- I had a request for a tour of all my art books (mostly fantasy & some illustration/graphic design) after a showed a few in another video, and since I was grieving the loss of my cat this week and didn't plan & script anything, I figured it would be a chill time to just look through some art books. Sorry if I flip through any of them too fast, I didn't want this to be REALLY long...

I just love the faries and gnome books. We had a friend who helped with the art work for the gnomes book. I am in my 70's and have always wanted to write but my mother wasn't very happy about it. So here I am and trying to learn in my ancient old age. lol
Hi! Something I'd like to bring to your attention ❤️ the sound balance in your videos seems to have music in the left and your voice in the right. This doesn't matter for speakers, but when listening with only one headphone, as I do, I can only hear the music and not your voice! I would love to hear your voice in both 😘 hope this is an easy fix for you ❤
Oh nooo, I thought I fixed that. Okay, I'll have to ask my guy what to do because clearly I am missing something with the tech here... Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to get this fixed before the next video, along with the low sound levels a couple others have mentioned.
Fyi my headphones don’t have this problem - I can hear both voice & music in each side. 🤷♀️
❤❤ losing a pet is hard. Thank you for sharing your videos with us.
Thanks for your kind words
Keep sharing. Wonderful to see your influences. I’m about your age, thank you for reminding me of my trawling-the-library days. Art and design books used to be my favourite things to browse.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. ❤
Oh I so sorry to hear about your kitty 🤗
I make a lot of pinterest boards and that sort of thing, but it would be fun I think to have more analog art books and things like that. Sometimes the internet can be a little too much of everything all at once. Also my favourite Miyazaki movie when I was kid was also whispers of the heart! Something about her being a writer probably.
Yes, true! I identified the most with Whisper of the Heart, and the creative struggles depicted in it. Plus it had cats, and I also had a teen crush on a boy who played...well, he was more fiddler than violinist, but either way I could relate to a lot of that movie!
Watching this while painting my final piece for first term at my school❤️
Awesome! Good luck with the piece!
I have the Howls Moving Castle Art books, its so beautiful. They are all beautiful art books that you have and so facinating to see the differences between them.
Good video can’t wait to see more from you
What a great video! Im see in so many artists and books I've never seen in other's art book collections.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed!
Hello! New to your channel. Came for a video title, stayed for the chill and interesting vibes 🙂
1. Sorry for your loss of a beloved pet. It's hard no matter how "predictable" it is.
2. I actually lol'd when you said a comic book artist's job is grueling. Not because I doubt it but because I had just watched your video on "40 books in 4 years." It would be fair to say that's a grueling schedule!
Welcome! Thank you for the condolences. It's a loss so many of us know.
That's true, I probably was working as hard as a comic book artist but I have a feeling I was at least getting better compensated for it (generally...obviously there are exceptions) so I could save some money and scale back... And in Japan, so many manga artists seem to die rather young or just totally flame out...
I've been binging your videos this morning since the algorithm blessed me with a recommendation to watch you. Loving your videos but might I suggest that the volume of the background music be turned down (or sometimes is not needed at all) there were times i could barely hear your voice.
Having said that, keep up the great work!
Yeah, this one got weird with the sound for some reason. It should finally be straightened out. We spent a few hours really messing with the microphones and all the settings to figure out why the voice kept coming out so quiet and/or out of one ear for headphones...
great collection
I used to want to be a comic/manga artist too but for me, i have trouble doing character sketches and NOT making it a piece!😹
Also, gosh darnit! Alot of these books are really expensive now! Hopefully the library has them.
ALSO! Ive been trying to find some of Brom's artbooks cos his novels have art in them and WOW
Ugh, art books go out of print so much and then they are SO expensive when they do...
@lidiyafoxgloveauthor ugh yeah i just went and grabbed up the last cheapest copy i could find of Darkwerks: the art of brom cos now all his other artbooks are like $1000! I really wish I could've found and jumped on this train before it left the station 😹
I have that Gnome book and the Faeries book by Brian Froud! I would also recommend art books from Arthur Rackham, his style fits those nicely 👌
Is there a Rackham book you recommend? I've been wanting a collection of his art but there have been quite a few published over the years & I'm never sure which to get!

I'm so sorry about Oscar. I lost my Pocket in July, and my almost two year old still asks about him. It makes me sad and happy to talk about him, but I would say there are more happy feelings in remembering him and his one orange braincell-ness now than there are sad feelings about his absence. But, wow, it took me a long time to get there.
This was a great video though! And I didn't get that hyperconsumerism "I spent A GAZILLION dollars" 😱 vibes at all.
I'm having to downsize a lot of stuff to move, so I've been trading in my books to a used bookstore for credit to get my daughter picture books. So it's sorta downsizing, haha. But the art in some of the books are really inspiring!
Tove Jansson Moomins, Who Will Comfort Toffle, A Dangerous Journey. I would love to one day get a hold of an illustrated copy that she did of the Hobbit!
Sven Nordqvist's Findus and the Christmas Tomte. Pettson and Findus books are about an eccentric older man with his cheeky orange cat, Findus. Some impeccable cottage core vibes.
Jon Klassen for darkly humorous children's books are favorites here, with a kinda folksart feel to the art. I'm probably using absolutely incorrect terminology.
And a Beauty and the Beast retelling called Bunny and the Beast with paintings by Pamela Silin-Palmer that are seriously enchanting.
This comment is too long. And maybe it's just because I've been reading so many children's books, but I've definitely learned not to sleep on illustrated children's books.
Aw, Pocket is such a cute name. I'm sure adding a two year old to the equation makes it even more heartbreaking. I just added an orange boy to the family in Oskar's absence and I'm not sure he has more than one brain cell either. He's been helping because he is just a pure floof of love, but he and Oskar could NOT be more different. Well, except for the love part.
Ooh, these are great recs! I didn't know Tove Jansson illustrated the Hobbit, that would be amazing. I just discovered her recently, for the most part...I'd been wanting to read the Moomin books since I was a kid but since I get most things from used bookstores and libraries...well, I never found them, so my other Christmas present this year besides the graphic design books was a box set of Moomin.
I had never heard of Sven Nordquist or Bunny and the Beast at ALL, those look very charming!!! Thank you for the recs! I love children's book illustration too, although I don't own very many, because looking through all those skinny little children's books for gold at the thrift store is...time consuming. But I love Jan Brett, Trina Schart Hyman, Gyo Fujikawa, Mitsumasa Anno, Hilary Knight, Tasha Tudor...
@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor Orange cats are something else.
@@ginac537That's true. My dilute tortie, who appears in a few of the videos, is also pretty dumb and very weird and a total snuggle bug. I adore her. And Oskar was a big black beast. I love them all!
What's the music at 14:40? I really dig it!
That is Spring Thaw by Asher Fulero from the CZcams music library! That is a pretty cool piece!
@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor thank you!
oops, sorry i meant the one after that! 😅@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor
Oh wow, i wish i could play games.
I just suck at it
I suck at everything BUT JRPGs, haha... my reflexes are terrible. Even as a kid there was one point playing Chrono Trigger where you have to do all this button mashing or you can't continue, and I had to wait until my friend came over to get through it for me. I'm also not great at spatial awareness in some 3-D video games, though it seems to depend.
im confused as to why the music is in one ear and the dialogue is in the other its really offputting for headphone users
I'm sorry, I've been made aware! I thought I had fixed this & I'm embarrassed, but I will make sure it's back to two channels for future videos!
