more we practice. Cheers and happy weekend
I haven't seen the honing video for the one stone yet, but it seemed to work well.
Thanks for sharing.
@@nonamebear1136 I’m going to make a new one with the new surgical black I got… it loves coticule slurry
@@seanstapelfeld Sweet. I am looking forward to it.
@@nonamebear1136 Thank you Rob! Happy weekend my friend
Hell fire Sean, that was quick. Very nicely done but I'll stick to my twenty minute shave all the same. 😀 That's a beautiful razor! I love their branding. I may have to look out for one.
Thank you my friend! For the most part I stick to longer shaving sessions and enjoy the ride but other days I want to get over with it quick hehe. Thanks for being here and i'll be looking forward to your next one!
Nice to see you Mark hanging with the across the pond cousins.
@@longhaultanker Hey Leon. I hope you are keeping safe and well, my friend.
A sharp, clean, FAST shave!
@@757History Thank you my friend! I do enjoy these fast shaves, slowly I get less and less irritation when I do them.
That's a quick shave! Too fast for me. I prefer to take my time, enjoy the soap, the scent, and the feel of the razor. On a normal day I allow for 15 minutes in the morning for a shave.
Especially those artisan soaps!!They make some really nice scents. I’ve never asked you before Greg but what soaps are your favorites to use that get you a nice lather? Cheers my friend and happy weekend hopefully one with a cigar and some rum at hand hehe
@@seanstapelfeld I think it is almost difficult to find an artisan on either side of the Atlantic who makes a bad lather. Among my favorites in the US are Barrister and Mann, Wholly Kaw, Spearhead and Zingari Man, but there are others too. In Europe, WestMan, Eufros, Faena, and Abbate Y La Mantia come to mind. Master Soap Creations in SA is great.
For scents, anything Shawn Maher touches has been excellent. Everything he's done for Spearhead's Seaforth! line has been a hit. Ben, at House of Mammoth is really talented. I think Sri at Wholly Kaw is underappreciated perhaps. Lots of interesting fragrances out there that are not duplicates of famous perfumes.
@@greggallant5058 Thank you Greg! Well I think I will look at Shawn’s work, we almost have the same name so it must be a sign hehe thank you so much my friend!
@@seanstapelfeld Your welcome! Time for me to go get some BBQ and beer. I'm sure I'll manage to find a cigar (or two) later this evening 😉
@@greggallant5058 Man BBQ sounds good! I wish I was you right now 😕
Well that was a quicky, well done.💈🪒
@@garys_shave Thank you Gary! I’m waiting for a variety pack of DE blades to give DE shaving another go! Cheers my friend
