    Raymond has had his hab check, which is a yearly check on your motorhome or campervan to check everything is working and in order. When you buy a brand new motorhome, you have to have these checks, which you have to pay for, to keep the warranty going. We knew we had water ingress as it was coming in and running down the wall (which is shown on the previous video) but we didn't expect to find the other results, making it fail the hab check at only two years old. Hopefully the work will be done through Elddis under warranty. This video is to be continued.

    Mate it’s disgusting lt beats me how the manufacturer’s keep getting away with all this shite they keep turning out
    My new July 2019 Autotrail has had 19 faults repaired and I’m sure there will be more , what happened to quality controll at the factory and then PDI at the dealers
    It’s put me off I’ll never ever by another brand new one £60,000 for a pile of rubbish

      Believe me, we feel your pain. At least they are doing the work under warranty, but we agree that there seems to be no quality control at the factories and the dealers are just as useless. Hope yours is all OK now and that you get no more faults. Just seems no pride in British manufacturing anymore.

      Hi Paul. We bought a new Autotrail Tribute T615 in April '18. It was a shocker! It was as though because it was the base model they'd got a few blind kids from school to build it. Too many faults to list here but we were glad to get rid of it in July '19 when we bought a new Elddis 155 Supreme. Not quite as many faults but this one is damp! It's in at Bamber Bridge as I type, for the damp. Whatever you do, don't buy an Elddis. They might look nice but they're crap! What makes it worse is they boast of 'Solid' construction which is wonderful. It's light, strong and 'dry' and it's not possible for water to leak passed the joints. Really???? Trading Standards should be informed of false advertising. Preston Caravans don't care. Elddis don't care and I believe Hymer are quite a difficult company to deal with and that's from someone who has a Hymer. Lifes a bitch and then you buy - Elddis. What can be worse?

      Best way to go in our opinion. You can do the layout how you like and if you do it yourself you know it's been done properly. We got it sorted but it leaked even worse after a week. Sorted it ourselves in the end and it's been water tight since.

    Hi. I have recently started watching your vids on the elddis water ingress issues.
    We bought a 1 yr old 194. Cost for these now is £73000.!!
    Just had 3rd hab check. So much for Solid. 😂😂
    The hab guy got me to crawl under and look at the rear and side panels at the bottom edge. Bare chipboard totaly untreated or covered up.
    Water has been splashing back from tyres soaking the open wood
    Also the trim all around the 3 sides covering this has not been sealed correctly and water runs through the sealant down to the exposed wood also and soaks it.
    Result, readings of 30.on rear corners, and down one side. I could squeeze water out of it!!
    Habitation main entrance door twisted so it will not close at the top.
    No way to fix it as no adjustments.
    We can see daylight through the seals.
    Contacted elddis yesterday. Totaly fobbed off. It appears they dont approve of anyone buying a used model from a private seller and i found all dealers wont carry out work as they look after their own customers. This combined with all approved workshops within 100 miles of me also refusing to take it on based on Elddis paying a paltry hourly rate so its not worth their while blocking up their workshops.
    So,,, i must use approved repairers only, who dont or wont take on the work. So i am stuffed, a 3 yr old motorhome which the warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on.
    I will be at the motorhome show nec in sept to cause havoc on their stand.
    As for Sold build, please anyone reading this , its not a sour grapes story, i am a professional engineer and put my retirement funds into this.
    Please please think carefully if considering an elddis.
    Call a few workshops and ask which brand has the worst backup and damp issues. Some of the stories i have heard are shocking.
    When you call for warranty issues, and you will, they give you a list of repairers to call, its your task not theirs. First 3, then 6, then on and on all refusing to help. 8:52
    The bodies so rigid now they split after thousands of miles as there is no give.
    Please think again.
    Guys great site and honesty regarding elddis. Keep it up.
    Myself i am starting a crusade on their dreadfull practises. They will regret messing me about i promise you.

      Thanks for your comment. Elddis really are a disgraceful company and we thought of doing the same at the show a few years back after being fobbed off and them not giving a toss. We were going to get "DON'T BUY AN ELDDIS" t shirts to walk around in lol. We got our van from brand new and I think that was only our second hab check. We haven't had any hab checks since as it leaked even worse after the repair by the official workshop, so we just gave up with them and Karl sorted out the leaks himself. We payed for our van in one go, and it seems you're better off getting things on finance, as you can get the finance company involved. We wish we'd have known this at the time. If you're on Facebook, join the Elddis Motorhome Owners group. We have found them a really helpful and friendly bunch in the past. Good luck and we hope you kick ass at the show! Wed have joined you but Karl is having hand surgery soon and we're not sure when he will be able to drive again.

      @@roaminginraymond thanks. Honestly I am thinking of giving up forking out £250 for hab checks if elddis won't honour the warranty.
      Shame as it's a really nice unit but the damp is a real worry. I think I may have caught it in time so loads of sealing on the way.
      Great site.

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks very much. If you can get it dried out with a heater and then seal it with sikaflex, it should do the job. Karl did our roof with a couple of tubes of sikaflex and no leaks now in over two years.
      That's how we felt about the hab checks and we met a couple the other day in an Elddis who were also having issues. As you say, it's a shame as they do great layouts, but the workmanship is shoddy and the aftercare is virtually non-existant.

  • @derektaylor6713
    @derektaylor6713 Před 2 lety +2

    You have our sympathy. We've recently joined the world of damp Elddis motorhomes. We have an Elddis Supreme 155. Lovely motorhome but damp. Yes, it failed it's first damp test last August. I had an incling that the sealant on the sills and arches looked a bit tatty but didn't think much about it. Preston Caravan (run by Laurel & Hardy) just gave it us back and told us not worry, it's under warranty. They didn't reseal it! In November last year, feeling a bit concerned, we used a roll of white electrician's tape and covered the old sealant up. Over the next few months, according to my cheap damp meter, the damp dried up completely. We removed it in June because it looked a bit tatty but didn't renew it. The damp then came back with avengeance and started climbing the walls but this time in a new place which previously was dry when originally tested. Damp places are, behind the fixed bed along the back, a damp patch staring at us just above the shower tray, all along the wall behind the kitchen and the new place, all along the wall behind the side seat on the offside. Bamber Bridge Repairs contacted us with a date for repairs which they kept cancelling due to Covid and has only this Tuesday (5th Oct) gone in to be sorted. Also the rear view camera packed in, in April. I spoke to someone with a 185 with a 20reg plate and his had been packed in for the last 6 months! So one day I thought I'd undo the three screws holding the camera in place only to find loads of water. It tricked out for about an hour and wet all the tarmac on the drive. Then it worked perfectly. But whilst away it's all gone tits up and is a bad picture with gawdy colours. So it's knackered. Also whilst away the underslung water heater sprang a leak which meant the pump kept priming every 6 seconds. That isn't too bad now as it's down to one drip a minute. The fridge won't light on gas (again) and the door catch is loose and won't tighten up (again). The electric hob warning light lens had fell to bits (again) and the two brackets holding both external taps have peeling black paint. They look a real mess. Oh yes, and before I forget ---- the water gauge!!!! What a pile of crap that is. They've replaced the round dial that used to work ( a bit inaccurate) with something called a Vegas. Made in Halifax. Utter junk! It either doesn't work at all or when it does is wildley wrong. But it's the damp that really bothers us. 10 to 15 working days they recon to fix so we'll have to see. Elddis are boastful of their Solid Construction. According to their web site it's not possible for this type of construction to rain in. Is that false advertising on their behalf? Perhaps Trading Standards should be told? They should be prosecuted over false advertising. To me, the sealant is very important as we have proved but in the Motorhome Book there's a section that deals with - Care of Your Motorhome. How to clean it and other daft things but not a mention of keeping an eye on the sealant. They are in denial. They are rubbish. I'll keep you posted of the next installment. Good video by the way. Cheers.

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond  Před 2 lety +2

      We certainly know how you feel. If you go to our Welsh playlist you'll see a video about damp and this was filmed a week after the so-called repair for the water leak. Our camera had the same issue and the replacement broke within hours so we gave up and bought our own. We have had cupboards falling off, door handles falling off, plus lots of other things. The rear wheel arches leak as they aren't sealed, so get this checked as yours is a similar layout to ours. Karl resealed these himself on ours. If you watch our wild camping in the Brecon Beacons, you will see me mention about Elddis and their false advertising, and I agree, as many others do, that they should be done for false advertisement. We were going to go to the NEC show and try our best to humiliate them, but as it has been cancelled again, we can't. But they need to answer for their shoddy workmanship. The MD doesn't want to know either as we emailed him when the shower tray cracked within the 12 month warranty, but they refused to fix it saying we broke it ourselves. Utter incompetence on Elddis's behalf as when Karl sorted it out it was down to their poor workmanship again. Yes, definitely keep us posted on how you get on and we hope that you get a good fix done and it stays damp free. Good luck.

    I bought a new Elddis Marquis Majestic 125 in 2016. After 18 months of problems and rubbish aftercare from the dealership and manufacturer I got rid of it. I replaced it with a campervan from Wellhouse Leisure who's customer care is fantastic and it has been a joy to own. Elddis and Marquis I wouldn't want to dirty the end of my barge pole.

    The motorhomes are build on the same production line as the caravans. Three years ago we had a top of the range Buccaneer caravan, made by Elddis. At a year old it had 55% damp up both sidewalls for the length of the caravan and around the locker doors. The damp got in because Elddis failed to seal the bottom of the plywood sidewalls so the walls soaked up water like a sponge. There were about 40 other faults, from serious safety issues through to minor cosmetic issues. Happily we were given a full refund + 8% statutory interest. We decided at that point, no more caravans. We went to Majestic and almost signed a deal on one of their year-old Elddis built Majestic 285's, until the dealer told us as a matter of full disclosure that there had been major damp restoration carried out. We scorched the showroom floor on the way out and bought an Adria... a different league. I have said many times in groups, you buy Elddis at your peril. Their designs are terrific, but their build quality is dire. Caveat emptor.

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond  Před 3 lety +3

      We completely agree, believe me. We had an Abbey caravan at first which was OK but too small, then traded it in for a Bailey caravan which we had no issues with whatsoever, but we decided a motorhome would suit our needs more. We looked at Baileys but they didn't do a layout we liked at the time, and after a lot of looking around, decided on the 255. We still love the layout, as you say, Elddis do great designs, but annoyingly Bailey do a very similar layout now to the 255. Shame they didn't do it two years ago! We've spent so much on additions, we would be massively out of pocket now so looks like we're stuck with it. We do love the motorhome though and luckily the workshop we are using are rated very highly as they are a proper workshop, not a dealer, so hopefully it will be better than new when we get it back. But we'll let you all know! Glad you got a decent motorhome in the end. Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.

      This isn't part of motorhoming life for most of us. This is classic poor design and shoddy workmanship. UK manufactured motorhomes have a poor reputation and sadly we have experienced it first hand (twice!). Good luck with getting it sorted and keep us posted. Hang your head in shame Elddis, they clearly don't go out and test their own vehicles in the real world. When we bought our Frankia we actually spoke to the chief designer who told us he tests the vehicles himself with his family throughout the year in all weathers including subzero. And it shows.

    My Accordo is 9 years old and Elddis have never fixed any of my problems. These included: corner trims on roof loose, charging unit failed twice which cost me £250 a piece, failure of relay which is when we discovered the jumbled mass of unmarked wiring in the drivers door pillar, the piece of wood holding the heater exhausts rotted away because they used untreated wood, the table brackets fell off the first time we used it. The worst problem is the cracks in the shower tray because the flimsy plastic was incorrectly fitted. We are having that fixed at a cost to ourselves of £500! I would like to get a bigger RV but I would worry about potential problems. Never buy a new Elddis too much of a risk. Once it’s out of the showroom you are literally on your own!

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Got to agree. Our shower tray cracked at 11 months and it was their fault as the waste u bend underneath wasn't fitted in the correct position, causing pressure when you stood in the shower, making it crack around the plughole. We had to fix it ourselves. After getting the leak in the video fixed under warranty, it leaked again when we were in Wales and ended up being the whole length of the van, so it was even worse than before. We fixed it ourselves with sikaflex. We have had no hab checks since then and just fix any issues ourselves now. Elddis don't give a crap once they've had your money. So sorry that you've had all these issues too. They really are a shameful company with no care for their customers at all.

My advise is when spending money take your time and check everything before leaving the dealer and if not sure, take somebody who has a background in motorhoming because these dealers are getting away with too much, pass the buck!

    We bought an Elddis Accordo 105 Prestige new in 2018 and the only issue we've ever had was that fridge wouldn't stay on for long while it was on the gas setting. It's just had its 4th annual habitation check and is all clear regarding damp. For 2 years before we bought it (our 1st motorhome) we were members of Motorhomefun online forum asking tons of questions before committing our hard earned cash. We visited dealers all over the country, went to motorhome shows to make sure we got it right
    We've heard lots of stories of damp vans from many different manufacturers, Swift 'Kon Leekie', Autotrail 'watertrail', yes Elddis but also European makes, Benimar, Carthago and Hymer to name a few. The list is long, believe me.
    We never made the decision lightly, but what helped us choose Elddis was their 10 years warranty against water ingress. We took that as a company which has got confidence in their product. I have a background in the construction industry so I understand that things can and do go wrong.
    Maybe we have been lucky, but please, don't anyone get the impression that only Elddis are capable of making motorhomes that aren't quite up to scratch. We have no complaints about ours.
    Another thing, you only hear the horror stories about things, good news doesn't travel quite so fast! I'm sure there are far more satisfied customers than dissatisfied ones.
    I understand their pain and frustration, I'd be no different. If in doubt join the above forum as there are 10s of thousands of members, many with many decades of experience. Ask them!

      After this video, we had it fixed, and after a week, it was even worse than before, which we have on video. It was pouring in the length of the motorhome all along the drivers side, in every cupboard and even behind the bathroom mirror, it was a right mess. Maybe you were lucky, maybe we are just unlucky. And we didn't go into it lightly as we have previously had caravans so aren't simple when it comes to choosing a product. We joined forums before purchasing and have been a member of the Elddis motorhome FB group before we even purchased the motorhome. We have had more issues than just water ingress. Separating walls, dropping fridge, cracked shower tray, doors falling off to name just a few. If you watch the video before this one you will see the issues that we had before it went in for the hab check. Yes, it's not just Elddis, but it was Elddis that we bought and we will never paint them in a good light after parting with 54 grand in savings.

      We would never have another Elddis again but if yours is that age and has only had a small amount of damp, then it's probably a good one. We had so many issues with damp and many people do, but then many don't. There's a FB group called Elddis Motorhome Owners and they are a great bunch. You can ask on there for honest opinions and it might help you decide. Also see what the damp levels were, where they were and when they were? If they are recent I'd maybe steer clear. So if they are 4 or 5 years ago and it has passed all the hab checks since, then I'd say that was OK.
