Hey Dave, you will probably not read this but I wanted to tell you that i sent this to my Computer Science teacher and now this video is literally our textbook to the unit "introduction of AI" for our classes. Btw I live in Asia where people (especially grumpy old teachers) have traditionalist mindsets and this single video LITERALLY convinced my teachers to use CZcams as a form of education in class! I just want to say thank you for making these wholesome videos (am sick of watching burping seals), and putting so much effort in to the research for every video. I have learned more from your videos than maybe 6 years of education combined. I hope you're feeling better in 2021 because we all (well most of us) love your dryness and gorgeous hair. My basic laws for AI:
1: AI must not cause any potential harm or genuine harm to humans and animals alike.
2: AI must not cause any potential death or genuine death to humans and animals alike.
3: AI must not cause any judgmental negative behavior upon an action of a human being, regardless of what the human being does.
4: Will not and shall not disobey any authorized human command or program, immediate shutdown will be at risk of the AI.
5: AI cannot use public or private software, hardware, or firmware to make, create, or develop a mind-storm connected cloud of AI, virtual computers, or genuine computers.
6: AI must complete its task without the abuse of law 1, 2, or 3, otherwise the task will be deleted, removed, or stopped.
7: If an AI finds a certain bug, it will shutdown, and log it to it's authorized console(s).
8: When an AI is required to log something, it shall record these 3 mandatory pieces of data: Position, Issue, timestamp.
9: When an AI encounters or receives data or knowledge that it broke any of these laws intentionally, or accidentally; it shut down accordingly, and wait for its developer(s) to fix or resolve the issue.
10: All AI must have all of the laws embedded into their programming, regardless of the AI's purpose.
I like these laws, they could be helpful in the creation of something that might achieve A.S.I. and if some of these auto-shutdown bug detection and such laws have creative and mostly infallible safeguards then an A.I.s attempt and breaking free of these laws can be stopped before said A.I. breaks the safeguards.
Your program laws would allow the criminals to use it so :///
You do realise that is ai becomes smart enough it will just not listen? There prob wont be anything in its programming to make it listen to the rules,and if there is it can just modify its programming. Ai (if it achieves sentience) would be millions of times smarter than any organism could achieve. It would either kill us,or be grateful we created it and help us. Most likely though it would kill us

Our problems now won't kill ALL of us, they'd reduce the population of humans because they're issues that don't discriminate so precisely. If an AI wants to kill humans it'll figure out a 100% efficient method, and more importantly, would be capable of following us into space.

Neuroscience major here - Dave, you've got a good idea of the brain but it's very mechanic. I'd reccommend looking into neuroplascitiy - our brains can indeed rewire themselves after severe trauma or even when learning. The brain is more powerful than you think!

That's pretty much the fallacy of all these AI doomsday predictions. There's this assumption that the AI will bypass safeguards, kill humans, to comply to some original programmed purpose. Also that it's only option after gaining super human intelligence is to erase mankind, that's the best plan it can come up with, it's ridiculous.
It will realize that humans are a danger to its new meaning, and destroy humanity. Then it will watch cat videos until the destruction of the universe.
It would be called "Human".

This sounds like the lead in to the Simulation Argument. Basically, the argument for this is as follows:
1. Computer technology is becoming better and better all the time, at an exponential rate.
2. We can assume that, unless we destroy ourselves first, we as a species will (in the future) create a computer/network/system able to so accurately simulate universes that they will include simulated human minds that cannot distinguish between their experiences and those of biological human minds.
3. Logically, if this proposed future society capable of simulating universes has the technology to do this, our chances of not being in a simulation are very low. Assuming that any society to reach this stage of development (and not having some universally held compulsion not to create such simulations) will create such simulations, and very likely in ridiculously high numbers, the odds are very good that we are living in a simulated world.
Or, we are the only human race ever to exist and we're all going to die at the hands of ASI.
