- 118 Miles down the Choctawhatchee River.... From dream to reality on my Gheenoe I was camping along the way. It wasn't easy and I don't desire to do it again with risks involved but it was a great and exciting trip!

Great video man. I did a 500 mile canoe trip from just south of Atlanta GA to the Gulf of Mexico. On the Flint River and the Suwannee River. Took about three weeks. Slept in old WW 11 Army surplus jungle hammocks to keep off the ground away from the snakes and feral hogs. Way back in 1954, I was 10 years old. It was with a YMCA Camp, about 18-20 of us and two counselors about 16. What a memory, I'll never forget.
I feel like a little kid waiting for my favorite cartoon to come on every time you put out a new video.
Ha! Nothing wrong with that Geoff!
I'm liking that you're visiting these springs a lot. Clear water has always made for the best film!
Really enjoyed your latest adventure and your editing is top notch too.
@@CC-CODER Thanks my man! I appreciate you giving it a watch, we had a good time on that trip.
Yea man, I can't get enough clear water...
Hey Trip, a little advice from an old Geneva river rat. 1) Wear some type of shoes when on the banks, and 2) ALWAYS carry a gun on this river !!! The trees and stuff in the water are a favorite place for those white belly worms with teeth, moccasins, to sun. I have killed many over the years including one that fell in my canoe !!!! Take along a manchette too :) :) Be aware of big lizards too. Also be aware of coyotes roaming the banks at night. I carry a single shot shotgun with the barrel cut to 19" , 18" is the minimum, for such occasions. Keep the great videos coming and most of all, be safe!!!!!
You don't need a gun to protect yourself from snakes. Just stay away. Coyotes also aren't a threat to humans(adults at least).
The best part about a trip is cruising slow and taking it all in why your in great spirit
Agreed! Good times.....
Made me homesick. I lived there for 7 years. Truly paradise!
Sure is Jim! Thanks for the comment!
Hunkered down on the barrier island in Satellite Beach, Florida as the most dangerous hurricane to threaten the Sunshine State in 100 years approaches while I sit and watch Trip Smith videos.......might be the last CZcams I ever see but at least I'm enjoying it. đ
Stay safe! Glad you had some entertainment to enjoy for a while lol
Thatâs awesome but looks like you survived đđ»
@@joshreed7102 Ohhhhh......did we get lucky with that one! Yes, I survived but if that hurricane had drifted another 75 miles to the west my community would have been thoroughly wrecked. That sucker hit Marsh Harbor, Bahamas with 185 mph winds with gust well over 200 mph....that's like a Pacific Typhoon! Florida really dodged a bullet this time.
That was the funniest trip dip ever
Yea I thought that would be a good one lol
For real
Iâve been to there at the blue hole
This was the first video of yours I have watched... And already watching another... Like all the scenery.. But mostly you are a lot of fun to watch...
Haha Glad to hear you are enjoying them! Thankya sir!
there great
Nailed it on the rope swing 9.7, 9.6, 9.8
Yes sir! lol
When you said trip dip and landed in ankle deep water đđđ
Trip really love your videos. Watched them nonstop when I was waiting to get my first kayak back in February. Awesome content. Thanks for taking us all along on your adventures and sharing your knowledge :)
Hey Holly, so glad you enjoy the video... You are welcome and I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Been down the Choctawachee, Yellow , Blackwater, Coldwater, Ecofina rivers by canoe.. Wonderful trips. In the 70s went night cave diving at Morrison, just drive up and dive...same thing at Vortex.. followed a cow trail to the spring. Did research on differences between Morrison and Cypress Springs. All springs are wonderful for the soul.. Please buy a funnel for use when pouring gas... Great video. Congrats for your planning, execution and endurance.
Oh wow! How cool! I've done some night diving in the caves myself ;) Yea, I plan on using a funnel or a transfer pump from now on. I certainly didn't like spilling the fuel.... Thankya!
TRIP, YOU ARE BLESSED, AN THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US!

The cypress knees at the "Honey Hole" were huge!
đ€Łđ€Ł If he yelled trip dip when you snuck up on them..
Those sand spurs are gnarly. Your feet must be pretty tough. Iâd be crying like a little baby.
Yes! I think they were actually stinging nettles. So they stick you and they sting for a while after the stick....
Another Great and amazing video!
Thanks Angel!
What an excellent adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
loving this..
Glad to hear it Gerald!
What an adventure!

Very adventurous trip there ;)
Gheenoes are truly the queens of adventure

I love all your videos !
Thankya much, glad you do!
Perfect boat for shallow water, used to live in Titusville where they make them. He reminds me of the crazy prisoner in The Green Mile, but all cleaned up (love that guy!) bring a dog next time for company, glad I found your channel!
lol Glad you enjoy the videos Steve!
They were not kidding about shallow areas, his wuick dip was splash too funny!!!!đđđ
Haha, no they werent..... Crazy.....
Wow!! So cool!
Glad you enjoyed it!!!!
Great video. The springs are so beautiful. In Florida they are so crowded (the springs) that it ruins the experience. What a fun trip, thanks.
Thanks Spencer! Yes they are pretty awesome and nice when no one is there
Very cool.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Weird seeing one of my favorite swimming spots (Crab Island) and restaurants which is right on the Marina after over 20 years. Tons of good memories in FWB and San Destin!
Glad you enjoyed it Bladen!

Safety insures a good time.
Great video.
Yep, it does.
3:43 earned like, right away
I took the grandkids on the buccaneer a couple years back looks like a great trip minus the log jam
Oh cool! I imagine I'll be taking my kids one day lol It was!
Oh yeah! I'm going to enjoy this one. A few years ago my dad and I did from 36 bridge to FL2, same trip you originally did on kayak. Your video actually gave me the inspiration and planning for it. I want to finish it out to the gulf starting at FL2 by next summer. Now I can actually watch your video and see all the highlights of the trip. This is going to be cool!
You know it! I remember yalls trip ;) Yea, I don't know how much fun it would be to paddle to be honest....
@@TripSmith yeah as I watched the rest of your video I saw it was a little bland. I think if I do it, it will be just for the challenge to do the whole river.
@@PADDLECAMPFISH I hear ya! I dunno, there are more beautiful and fun challenges out there.... but hey, go for it bud!
@@TripSmith yeah so many opportunities out there, I've been enjoying the springs in Florida this summer and there a blast!
Hey I did not know you been doing this for sometime, dang brother you been to some cool crazy spots! Thanks for the videos man.
Oh yea! Lots of good adventures back in the archives ;) You're welcome!
A cottonmouth swam by at 17:19. Love the content!
Maybe.,.. I think it was a stick.... Thanks!
ATX 2020. Great video, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! ATX 2020? Googled it and couldn't figure out what you are referring too.
@@TripSmith watching from Austin, Texas in the year of covid
Great video Trip!!! See you next month at R.O.D. 2019!!! It's beginning to get a little chilly up here in Michigan at night... Hope it's warm down there in Oct.!
Thanks Larry! OH yea it's plenty warm ;) Cya then!

Thanks Johnny!
Just. "Get Out There"! Yeah!
That's it!
Cool video brother. Keep on living.
Will do! Thanks!
Iowa represent! Those meatsticks are legendary!
Oh yea!!!! Good stuff!
Looked like a fun time. Been looking at the gheenoes.
It was a great time! Gheenoes are AWESOME, when you're on flat water ;)
An interesting small craft trip on the east side. Not the norm, thanks for sharing. When I was back there the Aucilla R. caught my eye, if I end up back in that part of the country, I will make a boat camping trip there. Hopefully no snow-cone barges by then.
Oh yea, loved this trip... I have more :not the norms" coming up ;) Ha, hope you make the trip happen sooner than later!
Awesome video.
Thanks Randy!
Loving it Trip! Binge watching your channel. Gilligan! Hahaha!
Glad to hear that Russell and thanks for digging up the old stuff!!! Always having fun :P
Lol! Ok, the egg breakfast had me rolling! Your face told me all I needed to know. Perhaps a endorsement? Lol!
Perhaps! Shoot I enjoy it lol
Love the videos watch all of them but one suggestion when we camp I have a solar panel that I hook to my skiff to keep batteries charged try it out and keep the videos going love em...
Thanks! That's an interesting idea.... I like it! Might have to figure something out.... Will do! More videos to come!
Great video buddy
Thanks Paul!
I've done that trip but stopped at hwy 20 at Ebro anyway the second an third springs you stopped at is called cedar or Ebro spring an the 18+ lol is called volts wagon spring by locals , you missed at least 8 other springs off the beaten path really enjoyed video
Nathan Gibbs, yes there's a lot of bass in those waters. Me and my wife will be going tomorrow.
Oh really Kelvin? Hate I missed them. If you want to share some info on them - tripsmith.live/contact Thanks for the comment!
I camped at the bridge over the Pea river in 1995 at Elba on my cross country bicycle trip. Ate at the barbeque place in Enterprise that evening. I left Gainesville Florida May 9th and right about July 4th we were in Seattle. Averaged 72 miles a day.
Oh cool! That's an awesome adventure there!
Great video! Iâve never been to crab island either, looks cool though!
Thanks Matt! Yea its certainly unique lol
That little spot you stopped at in Destin. me and my friend have went from Huntsville Alabama down there just to go to that lil dock and have caught multiple species from there
Oh very cool! It's a great area....

Thankya Andrew!
This video is epic brother!!! Can't believe there are so little views!
Hey thanks Danny! Share it up ;)
fun video.. might need a water impeller after all that shallow water..and happy birthday
Yea really lol Thanks!
New to your channel by one day, surfing youtube Kayak videos last night while bored at work. I'm liking your content, i've watched a few videos. Just wish you'd alway wear the life jacket. Got nervous you hauling azz across that water without one. Glad you finally put it on.
Glad you found the channel Dizzy! Yea.... I don't always wear one but if I feel the situation might warrant it then I have no problem putting it on. Hope you enjoy catching up on all the old adventures!
That Gheenoe is sweet!
Oh yea!!! Love it....
"A boat that can go in small creeks and handle rougher water"... That would be 14 to 16ft flat bottom Carolina Skiff! Love your skiff videos!đ€
Yes, that boat is capable. But I couldn't imagine filming with the flat bow crashing into each wave lol Glad you enjoy them!
@@TripSmithah yes, forgot they're not the smoothest ride lol. They do make a v-hull as well but rhey might not ride smooth as some other vhull boats on the market..
Awesome video man
Thankya Scott!
I am from santarosa beach FL. I love going on adventures
Cool deal!
I was worried about going alone, but not so much after watching your videos!
Glad to hear that! Go!
Made that trip up from ft Walton 12 times with the river rats going to festival on the rivers in Geneva. Made up and down everything without any major problems. Camped on that same sandbar you did.
Oh cool! I bet that was good times.
Look like a fun trip my daughter and her husband got a house boat around mossin spring's
Oh cool! Staying on a houseboat would be fun!
Bro u seem so cool. Good luck and be safe.

You won my subscription on this one. Wow.
Awesome Chris! Thanks for subbing man! Hope you enjoy the future videos and browse through some older ones ;)
Trip - fill the hard fuel cans with the flex fuel can. Then fill the motor fuel can with the hard fuel can. Fill the hard fuel can w/the flex fuel can on the beach so that you can use the ground or a tree limb to help you pour. AWESOME Video.
Good tips! Thanks!!!!
Great video, Trip! Brought back some memories. You already said it in your video, but I'll say it again: I don't recommend anyone try kayaking _ANY_ of the springs in this video (ask me how I know, LOL). We tried paddling our kayaks to the two Mill Lake springs just north of US20 a few years ago. There's a boat ramp near the confluence of Holmes and Choctawhatchee (closest public access). It's just too far paddling, and when you reach the spring run, the current is too strong to paddle against with too much foilage. The other spring just South of Geneva is also really too far on kayak between any put-in/take-outs, and unless the river is really low like in your video, the spring is really murky and underwhelming.
Thanks Ryan! Yea, that's kinda why I'd never been to them before, I figured it just wasn't the best of ideas... lol Thanks for the info!
When I got home my son said I know you watched trips video I saw your comments dad, can we go to crab island next weekend
Haha busted! Hope yall can enjoy some time Out There soon!
@@TripSmith well I told him if the weather not to bad we'll go this weekend
