    at 90%, today we will have 6 episodes of Spriggan, so, 6 missions. ( by the characters appeared in the trailers and in the art, i can say that are Fire Serpents, Noah's Ark, the Berserker, the Crystal Skull, the No Return Forest and the Phantom island ). It's... almost a Third of the missions of the manga. The remaining ones are The Obsidian Mask, the Soma, the Reverse Babel Tower, the Holy Grail, the stone map the brain, the city in the sky, the Ark of the Convenant, the God Yama, and the last Missions, that took 2 manga volumes alone, the Cosmos Child Soldiers, the Return of the Fire Serpents and the battle for South Pole. Over 10 episodes are left. IF they want to cover them all, they could split everything in other two 6 episodes seasons.

    • @CurrentKick
      @CurrentKick  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you! I haven't been able to find a whole list of missions, so this is awesome info. I really hope it's good and that they cover everything. I'm so happy that the episodes are 45 minutes and not 22.

      @@CurrentKick here in Italy they printed the whole Manga in 11 volumes in 2001, i still luckly have them all and i'm quite sure about the first 6 episodes, the Characters are those . As you pointed, the Holy Grail episode is quite... controversial and probably won't be covered by the anime. But even the Reverse Babel Tower is heavy, trust me.

      If you count that the opening have Tea Flatte (upper right in the initial scene) they are already gearing up for more and this is just the first batch of episodes. They also set up the Cosmos storyline with the red eyes thing. Given the fact that they are adapting even chapters that are not too meaningful in the great scheme of things my guess is that we are going to see a full adaptation split in various cours.

      The Obsidian Mask in Vol 1 & 2 is the longest one so that would need to be 2 eps. The epilogue in college could be tacked on in a shortened form, just like the prequel chapter was, in the final ep. So 11 more at the minimum.

    My explanation of Spriggan to people has always been if The X Files was taken seriously and developed a 007 program with Indiana Jones. My only issue is why Yu Ominae is a kid? Having a young soldier in a physically taxing job makes a lot of sense. However, I feel like they should have made him an orphan adopted by the government for this specific task. Is he just in school for socialization?

    • @CurrentKick
      @CurrentKick  Před 2 lety +3

      I'm curious if the rest of the manga goes over why he's in school. I'm leaning towards, "because it's shonen, so now he's relatable to teens."

    The ancient relics theme is obviously influenced by the ancient aliens theory that was developed by authors like Erich Von Däniken. In the Netflix series a scientist makes a direct reference to extraterrestrial technology.

    • @CurrentKick
      @CurrentKick  Před 2 lety +1

      He did Chariots of the Gods, right?
      What's interesting is that in the manga, they say "ancient civilization" and "Once, a great and prosperous civilization existed upon this earth." but I don't remember seeing "alien". I did catch that in the anime. We only have a few volumes in English so far, so I wonder if that was a hint at what's to come.

      @wimvanderstraeten6521 Před 2 lety +2

      @@CurrentKick I've read Chariots of the Gods (it's actually surprisingly short). It's true that the ancient civilization isn't explicitly identified as extraterrestrial, but it's clearly implied that it didn't originate on this planet, so I think it's safe to assume it's alien.

    I find Japan's views of America interesting, particularaly in their media over time. Spriggan feels like it's very much riding a post WW2 view of America. Beyond America being reoccurring bad guys, two fairly significant reoccuring villains across the series media formats are named after the atomic bombs dropped on Japan. It feels like the writer had that war on the brain, and inevitably felt the need to justify Japan's stance; hence the apologist explanation. To me, it just feels like a part of what the series is saying. Other than that it's a fun action romp.

    The suit isn't what makes him special. He's an orphan that was kidnapped, experimented on giving him heightened reflexes, agility, and brainwashed. He was turned into a killing machine against his will by the Americans. He's basically a former child soldier. Even without the suit he is extremely dangerous, especially when he zones out and his former brainwashing takes over. His whole thing is that he doesn't want to be the killing machine they turned him into. Appearances and references to Project Cosmos that turned him into that were removed from the Striker books.
    Also, the girl that meets Hitler isn't an ARCAM agent but a tomb raider. She's constantly at odds with Yu.

    The Netflix dub is actually really good and this is probably the most fun I've had watching a Netflix anime series in a long time. I could of watched 12 of 24 episodes of that easily. Makes me wish they'd do a reboot of techi muyo or shadow skills. Great stories and some cool ideas, the anti America and hate for other countries kind of let you know when the source material was written but 8 of 10 review in my opinion

    The 1998 anime is much better than the Netflix show. The lead character is super skinny even with power armor on. They constantly use wooden moving cgi figures, and the angles they use (especially for dialogue) are very flat and uninteresting. There really isn't much depth in the Netflix show either. We didn't even get an introduction to the armored suit. He just already has it.

    Loved the Spriggan movie I watched it for the first time in 2002 and wanted more Spriggan! I eventually found and played the Spriggan Japanese video game in 2003 from the now famous developer FromSoftware and loved it. I read the Manga and enjoyed it but there are definitely anti American sentiments in it. I also recently watched the new Netflix series I was very excited I thought it was going to be like the original movie.......man was I wrong. The Netflix series is good in many ways I enjoyed much of it but, it has serious anti American or anti western themes I was surprised how blatant the Netflix series was with this. There is a major difference in seeing and hearing the anti American views than reading them in the Manga. I decided to rewatch the original Spriggan movie and although yes it's villains where American it didn't give you feeling that you should hate them for it and that all Americans are evil and only Japanese and eastern people have skills or are worthwhile people. If you don't agree with me that's fine but I challenge you to rewatch the Netflix Spriggan series and pay attention to the dialog across the 6 episodes I think you will see what I am talking about. Also I don't care or mind if someone doesn't like my country that's totally up to you and there is nothing wrong with having an opinion like that it's your individual choice and you should always be allowed to have that. But, what I don't like and will never accept is judging or looking down on other people based on where they're from, their culture, their physical appearance, or holding an entire group of people accountable for the past mistakes or decisions they never had a choice in.

    Bc ots a loaded topic and ppl get paranoid pretty fast that they dont wanna sympathize with this.
    But tbh idk this hitler storyline has ANY deeper meaning.
    I just think that the writer just unloaded and got full mind fuck on this.
    I think the creator is just very creative and thats what hes utilizing here.
    The majority of creative ppl do this btw.
    Maybe a cliche example, but think about how fucked up rick and morty is.
    I mean theres an abraham linclor, but its satire so everyone just accepts the fuck up.
