All those parts will, I assume, be for better handling, more angle and improved reliability. Pretty sure the "close to stock" part of a seat time car is meant for the engine and drivetrain.
Lol you thought Taylor meant he was going to drift a bone stock suspension car with no hand break?
intake, exhaust etc to get more from a tune on top of suspension stuff. He explains everything rather well if you pay attention to the video.

I’m sad the Cefiro has too go but I’m Glad for this to channel more subscribers , I understand the concept of a lap time car. Can’t wait to see the new F 80 drift , always thought it was a dope car and I strong believe it’s going too compliment your drift style.

As an E90 owner I like seeing the bimmers on the channel but still love the other builds with the AE86 being my favorite

Hey just wanted to compliment you on the audio in the more recent videos, it has allways been decent but the highs for some reason were pitchy on the iPhone, but everything is crystal clear nice and flat now! Huge comfort for watching the new vids for sure. Also just wanted to say you definitely inspire me a lot to do more car stuff, hope to see the new Beamer sliding sideways in the next few weeks!
Man thanks for all that explanation. I do a lot of wrenching and fixing but just on normal stuff. I don't do any racing and never have. That was a really logical and nice run down of each car and each specific purpose.

i hope you put a towbar on this one for towing a small trailer like the drag and drive events style trailer bit for drift week plus you be able to take more tires if you go to local events
Taylor, one thing I can say about driving these quickly, if you do fast 1-2 shift you might need to relearn to pull straight back vs pulling sort of towards you lol. You'll catch the reverse gear gate which will stop you and possibly wreck the reverse gear selector lever.
I did this a few times in my 2014 335i MSport 6 speed. But man was it a buttery smooth perfect trans.

its interesting that the cefiro is the same exact situation that happened with fummins. did your best to consider and build a "best of all worlds" machine, tried it out, realized its not as good as you hoped, and then got something new. excited to see this on the channel!
I loved my BMWs that I've owned. Nice ride in all weather and can comfortably drive many miles. I always kept an inventory of spare parts though.

I can kinda see your logic -- and 100% a sick car! I'd just worry about smashing it into a wall at a drift event -- or somebody else totaling it during a tandem or something. Hard to write off something like that.
I'm sure he's already accepted the fact that the car is going to get damaged. Having another F80 M3 as a daily should definitely help soften the blow if it was to get totalled whilst drifting. The funny thing is that these are probably cheaper to repair than 90s JDM cars these days lol.

There is some important advice in here for any car hobbyist… it’s easy to see the big bad fully built rigs and want one so bad. But as taylor said, there is always a trade off. This applies to drifting, drag racing, off-road, whatever you can think of. The more you build it the less you can drive it!

Love that you love the manual in this car. While the DCT is cool it just doesn't have the same level of engagement.
IRP lock kit and lockout on the diff instead of electric motor and you have perfect drift car, good choice!

Absolutely love the wheels you have on those M3s. I really enjoyed the Cefiero build process, but didn't love it as a finished car. The rattles alone made it tough to be a street car. Glad you are going this route instead.

This is literally the best "should I modify my car (for any reason)" video. I've gone back and forth a million and one times about modifying my vehicles. You put it so perfectly, "...the further down the rabbit hole you go, the less reliable it (the vehicle) will be." You modify an engine, have to upgrade the transmission. You upgrade the transmission, you have to upgrade the remaining drivetrain. You modify the drivetrain, you have to modify the suspension. On and on. I've come to the conclusion that us car enthusiasts should just buy a vehicle that fits your bill and you can tinker on (much like your white BMW) and call it a day (unless you're competitive and/or have the resources). Great video, Mr. Ray!! Very insightful.

My first local drift event as a spectator, there was a guy with a e36. It was all gutted with suspension and all that good drift stuff. It was loud and nasty. Dented and bent to shit, but the driver loved to get as close to wall tapping and sending it. That's probably what got me intro drifting and then Formula Drift in general.
I've never owned a BMW, but have owned 2 Volkswagons and, yes they are a handful on maintaining and electronics going wrong from my experience.
My uncle always told me if you wanted to keep something German made run right, change the oil more than you should and take care of it. Something about hearing a straight six get up to revs and drift is unique on the sound. 👌
2 sets of comp wheels is nice for the white car.. normal tires for daily use and another set with sticky track tires 5min swap and good to go😎

Not sure I’m sold on it. I get the reasoning between 2 of the “same” cars but from experience I can tell you you’ll get bored and want a different platform for either category (daily or drift street). At first it’ll be really neat to compare the two, I’d love to see a comp vid driving with the trans difference

I never saw anyone have as much faith in a BMW being reliable as Taylor in this video. If it would be a stock 328i E36 I'd say maybe, but this seems like a bad idea.
This makes a ton of sense to me because I have a mostly stock b16 in my civic and a completely stock transmission and just coilovers and I beat the craps out of my car all the time and all I have to do is oil changes

I have an M140i with LSD it’s a great seat time car 430bhp with a stage 1 tune. I hated the n55 though, couldn’t drift it without getting the s55 oil pan and over filling the oil so it doesn’t spin rod bearings(happened twice to me) loving the B58 though

Honestly, makes total sense. Nothing about this stands out as odd given you have the daily F80 M3. And you love this platform. I bet you'll love it even more as you make this one more drift oriented.
Other than the crank hub (which has a fix) and the sound (gotta go single to get rid of that sound), they are great cars.

Even an e46 would be an epic seat time car. I used to hate them till I got my 330ci coup, and I enjoyed how it drives and the comfort. Couldn't ask for a better daily to be honest

25:55 back up cameras were mandatory in 2018 so that is why that 2017 model does not have it
