This thing gets scorching hot on turbo. Kids holding this may end up burning themselves if they're not careful. I've run it down for a full 3 minutes on turbo and it was almost impossible to touch the power switch... I found the sweet spot to be the 200 lumen mode, as that's a perfect blend of brightness and runtime, with 900 lumen mode being the highest setting I'm comfortable using while indoors. I totally agree that the 20 lumen mode is ridiculously understated. That being said, it's amazing to simply run that as the mid mode, and it's plenty bright enough to walk around the house or a campsite in.... Initially I bought it for the wow factor, as this thing is incredibly tiny for the 3000+ lumens it briefly puts out in turbo. But when locked into the 200-900 lumen modes, it actually is quite useful as a duty light.

You've certainly nailed the ups and downs of this light which I've been carrying for the past 3 weeks. The dedicated magnetic charger easily slips out of place when charging and therefore stops charging and needs to be adjusted. The system isn't nearly as good or efficient as the Olight one on the tail cap. As you say, a very interesting enthusiast light but not one I would depend upon for EDC or travel due to the internal and low capacity battery. However I realized the limits in such a package. Still a fun light to bring out occasionally for the night time walk! So glad you reviewed this one! 👍🔦👍

so this fancy gadget that is advertised & reviewed all around the internet for (allegedly) having a mind-blowing 4000 lumens, is (at best!) actually just scraping over 3000 lumens?

  • @ayokay123

Great video! I'd have really wanted a true low 20lm mode because I find that extremely useful. That, and the fact that it maxes out at 3,000 lm instead of the advertised 4000 means it's a no go for me. Tis a shame because it's so reasonably priced. If Imalent ever addresses those two issues, I'm on board. Lots of great features, including good spacing for the lumens.

    @guitfiddle Před rokem +1

I like it, but definitely not going to end up in my collection anytime soon. Too odd and I really like to be able to swap batteries especially on small, high-drain lights. The FWAA comes to mind immediately. I have a custom FWAA with 2X 519A @4500k and 1X W1. It is super floody with the 519's but keeps a nice white hot spot with the W1. Sweet little pocket torch, but suffers from short run time and a really finicky rear cap that if not perfectly tight, will cause erratic light behavior. Thanks again for your many reviews and how-to videos. Appreciate your efforts sir.

One quarter of the LED still has power when it's turned off and it's as if it is on a true moonlight mode even though it doesn't have a super low moonlight mode. Very disappointed. Should have compared it to a kr1 with the same emitter and the tiny 18350 battery and tube.
And have you heard of placing the charger on the ld70 in reverse thus killing the light?

I don’t have a KR1 with anything larger than a 3535 emitter. I could have used my AceBeam E70, but that’s such a larger light, not really fair.
As far as putting the charge on reversed, 1) I haven’t heard anything, but 2) seems like you would have to intentionally mess that up. The magnets auto align it correctly.

I wanted to love this light. After watching your review 2 things killed my enthusiasm. 1. Non-removable battery 2. Runtime on the 18350 battery. If this exact light was in a 18650 or even better a 21700 battery it would make more sense. One of my favorite lights is a 18350, the speras m4, and it has a great runtime for the size. But that runtime is because it tops out at 1300 lm.

Is the purpose to light up something from far away? If so then I’d recommend high candela. Also, are you expecting to have the light on from when you launch it? Meaning you need to click it on then let it stay on for the duration of the drone’s flight?

Interesting light for sure but if going for pocket monster on a 18350, would you personally rather have something like a D4V2 with 18350 tube and equipped with W2s? Should be around 4k lumens or possibly a bit more. A DT8 with W2s can get to around 9000 lumens.

    • @cheule

That being said though, it’s a cool party trick and does have some utility being used at lower 200/900 lumen outputs as it’s a nice form factor.
The charger really bothers me, it’s hard to even get it to stay charging in a moving car, turn a corner and suddenly it’s off again.. I wish the magnets were better aligned, or that it had a USB C port.

That’s fair, although in practice I never missed a clip.

not worth. with that price, and built in battery it's a struggle. i used it for repair work, the magnet sucks every tiny metals and becomes unchargable. the charging cable is unique, you cant charge it if you lose the charger. i didnt lose mine but became unchargable in a couple weeks of daily use. it's a good flash light for office workers. not for labour jobs.

also to add, the taps make it unusable in urgent scenarios.

I REFUSE to purchase any flashlight that has a built in battery pack that's not replaceable. PERIOD.

I can understand that, but I also get what a flashlight this small would forgo the battery compartment with springs and threads for a tail cap.

Total rubbish, I’ve just purchased this light , beam throw more like 50 meters , not 203 as imalent state in turbo mode, turbo lasts all of about 20 seconds before it creeps down to 900 lumens , even at 2000 lumens the light creeps down to 900 after about the same time, this light is not fit for purpose over 900 lumens , the Cree led is to big for the light body , so expect to be let down outdoors when you need that extra power, imalent need to go back to the drawing board
