those who have only experienced foreign countries as tourists may have a somewhat romanticized view. As a tourist, one typically encounters the most appealing aspects of a country - its culture, attractions, and hospitality. before migrating try working in the country you choose for an extended period than you decide whether to migrate will be a wiser option.
Agreed, as someone who migrated to Canada, one has to realize that after the initial spark of being in a new country is gone, it’s like living in any other country. Although I would say, Canada is a great option for migration/retirement. Because we pay higher taxes, healthcare is free so you can have free medical yearly checkups, medication heavily subsidized (sometimes you don’t pay a single dollar for your medication, or maybe pay less than $10 for it). Education until high school is free. With that said, the downside is definitely safety and long commutes. I drive so I am not always taking the public transport, but before I had my drivers license, I used to take the public transport, and would always try to be back before a certain time. Additionally, unlike Singapore where everything is conveniently close to each other, one would need to drive to places and the average commute per place (within a 25 km radius), would be at least 30-45 min. Another thing would be cost of public transport. It can get really expensive so that’s why it’s cheaper to own a car/vehicle. I do miss Singapore and I still call it home but for long term reasons, I think Canada is much better. So much diversity in the country so I have learned about different ethnicities and nationalities - its culture and such - more in Canada than I would’ve in Singapore. I also found that the education in Canada have definitely expanded my way of thinking to just being book based and more of a critical thinker. I guess that’s just my take on migrating. It’s important to see all facades of the country and your reasons, before moving. I’ve been living here for almost 14 years, some people I know have migrated but have moved back since.

From the video I saw many chooses Australia as the place to migrate bcos of the slow pace. I'd like to share a different perspective based on my experiences. Regarding the appeal of a slower pace of life in countries like Australia, I have a contrasting view.
While a slower pace can be relaxing, it often translates into delays and inefficiencies, especially when urgent tasks need attention. Singapore despite its fast pace, there's an efficiency and urgency in getting things done.
@@rickoh totally agree, I perhaps forgot to highlight that as well. Canada’s life is very similar to Australia, it is definitely more slow paced and relaxed, but with that being said, because of the influx of Asians from high achieving countries like China, South Korea and Hong Kong, things are most definitely different. Lately there’s been a sense of almost the same pace as Singapore, especially in highly populated metropolitan areas like Toronto and Vancouver. Other than those main cities, many other areas are still very much slower paced and relaxed. I also would add that if someone is looking into migrating for their family, the education system is HIGHLY RELAXED for students, so many of the stressors that Singaporean students feel are not felt by many here in Canada.
I guess compared to Australia, Canada/USA is a lot further from Singapore, so people are less likely to migrate here primarily because of the distance (figuratively and literally) from their family. If one wanted/needed to go back to Singapore, it is a lot quicker and cheaper from Australia (or even UK) than Canada. Like for me, I can only plan to go back every few years because when I do, I try to be back for a longer period of time. I would imagine that if I was living in Australia, I would most likely be back at least once every year.
I’m also not familiar with the healthcare system in Australia, so I can’t speak on that, but a huge plus for Canada would be the healthcare. Moreover, I know for maternity leave, the mothers are able to also take their 1 year maternity leave without worrying for their job security. That’s because there are laws placed in Canada that ensure the jobs of these new mothers are protected.
As the years go, I’ve come to realize that “free” healthcare is so important for me because it definitely puts me at ease knowing that many of the future medical fees are covered and I do not need to worry as much. I think that’s one of the biggest reasons why I still want to live in Canada.

As someone who is singaporean now, and had lived in Philippines, nobody will truly understand how good we have it in Singapore. Yes, Singapore isn't perfect, but i promise, we have it better than we think.

when i was younger, my mindset was die die must migrate. now that i am older, die die dont migrate. every country has its pros and cons. singapore's cons are the ones i can accept the most compared to other countries. we take alot of things for granted and constantly complain as singaporeans. but seriously guys, we have it good here
I agree with most comments here. I used to have this perfect view of life overseas only because I have been visiting the countries as tourists and everything just seemed so much better. I decided to then take the chance and move to the Netherlands (sounds all nice living in Europe). After staying here now for close to 2 years, I can safely say I MISS SINGAPORE SO MUCH. and honestly, we have one of the best (yes, competitive and stressful but still one of the top) systems in the world.
Like some citizens, I did think of imigrating to another country during my late adolescence. But as time goes by and I got to travel and witness more, it really made me see a whole new array of pros staying here in SG. For every damn shelters, train that comes
Singapore income tax is very low and no tax on dividends by the government. I will travel but not migrate cos I travel on business trips by the company and see for myself SG is better.
I have stayed overseas 18 years, only after I work and stayed overseas for an extended period I truly appreciate the SG system.

@@leechong2291and cars? Don't even get me started about how much valuable hours of your lives lost forever in 2-3 hour traffic jams every single day just to get to work. I'd much rather pay the high COE and enjoy the almost no jam roads saving me time of my life which I can never get back in Singapore.
Save the migration money and travel more instead. Best of both worlds.
Have a safe home to come back to with many benefits (safety, security, healthcare), and travel to wherever you want with strongest passport in the world.

migration will be like a lump sum and once in a lifetime thing rather than travelling as a tourist. There are some things that I cannot do and provide for my future kids in Sg but overseas will allow that and that is my goal to move away and get PR in a country that is more laid back and better culture
I am someone that will never give up moving away for a better life for friends and family. That is not to say I am not close to my family, in fact I am very close to my elders and cousins but I know SG will not give me that quality of life for myself and my future kids options. A lot of my friends and myself were wasted potentials and gave up pursuing some hobbies and fields as SG can never provide and yet now many of us get discriminated because of our grades and the system discard us...

Can we also interview more working adults just for a broader POV? I feel like a lot of those interviewed have a disillusion about other markets like JP/ KR but without understanding other impt aspects like their VERY OVERWORKED work culture, hierarchical work society , drinking culture etc

I think the idea of immigrating is very attractive & I was once very motivated by it. But the reality is not always the same. Travelling to a country for vacation and living there for a long time is VERY different. You think a slow paced life is better until you need a reply from your bank and they take ages to reply.
Personally, I think we really have it good in SG and I agree with the lady in white at 6:38. I too only began to appreciate what we have in Singapore when I moved to Australia. I moved back to SG in the end.
Spot on. Going over on a holiday in Australia and then deducing it is better like thr girl did is seriously misguided. You could do the same in Singapore by taking up a lesser pay 9-5 job.

I live in Melbourne and I can tell you it is not as “chilled” as you Singaporeans think cos when you guys come over for a holiday .. you perceived everything is chill as , we do have a better quality of life in some aspects and having also lived in Singapore … I don’t think it is as fast paced … as HK

Many ppl told me they would never want to retire here in SG, for me I hope to work and enjoy some quality life out of Singapore once I get the chance within this decade... I believe I will not have much regrets as SG is becoming too unliveable
