The Somalian “pirate stock market” you mentioned functions exactly the same as the early days of European exploration voyages being financed by local individuals. I find this to be an interesting repeat of history.
Also great video btw
😮
I said something similar in the shorts
16-17th century netherlands.
The major problem Africa has, all African countries, is that the Europeans who didn't know Africa political dynamics, came and set up countries without knowing that all Africans never migrated out of Africa, when other homo sapiens migrated out of Africa, so this has made Africans living Africa to trace their origin to even 10,000 years ago when most of african tribes has lived in their current location with their identity. So loyalty and patriotism lies to your tribes not the European artificially created countries where every tribe is in constant fear of domination by the other in the same country and that leads to massive corruption, bribery, election rigging, genocides and political instability. It's like going today in europe to bring England France and Italy to become one country. Each of the above tribes will be loyal to either their French or English tribe too and then leaving the country to rot because of constant fear of domination from another. Civil wars will be happening every 10 yrs. The only solution to the African mess and rescue the people from poverty is for the United Nations to agree and support any tribe in Africa to have their own country, and then naturally over time the very weak tribes will be assimilated into a dominant one and those leaving behind dominant countries where the people are patriotic to their countries which is also their tribe or nation.
No need to reinvent the wheel:D
It is one of the most depressing stories of a failed state. Told on Christmas Eve 🎄 Never change, dude.

This was an amazing video! I deployed to Somalia and worked with their army and people. I hope for nothing but the best for the people of Somalia.
This was an unbelievably incompetent video

2) used False Western made propaganda about genocide that started from a facebook meme 🤦🤦
3) literally forgot to mention Sayyid Abdullahi Hassan The Father of Somali Nationlism
4) And Obviously forgot to mention The Obvious Brutal Invasion of Somalia by US Army in 1993 and the Crimes of the Communist Ethiopian government and the crimes against humanity by the multiple westeen backed NGO's that facilitated these tribal conflicts
5) this video has a dangerous habit of using pro western propaganda about facts that just don't exist on the ground in somalia, like for example the "Peaceful" Western backed SomaliLand Administration is currently facing accusations of crimes against humanity and several sepratists movements

It would be really interesting seeing you cover what just happened (mining ⛏️) this year in my country panama, and how surreal it could be to foreigns.
For those who dont know, the government approved a horrible contract/law for minery (one we as a country pretty much rejected) and protests for like 5-7 weeks straights until it was classifed as unconstitutional

Could you make a video about Hiritohito's influence during WW2 because virtually no one mentions how the military had assassinated his brother and there had been been an attempt on him, leaving little choice but to obey the military
I declare my official 10,000,000% support for a breakdown on the battle of mogadishu! Read the report, watched the movie, and would love to hear more of context behind this event - what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how tensions with the US forces and the local Somali people were handled!!!!
100% is usually plenty.
American GI’s thought that they could bully the Somalis and next thing you know they were watching GI corpses being dragged through the streets by technicals on CNN

Especially considering what Ridley Scott just said about getting history correct because "you wasn't even there".
@@HortonSalm now, now. Ridley Scott shot the most historically accurate movie that the Pentagon would sign off on.
For anyone who doesn't know the US military will allow basically free use of equipment (limited in type and scope obviously) for movies however the Department of Defence has final approval on the script. I'm sure there are other criteria as well but the script one is the most well known.
I believe Riley expressed some regrets about it years later in an interview.

I am very glad to have a better understanding of what had happened in Somalia's history.
Personally, I have always wondered why Somalia had such a high piracy rate. The modern "pirate" I had ever heard about was accompanied by "Somali". Even the stuff I had learned about it in school was... Negligible at best. Too many teachers want to avoid the more spicy topics, but in a spicy world, its gotta be remembered what happened in history so we never repeat the tragedies again.

For me, Somalia shows that the title of "failed state" is a temporary one. Somalia has gone through some horrible things and they are still in a bad place, but they have greatly improved from the terrible place they were in during the 90s and 2000s.

In general, as long as there are clans there can be no State.
Because both are political entities that exert power. And sovereign power over a people and region cannot be shared.
Unless the merits of an overarching government are agreeable to the clans.
Every government everywhere rose up from clans, so, you know, all of history flies contrary to your statement.
@@B_Van_Glorious clans do not wield Imperium or any other of the sovereign powers, once the State is formed.

Being Somali myself I'm going to throw cold water on any hope for Somalia. This country and its people are FAR away from any positive development and globally raging climate change is only going to make things worse. There are only two things that matter in Somalia religion and Clan, very few people have any loyalty to a flag or a nation and the only possible government is theocracy. The majority of Somali diaspora born abroad don't speak the language or understand the customs hence making any benefit they may bring back from abroad difficult to implement. Unfortunately Somalia will stay failed for the foreseeable future and that includes Somaliland. Things look rosey to a outsider that may never set foot in the place but Somaliland is currently fighting war with minority Dhulbahante Clan in the east and there has been increasing inter Clan violence which sometimes resulted in the death of thousands of people. The government is hopelessly corrupt and there is almost no infrastructure built since the fall of Somali's government and a half of the country is cut off from the rest. Things are better though in Somaliland for a Somali standards because they're no terrorism or piracy, yet 🤔.
When was the last time you went to somali if its isn't recently stop talking please your ignorance is crazy have you seen the youth have seen the country its changing but offcours your little ass never came back how I see the way you commented.how many care about the clans now only some old people care most don't care its changing country

Great video, very interesting topic, just to clarify one thing, when you compare destruction of the Somali cities by Said's exterminators to Warsaw during II WW after uprising in ghetto in 1944 I think you combined two separate uprisings. There where two uprisings in Warsaw during WWII - Uprising in Warsaw ghetto in 1943 which resulted in the destruction of the ghetto and the next one in 1944 - Warsaw uprising and it is after that second uprising that most areas of Warsaw were destroyed by Nazis.

As Afghanistan showed the empowerment and enfranchisement of women in fundamentalist Muslim areas does not serve to strengthen the government in question but rather undermine it when the actual society does not make an equal pivot.
