  • Our very careful MET office expect the next eruption to start very soon and they also expect a big earthquake near Reykjavik from a giant fault that seems to be moving now. I can't say it's a total surprise, I have covered that fault in earlier videos but the MET office is very serious about this.

Thank you for your sensible updates. Watching from Australia, and many channels seem to catastrophise the situation (honestly it is bad enough isn't it?). Your channel is calm, and gives the information as you know it. I appreciate your efforts.

Gylfi, I listen to your updates consistently because I hear the emotion in your voice when you describe the latest news. I keep tabs on what's going on there but mostly what I'm hearing elsewhere is very scientific, and rightly so. But you bring the humanity into the geology and I truly appreciate that.
I will be visiting Iceland for the first time in April. My heart aches for the citizens of Grindavík and I really wish there was some way I could help them when I am there. If nothing else, I'll pump as much tourist money into the local economy!

Right away I will admit I'm American. *ducks in case tomatoes or mortars start flying* I fell into (onto?) Your regular updates a little while ago and have been seriously hooked since. I remember (barely, I was 7) the little fit St. Helens had in '80. My mom even collected some of the ash. The Geological history of the planet has always facinated me. One of my favorite obsessions is this little "feature" that is Iceland. Thank you for taking the time to explain the history and processes at work without it becoming akin to a university lecture gently (mostly 😉) reminding us that as fascinating as the subject is, that we can't lose sight of the very serious impacts these events are having on the homes and livelihoods of the people in the area. Iceland is on my bucket list. (along with Pompeii, Anak Krakatau, St. Helens, Japan, the Hawaiian islands, among many other non-volcanic related sites. Unlike most Americans (yes, they drive me more than a bit crazy as well), I am a serious student of history, (along with another hundred or so topics) Both geological and archaeological (along with another hundred or so topics). There can be no such thing as too much knowledge. There should be no such thing as too much ignorance. Please keep safe everyone. No matter where you are.

I didnt know your footage last year was showing important areas that can now be compared to current footage for magma upwelling.
I’m surprised there are not more reports regarding the submersible sea floor Ridge observation near Iceland’s coast as this might show what’s happening under the actual country’s land now since it is believed magma upwelling may contribute to seafloor spreading of the Plates. If the plates are spreading on the seafloor I would think that could be contributing to the more intense action the land mass is seeing now.
Thank you for your very clear reports on what is going on in Iceland not only with the land, but the people, economy, and expectations for the possible near future.
    Much Appreciation Gylfi

Gylfi? My name is Dutch. I enjoy your calm and well considered videos. The dynamics of magma flow (liquid land) are still not perfectly understood, perhaps Grindavik will become a scientific colony for the study of it. I wonder if lava that flows up through these fissures makes the structure stronger rather than weakening it - or the reverse. Like 'HOT GLUE' being injected in the cracks ~But on a massive scale...
It is clear we need new kinds of technology to explore and map these events. How can we measure geologic stress in materials at various depths? This will present new ideas, I think

Safe travels. Will pray for good weather and as another person said, low impact from the next eruption.

Best regards from the Pacific Northwest of the USA - your updates are not only pragmatically delivered, but your imagery enhances the information with the added benefit of giving us a glimpses into your beautiful landscapes and the forces that formed them. I aspire to learn to fly my drone to capture images as you do! I have visited Iceland once in January 2015 & got to visit your lovely northern town. Travel well.

I don't know if it would be possible - now or later...funneling that heated water to a nother/ new and safe spot ? And moving house asap as able...seriously...who can say...but as much as they're able to salvage the most in any advance. I suppose it's easy to say...because of where I am...it's just what goes through my head on...much loss...bear up strong Icelanders...I feel other places are also going to experience. My faith is in a REAL GOD...❤

And it’s also looking like Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii is going to blow. It’s probably going to be on the nearly uninhabited SW flank.

Thank you for providing insight to this situation, it's hard to get a real impression of things via international news. Greetings and genuine well wishes from Norway.
