The CALVI BIG-BAND's signature piece, this composition having marked history as one of the greatest, most perfect, and most successful of Thad Jones' masterpieces is based on a string of agreements called "rythm-change".
The presentation of the first part is unusually long: Four cycles made up of progressively vivid counterpoints and exchanges between the sax and brass families, first mezzo-piano muted horns to then progress in power until the apocalyptic duel.
Some of an ironic nature may see here the metaphor of a marital dispute.
A succession of unbridled piano, sax-alto, sax-baritone, trumpets and contrabass solos will follow, until a brief and dazzling resumption of the theme concludes on a strange and bitter note ...
