2005 Yamaha Raptor 660R not revving up SOLVED

  • This 2005 Yamaha raptor would not rev up. I thought for sure it was the carburetor because it kept falling on its face when you hit the throttle.
    I read several threads about the CDI box issues. DO NOT BUY A CDI BIX ON AMAZON! I first found a broken connector and thought that was the problem and realized I did not have the green and yellow wire that was for the reverse cut out. I ordered a replacement CDI box for $36 on Amazon which was made in China and when I installed it it did not even start correctly at all. The starter and spark were different. I also suspected the coil for the spark plug and replace that as well.
    Replacing the CDI box and ignition coil did not fix the problem. After looking closer I found the black wire on the eight pin connector to the CDI box was separated. I also realized someone had already cut all of the Warriors on these connectors and re-connected them. I spliced and forced the black wire into its original eight pin connection location and the four wheeler started up but it still had issues. I then added a ground from the Green and white wire on the four pin connector. With these two corrections the Yamaha raptor 660 R is now able to throttle and I’m planning to test drive it today.
    I was unable to find anyone that sells for eight pin connector or the four pin connector for the CDI boxes and I do not want to buy an entire wiring harness. Let me know if anyone knows someone that sells connector

      Glad it worked for you. This was not a great video. I found the wire is also located under the left footpeg and can be disconnected there and grounded to the case too. Thank you for watching

    That hose is your crankcase ventilation tube that hooks to the rubber snorkel on the airbox lid. You need to put a filter on the hose so you're not sucking up dirt & dust into your crankcase.

      Thanks, this raptor was missing the air box lid, after I ordered one I noticed the boot to connect the hose. These 660 run much better on stock pipe and filter. I did replace the jets to a 145 on left and a 155 on the right and also a 25 for the pilot. It’s running great now.

      I am not sure if you read some of the comments but there is the same wire underneath the left foot peg. This wire is for the reverse sensor. If you ground this wire to the chassis it will also solve the issue

    • @jakemir
      @jakemir  Před rokem +1

      Look under your left foot peg and there should be a warrior going to a switch. That is your reverse safety switch. Remove that one wire and ground it and that should solve the problem too. This will bypass your reverse safety switch so when you are in reverse, it allow the user to go full throttle so be careful. This is the rev safety switch that fails and causes the bike to think it is in reverse all of the time.

  • @jakemir

    Another way to repair this issue is on the left side of the motor underneath the foot peg there is a green and white wire going to the reverse sensor. If you remove this wire and ground it to the chassis or the motor it will solve the issue.

    • @jakemir
      @jakemir  Před rokem

      You can ground the wire under the left foot peg. Should be green and black. The sensor under the left foot peg is the reverse sensor. If it does not work the CDI thinks you are in reverse and cuts out power.

      @jakemir  Před 10 měsíci

      It will not help. It is the reverse safety. Ground the reverse safety wire and it will fix the issue. Reverse safety is under the left footpeg and just needs to be grounded to the engine

    • @jakemir
      @jakemir  Před rokem +1

      The engine or any metal part on the four wheeler is a good ground. A better way to do. It is look under the left foot peg and you’ll see the green and white wire there on a small switch. That is the reverse switch sensor. Remove that wire and connect it right to the engine by unscrewing one of the screws slightly and wrapping the way around it and tighten it.

    • @jakemir
      @jakemir  Před 2 lety +1

      Ground out the reverse sensor so the ECU knows it is not in reverse and activating the rev limiter. If you look under the left foot peg you will see a green and white wire on a sensor, found out that wire

      Let me know if you need any help with it. You got a great deal. If it has an aftermarket pipe or intake you will have to jet the carb. I jetted mine about six times before I found the right combination. I would recommend staying with the stock intake and muffler but still jetting it. My 2005 660 was faster than my 2015 700 EFI raptor because of jetting it right

      Mine was jetted 145 left and 160 right. The pilot jet also need to be increased from a 22.5 to a 25. The local cycle shops will have them in stock, just bring in your old jets to match them up. Check out Geezer MOTO on CZcams. He has a video about it. I took off that carb so many times, I had it down to 30 minutes. DO NOT BUY THE CHINESE KNOCKOFF CARBS ON AMAZON. I made that mistake, they are complete junk and can’t be adjusted properly. Wasted about three days of my life.

    • @jakemir

      Ground the wire at the reverse sensor under the left foot p g or cut the wire near the CDI box and ground it there. The issue is the reverse s bait fails to ground out so the CDI thinks it is in reverse.
