  • FÈS is the religious and cultural center of Morocco. In this vlog, we go inside the medina and tour the city life, view the architecture, and explore the artisan crafts that made Fes famous around the world.
    1. Muslim Cemetery
The best view of the Medina of Fes is from the Muslim Cemetery which sits atop a hill.
    2. Fes el Bali - The oldest walled part of Fes Morocco founded between 789 and 808 AD. It has Andalusian design as opposed to Berber influence and it is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Medina is home to over 2,000 mosques and 80,000 people. It is filled with food shops, crafts, and artisans. The medina is a car-free city and the main method of transportation is by donkey.
    3. University of Al-Karaouine - The oldest university in the world established in 859 AD. We see the stunning traditional Moroccan architecture including the marble floor, tile walls, fountain, open ceiling and cedar wood work.
    4. Moroccan rug - One of the most famous artisan works is the carpets, which are hand woven by women. Some have traditional Berber designs while others are woven with the Fes blue color.
    5. Nejjarine Museum - We visit the museum of wood arts and crafts, a beautiful historic building with a rooftop view of Fes.
    6. Tannery of Fes - We get a tour of the tanneries in Fes, a huge outdoor leather making processing center where artisans work to color and tan the leather to create handbags, jackets, shoes, and more.

Shukraan Morocco 🇲🇦! Beautiful Fès 😍!
In the beginning of the video I mention that some of the architecture has Spanish influence - of course I am referring to ANDALUCÍAN (present day Spain) which was Islamic at the time. The purpose of the video is to showcase the beauty of Fès and I hope you enjoy the beauty of the Medina as much as I did. Thank you to the people of Morocco for welcoming us!

the oldest part of the medina called "FES EL BALI" was built in 789, and its architecture combined the berber, arabic and islamic architecture. the expansion of the old medina and its architecture depended on the dynasty rulling Morocco because each dynasty had its own specifics and different architectural styles. After the Reconquista in actual Spain and more specifically in Andalusia which had always been Under muslim ruler beforehand, the muslims living there had to leave Andalusia for many cities in Morocco, and that's when they added their own touch to the architecture of some building, but it's not spanish architecture! anyway VERY nice vlog and good luck with the rest :D

It would be better if u can be more specific, instead of muslims it would be better to use " Moroccans" because back then the Moroccan population was a mixture of Moroccan Jews, Moroccan muslims and berbers

P.S: it is not a spanish ingluence ,but it is Moorish influence that is also Moroccan influence in muslim spain & Portugal combined in Alandalus.
ceder wood 🪵 is from the Atlas mountains in Morocco 🇲🇦.
the dry pigeon poop doesn't smell but it is the dyied cow/ goat skin.

Your vlog is a wonderful summary of the beautiful and ancient city of Fes. We enjoyed learning about the culture and history. Your depiction of our walk through souq and meeting all the trades people was wonderful. Visiting the tanneries as well as seeing all the rugs, scarves and babouche shoes was special too. This was my second trip to Morocco and would love to return. Agree with those who commented about the quality of your videos. They get people interested in traveling and learning about cultures around the world! Keep up the good work, Run the Atlas!

Actually it's a huge mistake to say that fes is Spanish influenced , it's south of Spain who is moroccan influenced .
Moroccans have ruled south of Spain specially sevilla and Granada for 800 years , they built many gems and palaces there in a moroccan way ...so who ever visited Spain first thinks that morocco is influenced by Spain .it's vise versa

Wrong, Fes has not the Spanish influence but the inverse that is true. Volubilis exist since 40 BC a Berber city that after the creation of Fes they moved there. Volubilis was already known by it Moorish architecture long before the existence of Fes or south Spain civilization

I really liked this video, but there is a small mistake that u have made which is that they don't add pigeon droppings on cow skins, they add other liquids that give that smell, otherwise i hope that u enjoyed ur trip in my country, especially my city Fez!
p.s: i am in ur country for the moment!

انقلبت الآية كان المعمار في إسبانيا إسلامي و الان صار المعمار في المغرب إسباني لأنه منطق القوي يبلع الضعيف

Spanish influence?? I think you ve reversed the words, it is spanish cities that have moroccan influence with our traditional architecture and food . Fes is over 1200 years old with the oldest university in history and was the capital of several dynasties including the alaouites.

    Welcome to Morocco and Islam
My message is that Morocco is an Islamic country and that some criminals are not Muslims who are planning to distort and destroy beautiful religion and Islamic countries such as Syria, Iraq and Yemen ... "by saying that they are terrorism." I went In the tourist I discovered
I found modesty, honesty, generosity, kindness and compassion; compassion, mercy and tolerance
Note that most Muslims do not like alcohol "drug" and drugs and violence and immorality
I advise you not to believe lies about the religion of Islam and Muslims
I invite you to go to many countries of Islam and you will be impressed when you see its distinctive culture, good people and welcome all the time
