When you asked Evie what she wanted to do next and she said “Who me” it melted my heart 🥰🥰🥰
I love the idea of controlled choices.
In addition to Yes Days, consider trying “yes and” when a child’s request is acceptable but not necessarily at the time.
Ex: Mom, can I go to the store?
Instead of saying a flat no, try saying “Yes, and I will take you with me when I go Thursday.”
Or “Can I have a cookie?”
“Yes and I will get it for you after dinner.”
While children should certainly hear and learn to accept no, it is equally important that children learn to manage expectations and time constraints. “Yes and…” will help them learn patience and eventually learn time and schedules.
Since many times our “No” really means “not right now” it also helps parents save absolute Nos for big things like
“Can I ride to the party with---? “

As a teacher and foster mum, there is value in parenting from the positive instead of the negative. I think sometimes we get weighed down in day to day life, and our language changes. It's always good to stop and think about how to talk with awareness and purpose.
I love that you and Aaron took Evie alone to Walmart and donuts. It's so so important for them to feel special and get alone time to bond with mom and dad with no other distractions. ❤

The moment she grabbed the bar and asked the little girl if she wanted to go first I cried lol she is the perfect addition to your family and I've always believe that she's always so kind. She's such a sweet little girl.❤
I rarely comment but this was so lovely to see Evie having time alone with Aaron and Crystal. I definitely think she needs this regularly, just her with you. She seems to be flourishing and is so appreciative of things as she is not used to this like others. So happy for her.

Evie is so excited opening her new scooter. She is such a sweet young lady. I am so happy that you gave her a yes day she has been through so much in her young life. She deserves this so much. I loved when u said evie could get sandels n water shoes n she said thank you n face she wants to match her sister. When she got on scooter n said jamie n i can share so sweet, kind hearted n bubbly. I love how even with 18 kids u make point to do 1 on 1 n even tho was yes day i bet u learned more things about her without just bombarding her with questions. The excitement to get scooter out bless her.

I love that Evie wants to twin with Aurora. It's so sweet.😊 Even though her favorite color is pink or purple, she opted for the blue to keep hers separate from Aurora. Wanting to share her razor with Jaimie is just too darn adorable. I love the bracelet she received and Aurora's reaction to the towel was so real.😂
Evie is not only sprouting up quickly, but I can tell a big difference from when we were first introduced to now. Evie, you are a wonderful young lady and it is sweet that you want a swim suit like Aurora's and to share your scooter with Jamie. Don't ever change Evie.
Boy did that bring back memories. I was 9 years old, being called into the principals office and 2 sheriff's waiting for me. The next thing i know, it was the sheriff's office, the cps office, and then a house. Though the sheriff's took me to McDonald's
Me too. But I was 15 and when I walked into the office I saw my younger brother who didnt even attend our school. My mom had attempted suicide and family was coming to pick us up. Lucky my mom got help and is here today.
Principals offices meant you were in trouble but after that day I feared the worse being called to the office.

@divingtodonate2021 I'm a teacher but also a foster Mum. One of my kids (fosters kids) went to the school I taught at. His social worker wanted him to have therapy after school at the school and I refused. My parents offered their house for it which was just 5 minutes up the road and because I said no to the school setting they said it couldn't go ahead. The therapist was only an art therapist student and didn't feel comfortable going into people's homes alone. They did two things wrong, the first being wanting him to have therapy at the only place that he had as a constant and safe place and secondly letting a student therapist treat an extremely volatile, angry and aggressive child without a qualified therapist observing. It's unfortunate that children in care have many triggers when some could be avoided. I'm so sorry that the way things happened for you meant the school office was where you experienced trauma making you fear being called to the office. I hope that your life is good, that you are happy and I wish you all the best. 😊❤

I'm sooo HAPPY for Evie and you both, and it's also great for Aurora. Im sure even with the girls having an amazing bond it has been a huge adjustment for Aurora, she's used to the attention and being the only little girl.
Evie gives whatever she has to everyone, so polite and always thinking on everyone else.
She definitely deserves space to grow and shine without her sister, it's healthy for both of them to develop their personalitys and uniqueness.

My mom used to do this with us. She would just wake up and say let’s go get breakfast and shop. Every year before school we would go up to birch run which has a lot of outlets

I think she might have guessed when they were at Walmart and she was slowly naming more things she wanted to get, like she was trying to work out if her mum would keep saying yes 😂
How was Aaron able to stand by and watch those boys take care Evie and Aurora? That was so cool watching them try to help Aurora on the climb wall and help Evie on the zip line. And oh so very cool of Evie letting that little girl go first.
Evie looked almost scared but also happy at Walmart. You could tell that was healing for her.

I love that Evie is so considerate saw the little girl and immediately gave her a chance. I want to keep seeing Evie in the videos to get to know her. ❤
Might just be me, but I find the boys don’t engage with Evie. At the park, nobody tried to help Evie climb up the wall, but there were lots of arms for Aurora. I think Evies exuberance and shrills get to be too much sometimes. Evie tries very hard to be acceptive, yet other than Aurora and Scarlet, I do not see the older kids with Evie. That is sad and I think the other kids should do things with her. It is obvious she lost her parents and is desperate to be accepted and loved.
You have to realize that she came a situation that could include trauma - physical or mental. Crystal explained before the adoption that she is catching up socially and mentally to her age group. Yes there is a difference between her and he4 age level, but that has already improved as well as Aurora. They are a new family, and she is doing things she probably never thought of doing. This is my opinion and it comes from working with special needs kiddos in a school district. She will catch up and crystal and Aaron know how to deal with this progression.
@@sunnyklampe7773 thank you. I realize that, but the others in the family don’t engage with Evie, most likely because she is trying too hard to be included. The other kids from foster should be helping her to adjust. But the others recently adopted came with siblings. Evie has been on her own. I cannot imagine her trauma. I was just pointing out what I viewed. The older kids should rewatch the videos and look at their body language towards Evie and make some changes. Evie deserves the same close bond of siblings like the others, it is sad to watch Evie try to engage with her siblings and they ignore her. That makes things more difficult for Evie to overcome obstacles in life. She is a remarkable, kind and generous person.

@@margaretmacgillicuddy4944I understand what you are saying but you have to remember that we only see a snapshot of their day. We have no idea how they all react off of the camera. It think it would be good to give them all grace at this point.

They most likely are not trying to exclude her, but like you mentioned she can have high energy which may not be everyone’s cup of tea ALL of the time. Evie is so sweet, as are all the other kids, and I’m just glad she’s smiling and enjoying her new home.

The sport sandals were cute and practical- I used to have a pair of Merrill’s- they’d were the best- you could go in the water and not have to worry( our beaches in bc could be quite rocky). In Switzerland we have lakes and rivers tap water shoes were handy
