Honestly, there is an interesting line they could have persued with this version of Jean calling Yu 'soft'. It's not equating 'strength' and 'resiliance' to a willingness to kill, but being able to keep yourself in check and do the job. Yu gave into his personal pain and grief (which was, y'know, f***ing vast so understandable), and killed their only lead when he could have been taken alive for questioning. (Side note it's kind of weird that manga Jean kills Fatman... pretty much to kill him. Yu isn't being soft in saying 'lets get intel from the one who is still alive.')
But overall that also sets up room for growth and choices. Are you the terrifified and angry child left in the jungle, or are you the Spriggan doing what it takes to keep the world from suffering that same fate? Asking is Yu truly ready to do this job if he's going to lose his mind when his pain resurfaces?

    O M G …
That connection to the release date … WOW. That makes at least three features from Japan that got messed up because of that September Morning.
The other two are Metropolis & Spider-Man (SONY)
I fell in love with Spriggan because of my longtime interest in the “Ancient World” material. Born in ‘69, my dad raised me on the stuff- with Raiders & BattleStar Galactica in support. Never read the manga, tho.

I'll never understand why people think that streaming services are an alternative to physical media. If anything, streaming services are just like broadcast, and cable channels. They only keep movies, and TV shows on the air for A certain length of time depending of who owns said media, or when the contract is up, and once it's gone from the schedule, it's gone for however long it stays gone until the network decides to bring it back, or if another network picks it up. With physical media, YOU own it, and YOU can watch it whenever you want. So these big companies need to realize that shows airing exclusively on streaming services should get physical release so that people who love said shows can buy them if they don't want to invest their time, or money on streaming services because who knows how long it may stay in 'Netflix Prison'. I'd like to say it holds true for digital media, but I've heard stories of certain platforms remove movies, and shows due to licenses not being renewed on them, forcing you to buy them again. So yeah, buy physical media, or sail the high seas.

I remember watching the movie like a year before netflix announced the reboot. And I went through the same thought process like... Why do people doesn't talk about this movie?... Then when I saw the netflix reboot I got kinda hyped but after watching chapter one I was pretty disappointed like... Same story with GITS 2045 and I'm not daring giving Trigun stampede a try cause the original is my favourite show ever and I don't want that name to become bittersweet in my memory.
The thing is... Old Spriggan is really cool if you didn't know about it but it can't stand next to the "big ones" so yeah... If I had to say something is, don't waste your time watching bad remakes, there are a lot of hidden cool stuff to watch. Hopefully that will be enough to make a change in this stupid tendency

Side rant- quite a few people I know don't have reliable enough access for streaming, so unless it is released on physical media, they ain't seeing it.
Especially now, when a DVD release is pennies on the dollar, that streaming services would cut themselves off from a possible revenue stream because it might compete with a streaming service that is losing money kinda marks the stupidity of the age.

Spriggan was an odd little movie when it came out. It was released in the US by ADV around 2001/02 and Viz released the manga a little earlier. With only 3 Volumes at the time, left little material to research and your only left with the movie. Funny how the original storyline is based on reality. Pre-Great Flood civilizations were highly advanced, more so in many ways than we are now (though a lot of tech we are familiar with today was also common back then as well) considering their ability to soften and mold stone, create concrete that can last millions of years, build immensely large stone structures with sound lift technology, move around in powerful flying craft called Vimanas, etc. There was also a worldwide nuclear war that obliterated a large amount of the ancient sites, leaving vitrified sand and burnt/melted stone (sites in Indonesia that are millions of years old are still highly radioactive, leading to cancer and birth defeats for those living there). Watch the excellent "Mystery History" channel here on YT for more on these subjects, as well as Ancient Architects. They, and others, do a great job on covering the hidden history modern academia oddly wants the world to ignore. So it seems the creators of "Spriggan" really wanted to convey an aspect of this ancient knowledge in their show. Even OOPARTS (Out-of-Place Artifacts) the world over in real life show how highly advanced our pre-Great Flood ancestors were. It's a shame the movie's storyline was a mess. Totally agree the animation is top notch.

If the anime had been more faithful to the story, it would have been downright prescient (at least as far as American viewers are concerned, no doubt everyone outside of the US would have just been "well yeah, duh"). One looks like a chinese release and it's a paperback and the other looks like a regular OVA release with not much information. Surprisingly. The Chinese release had better quality. The other seemed to be a Rip from another source and it lost a bit of quality.
Watched it and was confused on why I have never heard of it or how it didn't become a bigger cult classic. The animation alone should've given that status, but nah.

Hardest part of an Anime movie based on a long running Manga, what sort of chapters do you adapt?
If someone asked me to do a Movie of Love Hina manga.
I would do the first film (assuming that I am only able to do just 1st film because sequels are not guaranteed until success)
I would focus on adapting the first two volumes of the Love Hina manga.
Focus on characters, getting Keitaro mending his bad first impressions with each female character into something positive.
Ending the film with that scene on New Years before the Exams where Keitaro thinks he has failed the prelim exams until he realized that he succeeded to the next round.
Leaving up for a possibility of a sequel film being the 3rd volume manga adaptation for the second film.

Seriously cannot shout this loud enough. I've been saying this for AT LEAST 4-5 years now.
As for spriggan... It was BORING... I honestly do not remember it, because it was very dull and my girlfriend at the time was more interesting.

My problem with this movie is the character design/Art. It’s fairly generic and uninspiring.. it also duels between the realistic and the Stylized in Simeón conflicting ways, bringing out a terrible sense of uncanny valley.. This is something Films like Akira or Ninja scroll did not suffer of.

Infamous anime only ending? Anime original endings are just bad? Well well well, looks like it's a big fat dislike from me.
