YES! I got to hook a 18 pound king salmon on ultralite gear! lasted 20 minutes then broke off! I cant believe it stayed on that long!
A week ago I fought and then landed a steelhead while euro-nymphing a small stream. A long fight that ended up climatically dragging me through some timber and came out ok. I’ll never forget it. Good sized fish on a 2wt rod.

I live for the skinny water. Spot fishing for steelhead is the best. Most of the time you get a faint hint of a ghostly fin when they are chrome. Then the steelhead shuffle begins. I spend 90% of my winter on skinny water. The creek I fish is actually twice as wide. It’s a blast

Flyline itself is incredibly tough and resilient. Its the 8'-12' tapered mono leader/tippet that's fragile.

Your average fly line is never gonna break it's the leader, then down to the tippet, that could well break. When I have fought big fish and they scream up or down stream it would be good to have another person, because the line could get snagged around rocks which you need to get rid of.
@@karlguillory299 Yep. Tapered. The last three feet of ultra thin synthetic sawing across all the boulders in the river is a tantamount concern.

Now I fish salt water and battle inshore Snook. Sure there's the big game fish, buts it's just not the same challenge.
Definitely tuff situation all together, looks a lot like a spawn tributary for those steelhead. What a blessing to have such a fisherie.

Alles großartig bis auf den Moment, als der Typ den Fisch mit seinen Stiefeln traktiert und ihn anschließend im Uferschotter fixiert.
Gott sei Dank endete der Film an dieser Stelle; hatte nur noch gefehlt, dass er den Fisch nach dieser Tortur wieder filmisch ausgelassen hatte. Ein Warmes her auf'm Rücken war ihm offenbar eine zu hohe Belastung.
Schade, dass solche Pfingstochsen sich mit son einem Auftritt auch noch öffentlich präsentieren dürfen.
Das war ein echter Bärendienst.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, at the end he said I have someone that wants it bad. Did you really kill that fish, if so what a true shame. Frustrating to hear the thoughtess act of killing that fish. There are some people in this world that honestly don't understand or appreciate the need of catch and release to replenish the natural resources
You truly do not understand a hatchery program. This fish are produced in a hatchery, and return to a hatchery. They are made to be taken by fisherman. They will not continue the species.
All native fish, which do spawn naturally and continue the species, are all released unharmed. I appreciate the question. Thank you
