I would love to know what psychological screening is done if any before they hand an officer a gun. It’s the 21st century there are many less than lethal weapons that can be used as a replacement for firearms for officers. This is a prime example of easy access to a firearm resulted in murder. You take that one aspect of the crime away and there is no crime. Making it easy to resolve problems is why we have so many gun deaths in this country that aren’t had by protection of one’s self, family, or property but to take the lives of one’s self or innocent victims.

As a retired cop I can tell you the Psychological’s are pretty intense, the issue is the Depts make the final decision and with everyone screaming Diversity for the last 20 years, Depts have drastically reduced their hiring standards. In the State of NY you can be arrested for a Felony but as long as you’ve pled to or been convicted of only a misdemeanor they will hire you, I personally trained a female Officer right out of the Academy and she bragged about how when our Chief (who hired her) was a Patrolman she jumped him in a School Riot and opened him up and even though it was Felony she was allowed to plead to a reduced misdemeanor charge. She wound up getting injured and while working inside was giving info to gang members. Keep hiring based on quotas and not based on the best applicants off a strict hiring guideline and you’ll keep getting stuff like this happening.
