- Since he's a pensioner my neighbour (1948) has an interesting hobby: he restores old Dinky Toys. He started with the ones he played with when he was a little boy. Now he's looking on the Internet to find 'new' old ones to restore. I followed him doing that, and afterwards I interviewed him. This is the result. By the way: Hans buys his spare parts at www.modelcarpa... in The Netherlands.

Ja, hartstikke leuk. Het lijkt me ook een uitermate rustgevende bezigheid, en een mooie methode om de stress buitenshuis te houden. En zo'n aanbod op marktplaats: een grote vijver om uit te vissen, want het overgrote deel van het aanbod daar is 'chipped and scratched'. Vermakelijke opname!! mooie verzameling.

Je ne sais pas si vous comprenez le français , mais je suis toujours en admiration pour ces remises en état des miniatures au 1/43 , personnellement j'ai travaillé sur la même échelle mais c'était un tout autre travail je transformais des voitures de bases , en les démontants complètements , nouvelles peintures extérieures , éventuellement découpes pour en faire des cabriolets n'existants pas sur le marchés , chromages avec du barre chrôme pour les voitures qui en avais , intérieur refait avec extincteur levier de vitesse frein à main et compteurs kilométriques , passion quand tu nous tiens , moi c'étais de la peinture en bombe acrylique et les petits pots de peintures Humbroll , avec pinceaux en poil de martre , bra vo à vous c'est du beau boulot.
Je comprend assez le français pour traduire votre texte. Je passerais votre text à mon (ex) voisin, qui a fait cela. Moi, j'ai seulement fait le film! @@johnjoeflanagan Hello John, thank you for your kind words! But.... my skill is filming and editing, not restoring Dinky Toys! That is the skill of my former neighbour Hans. I just followed him with my camera in the process of the restoring. Afterwards I interviewed him, and in the edit I left out my questions. Because the car is from the 60's I choose music from that era. It's music I like, and with which I grew up.

Glad you did! I had no time to subtitle it. Now I am retired myself, so I have more time. I want to make English and Spanish subtitles. Have patience please! It's a lot of work. And I do not get payed for it....
Very nice restoration. Instead of painting with spray cans which do put a thick coat on and lose some details, it would be better to spray the cars using an airbrush and acrylic paints. The details are still there after a few coats as the paint is thin.
When painting the silver on the lights, it might be best to use a toothpick instead of a paint brush. Or you can buy chrome, silver or coloured paint pens. :)

Leuk filmpje, ik restaureer ze op vergelijkbare wijze, heb echter nog een tip. De ruitjes kun je weer mooi krijgen door ze te polijsten met licht polijstende autowas, kleine krasjes kun je zo ook er uit krijgen. Oh en koplampjes (rond) inschilderen met een drupje verf op de achterkant van de steel...

You have a lovely selection of old vehicles there. Some of which I've never seen before
I agree, but they are not mine! I only made this movie! My former neighbour is the Dinky Toy restorer! He told me about his hobby, and so I asked him if it was allright to make a movie of it, the whole process from finding a suitable one, and make it nice again. After that I interviewed him, and in the edit I left out my questions, only used his answers. The music is from the same era as the car, and it is music I like.
@@JandeBloois1952 That's ok. Fortunate you were in the right place at the right time. Was still good to see unknown models come to light. Some I've self restored, one or 2 others pre-done, others still factory finished. But as far as space allows, I've built up a miniature motor museum of engineering history ranging from 1935-1970 consisting of about 70+ cars & Van's. Plus 4 aircraft

Dank je wel, Johnny. Ik kan ook wel verklappen dat vrijwel alles vanaf statief is gefilmd. De camera die ik gebruikt heb was een Panasonic HDC-SD100. Deze heb ik 2e hands gekocht voor maar €100. Eén van de beste consumentencamera's van dit moment is de X920 van Panasonic. In feite een opvolger en doorontwikkeling van mijn camera. De montage is gedaan met Final Cut Pro X. Belangrijk bij het maken van een goede film is de cameravoering en het geluid. Als de camera doelloos heen en weer bewogen wordt, haken de kijkers af. En ook als het geluid heel slecht is, of er wordt zeer irritante muziek gebruikt, die voor het vertellen van jouw verhaal NIETS toevoegt, dan haken de kijkers ook af. Succes met jouw filmpjes.

super, goede informatie maar toch een vraagje, heb je bij het spuiten uit een spuitbus geen last dat naden zoals kofferbak/motorkap dicht gaan zitten ?
barracuda bloo Hallo! Ik had de vraag aan mijn buurman doorgespeeld, maar hij heeft momenteel problemen met zijn computer. Zijn antwoord: bij het spuiten gaan minder details verloren dan met lakken met een kwastje. Meerdere dunne laagjes is de truuk. De naden bij kofferbak, motorkap etc. zijn bij een kaal gemaakt model in verhouding tamelijk diep. Hier is bij het maken rekening gehouden! Meerdere dunne laagjes dus! Groeten.

Tof filmpje! Hoop dat ik mijn oude dag ook zo mag doorbrengen!! Wellicht een tip: ik weet niet of hij nog steeds met Alabastine werkt, maar HG Verf Krachtafbijt is tegenwoordig (mijns inziens) de beste verfstripper voor diecast wagens. Simpelweg een nachtje er in hangen en dan afspoelen met wat water en eventueel een staalborsteltje.

Indeed, that is what Hans (my neighbour) says (in Dutch, no subtitels yet, sorry). That is why he prefers to spray them. Only the front- and rearlight cannot be sprayed. Thanks for your reaction.

Hallo boxy pandora. Ik zou het doen zoals mijn buurman deed. (ik heb namelijk alleen maar de film gemaakt). Op Marktplaats op zoek gaan naar een model wat je aanstaat, en dan gewoon beginnen. Zoals met alles krijg je alleen ervaring door het te doen. Voordeel van deze hobby is, dat -als je niet tevreden bent- je de Dinky Toy weer helemaal kunt strippen en weer overnieuw kunt beginnen! Zo krijg je steeds meer ervaring. Maar ik zal je vraag ook doorspelen aan mijn overbuurman, misschien heeft hij nog tips voor je!

Thank you! And you are right: I Googled for pictures with 'usa licence plate sunshine' and there they ware! I don't think my ex-neighbour, who restored the Corvair, does care, since it is his only Dinky Toy with a license plate! I urged him so place it, so I made two. I found the right font, and the aspect-ratio. The rest I fantasized myself! But thanks for mentioning it! California seems to be called 'The Golden State'. Better next time!

Doe ik altijd met blikken speelgoed die ik restaureer. je komt met die glasparel in elk gaatje of hoekje. en met verfspuiten altijd een mondkapje dragen, want er zit tolueen benzeen in die lak. Voor de rest ben je wel redelijk goed bezig.
