"The Resident Evil Game That Can't Be Remade" | Kip Reacts to IGN

- Fellow Legends, welcome! Today we have a reaction to the argument that one of my favorite games, Resident Evil 5, cannot ever be remade. From a popular games journalism outlet, this ought to be very insightful and intriguing. I've played a lot more Resident Evil 5 than almost anyone else I know, and it's a rather interesting game. But, does this argument hold weight? Can it truly never be remade, especially after the Resident Evil 4 Remake's success? I do recommend that you go ahead and check out IGN and the original video if you agreed with their statement or perspective. However, it's a rather odd one that they made.

Re 4 has you killing Spanish zombies
IGN: I sleep
Re 5 has you killing african zombies set in AFRICA
IGN: REAL SHIT
Reminder that IGN gave RE 5 a 8/10
It's such a wild take from them that's definitely in a vaccum.
It's correct to point out that RE4 by their logic also runs afoul of these "ethics".
europeans are not humans...(european mumbling)🤣
It's like the white scale joke from Family Guy, except in reverse.
IGN proving once again, "You can't spell IGNorance without IGN."
I remember having a convo about thus with a... Let's say "woke" friend a few years back.
They asked me how I could love RE5, and I did and atill love RE5, given it's just a game where you shoot innocent black Africans...
I told them "No no no, I am shooting zombies. If I wanna shoot innocent Africans, I'll play Far Cry 2."
They fucking lost it, and I couldn't stop laughing.
😂 Far Cry 2 enemies were not innocent. They would not hesitate to ram a car right into you!
Man, talk about out of touch.
IGN did that video in bad faith, plain and simple. I also find it funny that their vid has like 30k dislikes and about 3.1k likes at this time. Anything that proved them wrong, they refused to mention at all.
The reason the editing is so haphazard, is because the editor was just sick and tired and baffled as the rest of us so put in the exact same effort the script writer did for this video
It's actively against the best interest of a shock journalist to explain their opinions.
They get their sharable power by leaving viewers incredulous.
This also got them hundreds of thousands of impressions and engagement. Even if their like to dislike ratio is a factor of 10, it's still engagement.
Honestly if they do remake it I wouldn't mind them tone down the action a bit in favor of horror, but only just a bit. The tribal area for example could be a slower paced zone between two more acrion oriented set pieces muxh like it is in the original, but with the horror upped more.
Heck, I'd like a slightly extended intro sequence to really drive home just how wrong everything seems to be with the people there and how they're behaving. Make it more uncanny and uncomfortable.
also you can tell they havent really payed attention in resident evil 4 remake because they just said the ada campaign was uncannon and was assignment ada which it isnt separate ways is the cannon story of what ada was doing during the events of resident evil 4 assignment ada which isn't in remake was the non cannon not to mention he thinks wesker dosnt have a plaga sample when we know he dose from krauser plus i also enjoy 5 and 6 they are really fun
IGN really put out an odd video on this one. It just reeks of unresearched talking points.
I do wonder if the remakes of RE5 and RE6 would be better than what they were originally, Especially 6.
5:51 imagine keeping the first rifle from the beginning of the game, couldn't be me
9:11 Oh, come on, L*ckers are a bad word?
11:52 And just like that, *"Everyone hated that"*
13:16 DS2 Dragonrider in co op be like
14:30 It appears IGN forgot their Resident Evil Lore
16:42 Ah, yes "A diseased population that needs gunning down, via western intervention." I too am a fan of "No Russian"
16:52 CHRIS, WHAT DID THEY DO TO- oh, it's just the trailer.
19:36 wut.
19:43 goofy ahh jump.
19:47 I wonder if that's pre-RE5 Chris' voice.
21:32 At this point, I want to stop asking, but wut?
22:22 They must have missed something. They HAD to have missed something, right?
22:34 Smooth Criminals?
22:58 Y-Yeah, now where did my phone go and why is there a brick with a string attached to it.
RE5 and the "black evil". Boy was this a topic
Also mind RE4 you gunned down a village of "europeans" and RE6 the "asians"
@@sam007695 Spanish specifically at that, so technically brown Europeans by their own logic.
Thing is, OG RE4 did actually get minor hate for exactly that but it was quickly laughed out of existence.
@@CommanderRedEXE I know but I believe the game never verbally acknowledges Spain which is a meme on itself.
@@sam007695 It doesn't, though it still heavily implies given the village was literally named Pueblo.
That said, I actually think they were smart keeping it solely Western Europe. Keeps it vague. Africa for five is equally vague despite the idiots screeching, which is ironic as it's the same ones claiming all of Africa was super dark skinned always, despite literal evidence otherwise.
By the way...the video's comments are turned off. They knew this would be an issue. As a person of color, i loved RE5 and RE6. I think it's mostly because I would rather mow zombies down and learn as i go than solve a million puzzles, get frustrated and find a guide to find out the solution was standing in front of me, causing further frustration.
I bought Revelations 1 and 2 just for the Raid mode alone and i have spent more hours on that than the story mode. A travesty, yes, but it's how im wired, please don't send Leon to kick my ass 😂
IGN has always been shitty with their coverage of games. Anyone remember how they butchered their coverage of Kingdom Hearts 3? I do. Never forgave them.
RE5 does deserve a remake, so does 6. Both continue the story of Resident Evil and while i admit the sudden jump from Survival Horror to action is jarring, but I think thats what makes them charming.
Sorry for the essay, but I feel like publications like IGN stir the pot like this on purpose. They know what they're saying is horseshit, but it makes them money because people are talking about it.
IGN ign'ing all over the place I see.
I was expecting a well-written and thought out video, boy was this a weird one.
milla jovovichs appearance in a resident evil game would be nice for once
16:30 Wasn't there also a file in that area that said the tribe/village was peaceful and trying to modernize but after someone went in offering jobs in the mines and medicine they started to act strange going more tribalistic like in RE4 the villagers started to become more hardcore cultist after the Las Plagas?
RE 5 is right there with my favorites. Did it start feeling like a different game once we got to the gun wielding infected, yes. But it certainly didn’t take as bad of a turn as RE 6 did.
I am waaaaay more interested in how they gonna remake Dead Space 2. After introducing a sandbox that is entire Ishimura, how are they going to implement entire city on Titan?
I thought EA came out and said Dead Space Remake didn't make enough sales, so they won't be remaking Dead Space 2?
"Everything can be done, if you don't care about consequences"
I'm sorry I enjoy resident evil 5 it's not like two or three but it's a fun game and set ups so much lore thanks kip for you made really good points
A big problem with horror games like resident evil is story progression wise. When you play as a character that has delt with so much horrific shit that they are canonically now experts on the subject and learned to effectively take out enemies that where only so dangerous when you are in the dark the horror elements don't hit like once before.
Story yes can have many flaws, but when you build a world you must remember that the progression of story will have an impact. Like deal with an re2 basic zombie a hundred times and it just becomes a walk in the park.
Horror is a very delicate genre because the unknown is the biggest element that fuels that horror. Dosent matter how heavy the visuals and gore is it becomes just a spectical real fast when done plenty of times. Makes no sense for someone like Leon or Chris to be so heavily bogged down when they have already done this stuff a dozen of times. Horror will only naturally lean out of horror after some time when you focus on characters like this. Setting and circumstance also heavily change that flow. Horror is common to limit your options, but once you have options horror is not quite the same.
To paraphrase Wardaddy and Bible from Fury:
Wardaddy: Bible, what country are we in?
Bible: Africa.
Wardaddy: What do they have in Africa?
Bible: Africans.
lets be honest resident evil 5 was fun in co-op until the middle of the last boss fight. after that it was hard with no knowledge of it.
I didn't really have others to play with during my time with Xbox 360 Resident Evil 5, so I had to Solo Profesional it. The AI leaves a lot to be desired. You give them something with high damage as they never really go for headshots. I think it worked until Resident Evil 6 seemingly used the same engine. Love both RE5 and RE6, but I'm definitely not blind to their faults and why people have issues with them.
@@KipReacts I feel you on the AI I filled Sheva up on magnum ammo and gave her the M500.
yeah this is just a bad vid from IGN, very disingenuous with the game.
Hell the VAs defended the setting back then too with a great quote by TJ Storm, "Its in Africa! its been in Antartica, its been in I think in Spain, its been in the Midwest. It wasnt racist then why should it be racist now? Have fun with the game! play the game!" and even pointed out there is some variety with arabics and europeans also being infected. Karen Dyer (sheva) sums it up that you arent gunning down innocent, non-infected africans. Just the zombies and any who help Wesker's plans.
Thank you for citing that quote. It really was such an L take from IGN.
Is it a hot take to say solo playing RE6 is more fun than RE5? If only because you don't need to micromanage the AI with ammo and health in 6. Man kinda feeling like replaying RE4, 5, 6 and Rev2.
0:21 This has GOT to be PS3...
It is. I played a bit of RE5 and found it out firsthand.
The longer this went on the more convinced I was IGN was on a hate rant of the game just because
"an unholy hybrid of resident evil, gears of war, and call of duty."
This is inaccurate. IGN is coping HARD on this take.
This whole take was so incredibly weird.
I too agree that RE6 was imperfect, but I've enjoyed for the action more than the horror. 4 was scary. 5 was a fair mix for me. 6 was action-packed, if a bit underwhelming outside of that.
My only explanation for the black protagonist part is either A: he did no research and was told the bare minimum about the game. Or B: he means black as in Black that Shiva isn’t politically black aka a walking stereotype of a black women.
Remember, when racism apparently wasn't real, IGN gave Resident Evil 5 a 9/10.
I liked 5, apart from the dumb AI,that annoyed me
As a African there are more black people in Africa to other colored people. Dont qaut me on this but I think the Resident Evil 5 is correct in there scaling for the area that it is made for. I think it is like 80% black dont qaut me on it so his agrument das not have any sway in that area as wel.I am a part of the 20% of people in Africa that are not black
They...
They DO realize, that it would actually be MORE racist, to have only white zombies, in a zombie outbreak, SET IN AFRICA, right..?
Actually, the fact that they even made the video, PROVES that they don't.
I've never seen them complain about another setting before, in fact Raccoon City is based off of Chicago, so if they're going to complain about something, it should be why there AREN'T any zombies of color in Resident Evil 2, or it's remake.
Well...
Except for that one cop.
Poor guy...
It was a pretty L take from IGN on this.
Yes just change the tribal enemies
They'll just find something else to bitch about in the game if Capcom did
You mean the enemies that were given a proper in game explanation as to why they started acting tribal, were explained to have tricked into getting infected, and were some of the most memorable enemy designs in the entire game?
Nah. Capcom just gotta ignore IGN and their ilk and remake the game. Improve the areas in need of improvement(like gameplay and heavy reliance on QTEs), and keep the co-op but make the AI better for solo and maybe have it's own ammo reserves so it doesn't waste yours.
@@CommanderRedEXE the explanation why is no better in fact its worse also their ilk..... oh i see you are the other losers of the culture war.
@@CommanderRedEXE you do know the reason make it worse right also what do you mean by their ilk that better mean other reviewers and not stupid the culture war bullshit
@mr.ilikespam6081 Yes. It was referring to the supposed journos more concerned with the culture war than what they're meant to be making articles about.
Also the reason doesn't make the tribal stuff worse. It makes it more sympathetic when you realize they were deceived and the end result was effectively them becoming mindless monsters willing to kill tribesmen.
Wouldn't be any different than depicting Europeans going tribal. Oh wait, RE4 did exactly that. No one cared. No one should be offended in this case either.
